2 2012 Westside Unity Day 1 Intrductin This Dcument Purpse This is a histrical recrd f the steps that were taken by a subcmmittee that was created t put tgether the annual Narctics Annymus Westside Area Unity Day event. This dcument intends t serve as a guide fr future subcmmittees that will be planning the annual Narctics Annymus Westside Area Unity day. Narctics Annymus (NA) NA is a nnprfit rganizatin whse members, referred t as addicts, practice cmplete abstinence frm all mind and md altering substances including alchl. There is nly ne requirement fr membership, the desire t stp using. 1 The Westside Area Service Cmmittee The Westside Area Service Cmmittee f NA is ne f the many area Service Cmmittees under the NA service structure. The Westside Area Service Cmmittee f NA encmpasses NA grups in West Ls Angeles. These NA grups are lcated in Culver City, Santa Mnica, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice, Chevit Hills, Inglewd, Westchester as well as ne meeting n the beach in Santa Mnica. The Unity Day Sub Cmmittee The Unity Day Sub Cmmittee is created t put tgether the 2012 NA Westside Area Unity day. Reginal Flyers These flyers get circulated in all areas in the Suthern Califrnia Regin except fr the Westside Area. Usually cpies are printed fr the regin. These flyers g t the Suthern Califrnia Reginal Service Cmmittee activities meeting fr distributin. T distribute flyers at the reginal level, specific guidelines need t be met, like using the right NA lg, including a map, and having tw cntact numbers n the flyer. Area Flyers These flyers get circulated nly inside the Westside Area. They d nt have t meet the same guidelines as the reginal flyers. Usually, between 200 and 500 flyers are printed. The subcmmittee agreed t sht fr printing abut 7500 flyers. March 4, nd Unity Day Subcmmittee April 15, rd Unity Day Subcmmittee Venue: The subcmmittee is still in the prcess f finding a venue at this pint. Event Ideas: Event ideas were presented by meeting participants and a tentative schedule was created 5. 10 2012 Westside Unity Day 9 Suggestins The fllwing are suggestins t future subcmmittees based n the experience f the 2012 Unity day subcmmittee. Wrking jintly with ther areas makes fr a mre successful Unity Day i.e. having ther areas hst meetings, prviding speakers and running the wrkshps. Try and pick a date fr the event as early as sn as pssible. This subcmmittee gt a date (August 4, 2012) 9 mnths befre the event. A trusted servant will need t g t the reginal activities meeting, check the reginal calendar and secure a date that des nt cnflict with ther reginal activities. Als, present the date t the Westside area as early as pssible. Pick a Venue fr the event as early as pssible. Get started n flyers as sn as pssible. This subcmmittee recmmends presenting the flyers t area and regin at least three mnths befre the event. As sn as flyers are apprved and printed, please ntify Public Infrmatin (PI) s they can put the flyers n Check well in advance with any Westside area NA meetings n the day f that event. Discuss with them abut ging dark fr that day. Try and wrk with them s they can be accmmdating. Fr example, as a thank yu gesture, this subcmmittee paid the ne mnth s rent fr ne f the meetings that had t g dark because f the event. Prvide adequate sund system r any ther technlgy. The main speaker fr this event culd nt be heard by the majrity f addicts in the back due t pr sund system. The prjected shift fr vlunteers did nt need t be fllwed as there were plenty f vlunteers thrughut the day due t wrd being spread abut the need fr vlunteers. Hwever, this subcmmittee still recmmends preparing a vlunteer shift schedule in case there is shrtage f vlunteers.
