4 Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived During his remarkable career with the Boston Red Sox, Ted Williams earned many nicknames The Kid, The Splendid Splinter, and Teddy Ballgame but the only nickname that he wanted was the greatest hitter who ever lived. In that pursuit, he combined his preternatural gifts with a fierce work ethic to become widely regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game of baseball and, in the process, elevated the science of hitting in ways still emulated today. Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived on American Masters explores not only the Baseball Hall of Famer s remarkable on-field accomplishments, but also his complicated relationships with his family, teammates, press, fans, and himself. The film marks the first baseball subject in the 32-year history of the American Masters series. Through never-before-seen archival footage and in-depth interviews with those who knew and studied Williams, the documentary demonstrates the power of the heroic myth-making culture in which Williams flourished. Lesser-known topics explored in the film include Williams Mexican-American background, his experiences serving during World War II and the Korean War, and his deep rage over his mother s virtual abandonment of him and his younger brother. Narrated by Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Jon Hamm, American Masters also looks at the legendary player s impact on the game of baseball and his relevance in the almost 60 years since his retirement, highlighted by Williams iconic achievement he is the last player to hit over.400, finishing the 1941 season batting.406. The documentary also features exclusive never-beforeseen footage of Williams final game and includes new interviews with Bob Costas, Wade Boggs, Ben Bradlee Jr., and Joey Votto. Ted Williams: The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived on American Masters will be broadcast on 3-2 Monday, the 23rd at 8:00 p.m. and Friday, the 27th at 9:00 p.m. On 3-1, it can be seen Monday, the 23rd at 9:00 p.m. HILLARY Hillary, a six-part New Zealand drama series, is about mountaineer and philanthropist Sir Edmund Hillary. Hillary tells the story of the first man to conquer Mt. Everest. From his beekeeping days in South Auckland, to his ascent of the world s highest mountain with climbing partner Tenzing Norgay, to the plane crash that killed his wife and daughter, the series vividly brings back to life the man New Zealanders affectionately called Sir Ed. When he summited Everest in May 1953, Hillary put his small home country on the map. He was so beloved in New Zealand that his likeness is featured on the five dollar note, and he was given a state funeral after his 2008 death. The drama begins with Hillary s fascination with the Himalaya after reading about the range. He hopes to help the war effort, but his father wants him to continue beekeeping. After serving in the air force, he meets George Lowe, his lifelong friend and climbing partner. When Hillary falls in love with Louise, he is too shy to approach her. After discovering a new route up Mt. Everest, Hillary and his new climbing partner, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, seize the opportunity to reach the peak. Hillary arrives home to worldwide fame. He marries Louise and returns to beekeeping. When he is offered the chance to join an Antarctica expedition, he must choose between a new adventure and staying behind with his growing family. Hillary is written by Tom Scott, with whom Hillary entrusted his life story. Andrew Munro stars as Hillary, while Dean O Gorman plays George Lowe, his longtime friend and climbing partner, and Amy Usherwood plays his wife, Lady Louise Hillary. Hillary will be broadcast on 3-2 Sundays at 6:00 p.m. beginning the 8th. On 3-1, it will be broadcast Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. beginning the 10th and Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 11th. 4 Paul Thorn s Mission Temple Fireworks Revival In March 2018, Paul Thorn released an old-school gospel album titled Don t Let the Devil Ride, featuring several gospel songs that were an inspiration to him during his youth and adolescence. The album peaked at No. 1 in the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. Inspired by the album, Paul Thorn s Mission Temple Fireworks Revival features the Tupelo, Mississippi native and his crack band along with seveal prominent artists in that genre, such as the five-time Grammy Award-winning icons The Blind Boys of Alabama, the gospel singing quartet the McCrary Sisters, Bonnie Bishop, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band in an unforgettable evening of gritty, soulful, and raucous Southern gospel music. Paul Thorn s Mission Temple Fireworks Revival airs on 3-2 Thursday, the 5th at 10:00 p.m., Sunday, the 8th at 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, the 12th at 8:00 p.m. On 3-1, it can be seen Thursday, the 5th at 7:00 p.m.

