Discuss the current guidelines and management of intracranial hypertension. Examine the indications for emergent neurosurgery and neurosurgical input in the intensive care unit. Discuss the essentials in patient care needed for the optimal transport of the brain-injured child. Recognize and evaluate a victim of abusive head trauma. Review the use of checklists to increase safety and resources currently available. Describe the details and challenges of post-resuscitative care. Contrast old and new modalities available for neuropsychological rehabilitation of the brain-injured child. Cancellations will be handled in accordance with the Hotel s general policy. Currently a refund is given if the reservation is cancelled at least five days before arrival. All reservations must be for an active registration to the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Conference. Any reservation that remains unaccompanied by an active conference registration will be subject to cancellation. Each paid conference registrant may reserve one guestroom. Hawai i is no different from the rest of the nation in that the leading cause of death in children and adolescents is from trauma-related injury. Physicians and staff at both hospitals work closely together to provide expert care for these children. Being an island state presents unique challenges with rural injury and distant transfers. Our cooperative efforts are reflected in our program committee. Faculty from Hawai i and the mainland will cover a variety of topics from acute neurosurgical through rehabilitation of the injured child. We welcome all healthcare professionals working with this patient population from pre-hospital to acute care to post discharge and rehabilitation.
