2 About Us Course Description Maternal mortality in the U.S. continues to rise almost 27 percent from and more than doubled since The WHO estimates >1000 maternal deaths in the U.S. annually with approximately half felt to be preventable. Another 60,000 near fatal maternal events occur annually in the U.S. This conference aims to address obstacles to reversal of this trend by identifying protocols for risk assessment and early intervention as has been successfully applied in California. In addition, we will address post event analysis of fatal and near fatal maternal events. Audience Practicing Obstetricians Nurse Practitioners Residents Family Practitioners Obstetrical Nurses Medical Students Certified Nurse Midwives MFM Fellows Course Objectives The conference lectures will inform participants about the current thinking regarding many of the problems they face in their challenging obstetrical practices, and better equip them to handle problems or seek assistance from specialists. Identify quality and safety metrics that can be applied at your institution. Introduce new strategies for management of postpartum hemorrhage.
