Year-n-year vacancy grwth als shws signs f a slwdwn, as grwth rates hit their lwest ebb since December After a strng hiring market in Q4 20, the number f available rles this mnth fell 128,572 shrt f the recruitment peak seen just 4 mnths ag in Nvember. Cmpetitin fr jbs decreased marginally, drpping t 0.59 jbseekers per vacancy frm last mnth s high f 0.61 claimants per advertised rle, but still remains higher than expected, based n 20 trends. Advertised salaries cntinue t fall year-n-year Despite sme small imprvements in advertised pay in recent mnths, Britain s emplyers remain reticent t return advertised salaries t 20 levels, with published pay grades dwn 2.4% this mnth, cmpared t ruary 20. Next mnth s natinal living wage is set t redefine the UK s jb landscape, particularly fr lw paid wrkers. It culd be a real turning pint and a lng deserved bst in the battle against rising living csts. But fr emplyers, the natinal living wage equals a higher wage bill at the same time that cmpulsry wrkplace pensins are als rlling ut. Sme cmpanies may nt find it easy t adapt t these new initiaives. Cmpared t six mnths ag, eight ut f ten regins in the UK saw falls in advertised vacancies in ruary 2016, with rles in the Suth East falling 8.8%, thse in the Suth West falling 7.2% and the East falling 5.1% since September 20. Only in Lndn, Wales and Yrkshire did vacancy cunt increase cmpared t six mnths ag. Advertised salaries fell in all but ne UK regin. Sctland, still suffering frm the aftereffects f the Scttish Referendum, saw the steepest declines, drpping 4.6% cmpared with last year, fllwed by Lndn and the Nrth East with average salaries dwn 3.5%. 3
