2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission We provide strong financial and program resources to Chesterfield County Public Schools through community and business partnerships, creating an equitable educational environment for all students which will ensure a constantly improving, world-class, public school system. Background The Chesterfield Public Education Foundation was founded in It is now known as the Chesterfield Education Foundation (CEF). The foundation was created by community and business leaders who recognized that public funds alone cannot adequately support ambitious efforts to advance student achievement in Chesterfield County schools. Through the generosity of local individuals and businesses, the foundation provides significant financial support and volunteer services to various programs in the schools. Over the years, this support has included innovative academic programs, student scholarships, student mentoring, arts programs, and teacher recognition. CEF has aligned its mission and activities to support the goals and priorities of the Chesterfield County Schools "Design for Excellence 2020" plan. By aligning with CCPS priorities, CEF strives to fulfill its vision to help every child have access to the tools and support they need in school to reach their full potential. Impact Since its inception in 1989, the Foundation has brought new and exciting opportunities into Chesterfield County Public Schools through the generosity of Chesterfield County Public Schools alumni, parents and businesses. Some of our major programs and accomplishments: The MEGA Mentors program provides mentoring and other support to enhance student success. More than 150 volunteers provide mentoring, tutoring, and experiential activities for over 500 students in seven Chesterfield County Schools. MCD Awards for Initiative and Innovation in Educational Practices provides support for new instructional strategies. Since its inception, the MCD program has awarded more than $330,000 for more than 80 innovative education projects. All Chesterfield County Public Schools employees are invited to submit their ideas on a new way to teach a concept, to solve a problem, to fulfill a need, or to inspire students. Awards are announced every spring. Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating students. These scholarships are funded through endowments as well as annual contributions by business and individuals in the community. The foundation's annual scholarship awards range from $15,000 to $20,000 annually. CEF's Bravo! Awards is an annual celebration of the outstanding achievements of Chesterfield County Public Schools alumni. Held each vember, the Bravo! Awards Dinner has come to be known as an inspiring evening, offering an opportunity to hear the honorees share their personal stories of how the Chesterfield Schools launched them on their path to success. The award recipients also spend time in the schools sharing their life experiences and motivating students to strive for success. The foundation's strategic priorities for the future include a focus on students, teachers, and technology. We plan to expand the presence of MEGA Mentors to other schools, increase our financial base in order to increase innovation in education, provide internet access for all students, and develop programs to support STEM educational opportunities. 2
3 Needs The foundation needs to grow its asset base in order to better support a large school system with 63 schools and more than 59,000 students. We are actively seeking endowed and annual contributions to support our on-going programs such as MEGA Mentors, MCD Awards for Innovation in Education, and scholarships, as well as new programs in STEM and the arts. We are also looking for volunteers to mentor students, so that we can expand our highly recognized MEGA Mentors program to other schools in the county. And, we are looking for volunteers from a broad spectrum of our community, to serve on our board and committees. Come join us! CEO/Executive Director Statement CEF is structured to provide support for students and teachers in those areas where the need is the greatest. As the demographics of Chesterfield County have changed dramatically during the last 10 years, the foundation has shifted our outreach to address new needs as they arise. Board Chair Statement The passion of this board is to give all students the opportunities they need to succeed in life beyond classroom instruction, to expand their horizons by offering new experiences through innovative programs.
