4 PROGRAMS Technology is in IT Description The Technology is in IT program's goal is to introduce students to the technology and science involved in unexpected careers. In 2012 and 2013, 50 students experienced a behind the scenes tour of the paddocks at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix. In 2014, 25 students and educators from PTEC participated. Engineers and highly skilled mechanics explained the calculations, physics, and science behind the racecars speeding around the track. Budget $10, Category Program Linked to Organizational Strategy Population Served Short Term Success Long Term Success Program Success Monitoring Program Success Examples Education, General/Other Education & Technology Adolescents Only (13-19 years) After completing the program, students will be more knowledgeable about the science and technology involved in the careers involved in the program. Specifically at the Grand Prix, students will be more aware of the impact of technology in racing. Through this program, high school students will become more aware of the career opportunities involving technology and science in the Tampa Bay area. We hope to change the stigma of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) careers being boring, uncool, and dull. We want to show students that these career paths can be rewarding and worth pursuing. The program is evaluated by the students, teachers, TechStart event and program manager, and TechStart board members. Students write essays about their learning experience. Students, teachers, and administrators spoke very highly of the program with hopes to attend again the following year. Because the students were from the rtheast Automotive Technology Education Center, the program was relevant and provided inspiration to continue their education. 4
