2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission To offer and provide high school and college-age students the opportunity to help the less fortunate by paying for and assembling wheelchair ramps for those people who are in need and have qualified for financial assistance. Background We empower financially qualified elderly and disabled individuals in our communities by giving them a safe means in and out of their homes as we develop compassionate young adults and promote civic engagement and inter-generational communication. Three Richmond area high school students created Ramp Access Made Possible by Students, or R.A.M.P.S. in It began as a school challenge to contribute to their community through charitable projects. Since then, over 1000 students from 24 high schools and colleges have assembled 360 wheelchair ramps for elderly and disabled individuals who could not safely move in and out of their homes. Impact By the close of 2017, 1100 RAMPS student volunteers from 24 area high schools and colleges assembled 360 wheelchair ramps for the elderly and disabled in Central Virginia with almost community service hours. Our information reflects 98% of our clients were concerned about getting out of their homes in case of fire. 100% of our clients prefer to "age in place", in a neighborhood they know, where they may visit friends, neighbors and other local social support organizations. This greatly improves quality of life for our less fortunate, frail elderly or disabled neighbors in our community. Needs 1.Monetary donations allow us to purchase modular wheelchair materials. The average ramp costs $3, We are looking for local businesses to partner with and support our student volunteers. Your involvement helps shape tomorrow's leaders, while supporting our senior and disabled neighbors. Additionally, if you are looking for a team-building opportunity for your staff, please contact us regarding a "Build Day". 3. We are looking for a steady phone volunteer to handle our monthly client contact. Volunteers will be trained appropriately. 4. New 1/2 inch ratchet wrenches for the students (40 requested), a new hammerdrill and power drills would also be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration of our requests. CEO/Executive Director Statement R.A.M.P.S. is an innovative organization which ties together two distinct groups through community service. Our high school and college students gain valuable skills as they run meetings at school, conduct presentations with local businesses, raise funds, and build ramps. Our ramp recipients receive a safely built wheelchair ramp, and enjoy their intergenerational conversations with our devoted volunteers. We support our students as they improve our communities and raise awareness of less fortunate neighbors in our area. 4 Programs Programs Modular Wheelchair Ramp Assembly Description High school and college-age students raise money to purchase the modular wheelchair ramp materials. The students also donate their time to assemble the ramp for the financially-qualified elderly and disabled residents of the Greater Richmond Community. Budget $0.00 Long term Success Individuals receiving ramps immediately have a safe means of getting out of their homes to attend doctor appointments, dialysis, etc. The students participating in this program will have a greater awareness of, and hopefully, participation in philanthropy and community service over the course of their lives. Short Term Success In each scholastic year, at least 80 students will participate in a community service project which benefits an elderly or disabled individual, immediately improving that individual's situation. 4
