6 AACS-Creating Pathways To Learning The AACS believes it is important to incorporate several different learning methods to complete the educational process. Certainly, didactic lectures with questions and answers, such as those found during general sessions, are important. The sharing of experiences from colleagues is invaluable, but this is not sufficient for a total learning experience. Concentrated learning sessions provided in our instruction courses are another very important facet of the process, allowing individuals quality time with one or more experts. No surgical learning process however, is complete without a workshop setting, incorporating focused lectures with demonstrations, and if possible either simulated or actual hands-on experience. Whether it is an established technique or one that is still unfolding, the learning process must be thorough and multifaceted. The AACS urges each surgeon to be responsible for seeking out a complete pathway to training, prior to incorporating any technique into his or her practice. Patient safety and satisfaction can only be achieved through a commitment to comprehensive physician education and learning. 7 Meeting Policies MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is to advance the specialty of cosmetic surgery and quality patient care. The AACS is committed to advancing the specialty of cosmetic surgery and improving quality patient care through the provision of high-quality continuing medical education (CME) to our members. The overall goal of the AACS CME program is to provide activities that will address the professional practice gaps of our physician learners by facilitating change in participants competence and performance. LEARNING OBJECTIVE The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery strives to assist cosmetic surgeons and patients in maximizing the efficacy and safety of cosmetic surgery. At the completion of this workshop, participants should be able to demonstrate a greater understanding of the breast, facial rejuvenation, and abdominal cosmetic surgery procedures highlighted during the course; identify strategies for patient evaluation and pre- and post-operative care; and identify strategies for the prevention and management of complications. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is appropriate for cosmetic surgeons of all skill levels. The ideal meeting participant will have an active interest in learning about breast, facial, and abdominal cosmetic surgery procedures and a personal commitment to patient safety and quality patient care. NEEDS ASSESSMENT Today s cosmetic surgeon is faced with rapidly evolving technological advances and patient requests for state-ofthe-art surgical solutions. Safety concerns about the new techniques make it imperative that the surgeon is well informed on the latest scientific developments in all areas of cosmetic surgery. Fundamental procedures, such as those highlighted in this workshop, constantly evolve. Surgeons must have updated information and skills to effectively serve patients in today s society, and this course will facilitate that learning. PHYSICIAN COMPETENCIES The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) physician competencies addressed in the educational sessions of this workshop include medical knowledge, professionalism, patient care, and interpersonal and communication skills. CME STATEMENT The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery designates this live activity for a maximum of 27.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The CME Evaluation will be distributed via after the meeting. Upon completion of the evaluation, CME Certificates will be distributed one month from the date of the meeting. However, this does not imply that the participant has achieved proficiency with the procedures
