4 Recruiting Overview The university cnsists f a wide range f staff emplyees wh help make up the diverse cmmunity within the university divisins. Their gal is t assist and supprt the Faculty and Students t becme cmpetitive and successful in reaching the university gals. The Human Resurces department thrugh its Emplyment sectin and Equity and Access department strive t ensure Texas State University recruits and retains, nly the best, and diverse staff. This is derived by assisting the search cmmittee members identify and select nly the best, diverse applicants. This is achieved by creating multiple resurces and guidelines t help make the selectin successful. 4

5 Recruitment Wrkflw S T E P 1 Department receives apprval frm divisin VP t fill this vacancy S T E P 2 Department creates the requisitin t fill the vacancy using the electrnic applicatin system S T E P 3 Advertisements surces are nted n the requisitin and nce jb is psted HR will place the ads unless it is specialty membership ads. Department will handle thse ads. S T E P 4 Hiring matrix is created utilizing the required and preferred qualificatins frm the actual jb psting. S T E P 5 Search Cmmittee meets t scre each applicant accrdingly. This shws the Search Cmmittee wh the high scring applicants are fr Interviewing. S T E P 6 Cmmittee interviews (Skype r face-t-face). All initial interviews must be handled the same way. Candidates invited fr n-campus interviews must cmplete the Criminal Backgrund frm t send t HR. S T E P 7 Cmmittee selects final candidate and alternate (if there is ne). Requisitin status changed n applicants. The Rec fr Hire is cmpleted and sent t Equity & Access fr review and apprval. S T E P 8 Equity & Access sends requisitin t HR emplyment fr final apprval. If Criminal Backgrund is cmplete the department will be ntified f apprval t make jb ffer. S T E P 9 Once ffer is accepted department sends I-9 electrnically t have applicant cmplete Sectin 1. On first day department cmpletes Sectin 2 and uplads supprt dcuments. Applicant attends NEW n first day f emplyment. 5

6 Search Cmmittee A search cmmittee is a very imprtant part f an effective staff search prcess. The cmmittee is made up f ne r mre individuals wh knw and understand the jb requirements and preferred requirements f a psitin and are willing t assure the selected applicant has the qualificatins t prmte the missin and gals f the department and the university. When selecting the cmmittee it is recmmended there be a diverse grup f members reviewing all applicant dcuments s as t help get the mst qualified individual fr the psitin. Jb Descriptin The jb descriptin shuld utline the psitin taking int cnsideratin the department s needs. Be sure required qualificatins d nt limit the pl f applicants by being t explicit as sme descriptins culd unintentinally exclude wmen r minrity candidates. 6
