We are excited to invite you to the fifth official Highlights of ASH, which is the only Highlights meeting that is sponsored by the American Society of Hematology. In 2010, Highlights of ASH will occur in six locations: Toronto; San Antonio; Atlanta; Washington, DC; Marina del Rey; and San Francisco. These exceptional educational opportunities will feature leading hematology experts who will present unbiased analysis from the 51st ASH Annual Meeting abstracts and sessions, including evolving therapies, the latest treatment options, and their clinical applications. ASH is very pleased to sponsor the six Highlights of ASH meetings in partnership with the following societies: Association of Northern California Oncologists (ANCO),Canadian Hematology Society (CHS), Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO), La Agrupación Mexicana para el Estudio de la Hematologia (AMEH), Maryland/DC Society of Clinical Oncology (MDSCO), Medical Oncology Association of Southern California (MOASC),Texas Society of Medical Oncology (TSMO), and the Virginia Association of Hematologists and Oncologists (VAHO). The program format is designed to allow practitioners, fellows, academicians, and allied health professionals to discuss some of the most rapidly evolving developments in the field with experts as well as colleagues. The limited attendance, panel discussions, lunches, and Breakfast with the Experts will provide numerous opportunities for attendees to discuss real patient cases with leaders in the field, network with colleagues, and gain knowledge that can affect practice strategies. 4 Continuing Medical Education The American Society of Hematology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Society of Hematology designates this educational activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The American Medical Association has determined that physicians not licensed in the U.S. who participate in this CME activity are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 credit.

5 Educational Objectives This Highlights of ASH program is based on a selection of abstracts presented at the 51st ASH Annual Meeting that are of greatest interest to practitioners. The 2010 program focuses on pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of common malignant and benign hematologic disorders, including acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma, thrombotic disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative disorders. At the completion of the program, attendees will be able to: Characterize new insights into the biology of acute leukemia; summarize current assessments of potential new agents for treatment of acute myeloid leukemia. Better understand the etiology of MDS and the new agents available to treat MDS. Summarize updates on management of CML, including monitoring and relapsed/refractory disease; summarize new information on the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of Ph-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms. Describe the role of new specific treatments for CLL, including immunomodulatory agents, purine analogues, monoclonal antibodies, immunotherapeutics, and other newly tested agents. Explore newer insights into molecular biology of B-cell neoplasms; examine new data on effectiveness and toxicity of targeted agents for B-cell lymphomas. Understand updated data on effectiveness of standard and experimental treatments for Hodgkin lymphoma; describe the best integration of the twin goals of effective treatment and minimization of toxicity for Hodgkin lymphoma. Describe new insights into the basic abnormalities of hemostasis that lead to abnormal clotting. Review newly available information about the role, effectiveness, and complications of newer treatments for ITP. Summarize updated information about newer anti-thrombotic agents; describe new insights into management of complex situations in which abnormal thrombosis occurs. Summarize updated information about basic mechanisms of iron absorption and utilization; understand new information about classification of anemic states. Summarize the latest results from major studies of new approaches to myeloma treatment; examine the evidence justifying new approaches to management of newly diagnosed and relapsed myeloma. Summarize updated information on new aspects of management of patients during high-dose chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT); summarize information on new insights into the appropriate integration of HSCT into the management of lymphoid and myeloid malignancies.