5 Curious Traveler As an arts and travel reporter for the past 20 years, Christine van Blokland, the award-winning host of Curious Traveler, built a career out of her insatiable curiosity for the exciting, inspiring, and beautiful world around us. Christine brings that same passion and zest for the arts, storytelling, and lifelong learning to Curious Traveler. In this exciting season, Christine travels to several major cities in Europe, including Paris, Rome, and Stockholm, as well as the unique destinations of Kotor (a fortified town on Montenegro s Adriatic coast), and Gascony in southwestern France. Curious Traveler is an enriching and entertaining field trip for grown-ups to the most intriguing places in the world. This isn t your typical what-to-do-on-vacation travel show. It s an all-access pass to the who, what, where and how did they do that? of the world s best art, architecture, and hidden histories. Curious Traveler will be broadcast on 3-2 Sundays at 12:00 noon beginning the 1st and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 7th. The Saturday broadcast replaces decades of British comedies from the BBC, which have become too costly to continue. The Tunnel: Vengeance Stephen Dillane stars as Karl and Clémence Poésy as Elise. The award winning British crime drama The Tunnel returns for a third and final season with the six-part drama titled The Tunnel: Vengeance. The final season of the crime thriller reunites Stephen Dillane ( Game of Thrones ) in his role as Karl Roebuck with Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II) as Elise Wassermann for the last outing of this unlikely Anglo-French partnership. In The Tunnel: Vengeance, the investigative pair takes on a toxic and terrifying folie à deux (shared psychosis) whose mutual defining quality is an existential death wish. When the question posed by the couple what is a life worth? is directed straight back at Karl, he is forced to confront an utterly impossible choice. Set amidst mid-brexit hysteria, this final season tackles an escalating refugee crisis, and examines the increasing threat of terror occasioned by disenfranchised, exiled souls on whom society has turned its back. The Tunnel: Vengeance will be broadcast on 3-2 Sundays at 9:30 p.m. beginning the 1st. On 3-1, it airs Sundays at 11:00 p.m. beginning the 1st. Christine is shown visiting the Bascilica of the Sacred Heart, commonly referred to as Sacré Coeur in Paris. Legacy in Stone Ancient Flintknapping In 1961 an amazing discovery of ancient Clovis points was discovered when a road grader inadvertently uncovered the artifacts on a farm near Fairfield, Idaho. The entire collection consists of dozens of stone tools points, blades, and spearheads in various stages of completion. According to anthropologists, the cache represents some of the finest Clovis artifacts ever discovered. The Clovis people were the earliest known inhabitants of America and were the ancestors of American Indians.Their knapped points are characterized by a short, fluted base where they were attached to arrows or spears. Legacy in Stone: Discovering Ancient Flintknapping in Idaho is the story of the discovery and subsequent examination of these ancient artifacts. Archeologists come together to demonstrate the art, science, and skill of flintknapping which created this exquisite 12,000 year-old cache. Clovis fluted points are named after the city of Clovis, New Mexico, where examples were first found in 1929 by Ridgely Whiteman. Legacy in Stone: Discovering Ancient Flintknapping in Idaho airs on 3-2 Sunday, the 22nd at 5:00 p.m. On 3-1, it airs Tuesday, the 24th at 9:00 p.m. 10 Streets, Monuments, & Modern Marvels This summer PBS premieres 10 Streets that Changed America, 10 Monuments that Changed America, and 10 Modern Marvels that Changed America. 10 Streets that Changed America traces Broadway s 400-year evolution: from Native American trail to Dutch trading route to America s first street to feature mass transit and an electrically-lighted theater district known as the Great White Way. From Boston to New York on the Boston Post Road, ride a dirt highway created for the nation s first mail carriers and which helped to win the American Revolution. And learn about the first road ever paid for by the federal government, which paved the way for covered wagons carrying settlers to the West. In 10 Monuments that Changed America, visit little-known locations like a sculptural masterpiece dedicated to one of the first African-American units to serve in the Civil War, and learn the surprising stories behind American icons like the Statue of Liberty, which was devised as a propaganda piece by French politicians. From Boston s Bunker Hill Monument in 1843 to the AIDS Memorial Quilt in 1987, the episode uncovers pivotal moments in the evolution of American monuments. In 10 Modern Marvels