We will present treatment algorithms used by our institution to help promote effective patient management and optimal outcomes from a maternal and neonatal standpoint. Increase your understanding of how these methods impact nursing care and patient experience and satisfaction. Objectives: Explain the need for change in terminology to Triple I and the pathophysiology leading to suspected diagnosis. Describe treatment algorithms used to care for mom and baby. The Growing Problem of Obesity In Pregnancy Katherine M Jacobs, DO Description: This lecture will focus on the growing problem of obesity in pregnancy. We will focus on evidencebased interventions that can improve long term maternal and child health. Objectives: Define obesity and its prevalence in a pregnant population. List potential health consequences of maternal obesity on mothers and children throughout their lives. Discuss evidence-based interventions which can be implemented prior to and during pregnancy to improve long term maternal health and that of their children. A2. Updates in Managing Newborn Hypoglycemia Heidi J Kamrath, DO Description: This presentation will focus on evidence-based approaches for the identification and treatment of newborn hypoglycemia. Objectives: Identify common definitions of newborn hypoglycemia. Describe risks of newborn hypoglycemia. List treatment options for newborn hypoglycemia. 11:10am- 12:10pm CONCURRENT SESSION B B1. Identification of Human Trafficking for the HealthCare Professional Kristi J Jarvis, BS, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P Description: Human Trafficking is considered modern day slavery and is prevalent throughout the world. Most people believe that sex trafficking is something that only occurs in other countries or is similar to the movie, Taken. In reality, sex trafficking involves our own girls and boys right in here in our own backyard. While education and awareness of this topic was rampant around the Super Bowl, sex trafficking is not just a Super Bowl issue. This course will provide an overview of what human trafficking looks like in MN and what healthcare providers need to be aware of in order to accurately and effectively identify victims. Resources specific to MN will also be provided as well as a number of real life case studies from the perspective of a Forensic Nurse Examiner. Objectives: Define what human sex trafficking is and differences in sex trafficking of a minor and an adult. List at least five red flags and indicators a victim of human sex trafficking may exhibit to a healthcare professional. Describe at least three tactics employed by traffickers to maintain control over and prevent victims of human sex trafficking from leaving. 2 of 10
3 B2. The Late Preterm Infant: Steroids, readmissions, and IEPs? Jane E Brumbaugh, MD Description: This session will focus on the evolving practices and long-term outcomes of the late preterm infant. We will cover: 1) the risks and benefits of antenatal steroids for threatened late preterm delivery; 2) discharging the late preterm infant; 3) cognitive and behavioral outcomes of children who were born late preterm. Objectives: Identify the primary indication for use of antenatal steroids for threatened late preterm delivery. List three reasons why late preterm infants may be readmitted to the inpatient setting. Describe how late preterm birth may manifest its effects on the developing brain at school age. A Primer for Third Stage Management: Clinical Considerations for the Obstetric Team Samantha A Sommerness, DNP, APRN, CNM Description: We will review maternal morbidity and mortality and how it affects components of the third stage of labor. After this session, participants will be able to have a clear review that aid in the support of mom and baby staying together to include recent updates and support of the first hour after birth to include: cord clamping, active versus expectant management, skin to skin contact and breastfeeding within the first hour. Objectives: Identify top areas of maternal morbidity and mortality. Describe the evidence supporting key components of improving outcomes and reducing risk related to the third stage of labor. List at least three evidence-based strategies every birth setting should consider in collaborative care of the third stage and immediate postpartum period to help support keeping mom and baby together. 