This workshop will provide information and tools for experienced clinicians. Target Audience Lactation consultants, nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physicians, physician assistants, chiropractors, speech pathologists nutritionists, health educators, doulas, public health practitioners, peer counselors, breastfeeding support volunteers and healthcare profession students Content includes: Postpartum Depression, Breastfeeding and Sleep Breastfeeding and Metabolic Syndrome Impact of Violence on Breastfeeding and Maternal Mental Health New Paradigm for Depression in New Mothers Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this educational activity, the participant should be able to: Discuss recent studies on breastfeeding s impact on women s lifetime health. Describe the role of breastfeeding and standard treatments for depression in lowering inflammation and down-regulating the stress response. Discuss the impact of violence on breastfeeding. Discuss fatigue and sleep for breastfeeding and formula-feeding mothers.
