2 Other ways to donate support, or volunteer United Way of Norman relies on public support and accepts donations several ways, including through workplace campaigns using payroll deduction, with online giving via our website or by mail to our office address. In-kind donations are always appreciated and may be arranged by calling the United Way of Norman office at Volunteering with United Way of Norman impacts the entire community is fun and gratifying. Opportunities include serving on an Impact Council, (Education, Financial Stability, Health or Independence), helping with the annual community campaign by serving on the Campaign Cabinet, being a loaned executive, helping with Celebrity Sing, or helping with one of our community initiatives such as Destination Graduation, Financial Alliance of Norman or the disability Coalition; volunteering for the annual Day of Caring; or assisting with the Teen Advisors of Norman, 4-REAL Youth Leadership or Stuff the Bus. Statements Mission United Way of Norman unites and strengthens our community by empowering each person to change lives. Background United Way of Norman was established in 1957 as a community fundraising and distribution organization. We currently invest in 28 local nonprofit organizations providing 41 programs. In addition, we convene community members who collaboratively address issues in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health and Independence. Impact United Way of Norman focuses on Education (helping children & youth achieve their potential), Financial Stability (promoting financial education & independence among working families), Health (improving youth and adult health) and Independence (improving independence and quality of life for seniors & persons with disabilities). Needs United Way of Norman's most pressing needs are: 1. To increase the individual and corporate support for the annual campaign so that we are more adequately able to provide funding for the community's most urgentlyneeded programs and services. 2. To surpass the campaign goal of $1.9 million to help fund the additional requests from the 28 funded partner agencies. 3. To better utilize the variety of traditional and social media platforms for communicating to the United Way of Norman stakeholders and increasing giving. 4. Communicate better the impact that the United Way of Norman and the funded agencies make in the lives of area residents. The community should hear from UWN beyond just our fundraising needs. 5. Communicate better that the United Way of Norman serves most of Cleveland County, not just the City of Norman. CEO/Executive Director Statement The United Way of Norman is important to the community in that we engage local leaders in a process to assess, prioritize and fund programs to address the human needs in the community. Through this engagement, we are able to coordinate resources from our funded partner agencies in ways that ensure the most pressing needs are met, without duplication. Local leaders make all funding decisions, and 99% of every dollar remains in our community. By focusing on results that can be measured, we are able to determine if our efforts are having an impact. There will never be enough funds to simply provide money to "good organizations doing good things." We focus on targeted and unduplicated efforts. The assessment of needs, the vetting of agencies and the fundraising takes a tremendous number of community volunteers, resulting in an effort that results in local people helping local people.