12:10pm- 1:15pm 1:15pm- 2:15pm 2:25pm- 3:25pm C2. Nutrition support in the NICU and beyond: Balancing promotion of neurodevelopment while reducing metabolic risk Sara E Ramel, MD Description: This session will look at the importance of nutrition for proper growth and neurodevelopment of the newborn. Objectives: Review the importance of early, optimized nutrition in preterm infants for growth and neurodevelopment. Recognize potential trade-offs to accelerated growth in various populations. Describe the influence of early nutrition and growth on later neurodevelopment in various populations, including SGA and AGA term and preterm infants. CONCURRENT SESSION D D1. Hot Topics in Obstetrics Keeping Patients Safe Sandra L Hoffman, MS, RNC-EFM Description: Discuss changing trends with regard to maternal morbidity and mortality in obstetrics, and actions nurses and providers can take to help reduce risks. Maternal and newborn topics such as maternal early warning signs, OB sepsis screening for mothers, newborn sepsis score, hypertensive emergency treatment, CPR in pregnancy/perimortem cesearean, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism prevention, neonatal head surveillance, and electronic fetal monitoring category II and III case studies will be discussed. Objectives: Describe causes and contributing factors to severe maternal morbidity and mortality in the U.S. and actions that nurses and others can take to improve safety and outcomes. Describe OB sepsis screening and interventions for mothers that are designed to improve detection and appropriate treatment for optimal outcomes. Explain one approach to ensuring newborn safety by ensuring appropriate assessment using a neonatal head surveillance algorithm for newborns at risk for head trauma the possible subsequent complications. 3 of 10

Neonatal Diseases that Lead to Pulmonary Hypertension: Pathology and Treatment Aaron W Swenson, MD Description: This lecture is designed for those who take care of newborns, from nurses, mid-level providers, respiratory therapists, to advanced providers. Designed to help listeners understand normal physiology and the different disease states that can trigger respiratory failure and pulmonary hypertension, and how to medically manage the issues that follow. Objectives: Discuss normal and abnormal pulmonary and cardiac function in a newborn. Describe different disease states and how these affect newborns and lead to pulmonary hypertension and respiratory failure. Identify different medical management options and respiratory strategies for treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Break, Visit with Sponsors PLENARY SESSION II Telling Stories in the Dark: the healing forces of instinct and love Kelley French, MJ, BA, BS Description: The NICU was a dazzling and intimidating netherworld of machinery, but every time my child was saved, it as by a human being paying attention. A reminder that the most important medicine is the oldest and purest: love. Objectives: Identify the parent prospective of a critically ill child. Recognize the role of language in making connections with parents. Identify the importance the care team plays in helping parents help their sick child. Objectives: Explain the impact of inequity on neonatal and maternal outcomes. List social and structural determinants of health and describe how they relate to health equity. Describe March of Dimes initiatives, including the National Prematurity Campaign Collaborative, to address health equity. 4 of 10
5 10:40am PLENARY SESSION IV Cannabis Use in Pregnancy Cresta W Jones, MD Description: This session will examine recent data and medical recommendations related to the use of cannabis during pregnancy and lactation. Objectives: Discuss the limits of current knowledge of cannabis use in pregnancy and lactation. Discuss recent data on cannabis use in pregnancy and lactation. Apply recommendations for patient counseling on cannabis use in pregnancy and lactation. 9:40am- 10:40am- 11:00am 11:00am- 12:00pm BREAK PLENARY SESSION V Moving from Surviving to Thriving Corey Martin, MD Description: Burnout is epidemic in healthcare. Dr Martin talks about how common burnout is and the consequences to our personal wellbeing, the organizations we work for, and the patients we care for. He shares simple, efficient techniques to combat and prevent burnout and improve our relationships with our loved ones, colleagues, and patients. Objectives: Recognize how common burnout is in healthcare. List at least three different interventions that can improve your health, happiness and burnout levels. List the scientific benefits of a daily gratitude practice. List the scientific benefits of improved relationships at work and at home. Purpose & Objectives This program is designed to provide state-of-the-art information on obstetric and newborn care practices, and is of particular importance and value to obstetric and newborn care nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives, family physicians, physician assistants, obstetricians, pediatricians, and allied perinatal health care professionals. After attending the conference, participants should be able to: 1) Describe the process to implement individual and population-based systems of care that are irrespective of the consumer s race, age, culture and outcomes-based research. 2) Discuss the design plans of inpatient and outpatient care for implementation by designated healthcare professionals, which address the unique nutritional, developmental, psychosocial, nursing and medical needs of mothers and infants. 3) Develop personal goals that will promote a positive outlook on their role as an essential member of the perinatal healthcare team. *Successful completion of this activity requires that participants turn in all evaluation materials for attended sessions.