that Changed America, celebrate those who have scoffed at the laws of nature and defied the naysayers by undertaking these fantastic feats of engineering. Each story includes a tale of human folly, beginning with the Erie Canal, a 363-mile long man-made waterway that was built in the 19th century by thousands of laborers using primitive hand tools. While John Roebling may be famous for the Brooklyn Bridge, his first creation came 16 years earlier with a suspension bridge that connected Ohio and Kentucky a free state and a union state in the midst of the Civil War. And it was in 1900, when Chicago s river became an open sewer that fed into the city s water supply, that a crafty engineer came up with a startling plan: reverse the flow of the river to the Mississippi, toward the city s longtime rival, St. Louis. 10 Streets, Monuments, and Modern Marvels air on 3-2 Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 10th. On 3-1, they air Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 10th and Wednesdays at 8:00 a.m. beginning the 11th. 5

6 Earth s Natural Wonders: Life at the Extremes Filmed on six continents in 12 languages, Earth s Natural Wonders: Life at the Extremes captures the beauty and danger of Earth s most extraordinary places and tells the remarkable stories of people who live in them. From soaring mountains to deep jungles, and frozen Polar worlds, human beings need bravery and ingenuity to survive within them. Among the stories told in the series: a young Sherpa ropes a route across the notorious Khumbu Icefall in time for hundreds of foreign mountaineers who arrive for hunting season; fishermen near Zambia s Victoria Falls brave crocodiles, elephants, and the risk of being swept to certain death to reach exotic fishing pools at the Falls edge; and a father and son brave killer bees and man-eating tigers to find prized honey in Bangladesh s Sundarbands, the largest mangrove forest in the world. Geologist and host Steve Maynard leads viewers on an amazing journey of adventure and discovery about rock. The air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink would not exist without rock. Everything that s in an airplane came out of rock. The aluminum of the fuselage came from bauxite ores, while various electronics and metal parts came out of ores, mainly copper ore. The glass came out of sand, sandstone. The fuel, of course, is a petroleum product. Man s most widely used rock has been limestone. Limestone is added to toothpaste, paper, plastics, paint, tiles. Purified, it s added to bread, cereals, medicines, cosmetics, and livestock feed. And there are so many more interesting things to learn about rock in this program. 21st Century Stone Age can be seen on 3-2 Monday, the 2nd at 9:00 p.m. On 3-1, it airs Thursday, the 5th at 9:30 p.m. The Rockies, The Himalaya, The Andes: Kingdoms of the Sky PBS premieres a three-part series on some of the most spectacular mountains on Earth. The Rockies are the spine of North America, stretching more than 3000 miles. Snow-capped peaks and hidden valleys teem with wildlife: cougars hunt in abandoned ranches, wolverines Peru mountain villagers search the deep snow for food, Grizzly bears hunt in the high mountain meadows, and hummingbirds migrate in enormous numbers. Daredevil wingsuit fliers leap from mile high cliffs and Native American tribes compete in breakneck horse races. The Himalaya is the highest mountain range on earth. Here the air is the thinnest, the wind the strongest, the storms the fiercest. The extraordinary wildlife and people of the Himalaya include bizarre snub-nosed monkeys that live in frozen forests and Tibetan monks who perform ancient rituals high in the mountains while snow leopards prowl the mountain sides. The Andes is the longest mountain range in the world with peaks towering over twenty thousand feet. But the Andes is also home to the flattest place on earth. Each of these different worlds is home to animals or people who have adapted to its challenges. The Rockies, The Himalaya, The Andes: Kingdoms of the Sky airs on 3-2 Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 11th and Sundays at 11:00 a.m. beginning the 15th. On 3-1, it airs Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 11th and Thursdays at 7:00 a.m. beginning the 12th. FRONTLINE UN Sex Abuse Scandal UN Sex Abuse Scandal on Frontline investigates sex abuse by United Nations peacekeepers in the world s conflict zones. SHOTS FIRED Just before school started on an April morning, a student at North Thurston High School in Lacey, Washington, walked into an area teaming with students, raised a.357 Mgnum, and fired into the ceiling. Chaos erupted. The student fired a second shot. What happened next is the best-case scenario in the face of such terror. No one died. Without taking sides in the gun control/ rights debate, Shots Fired offers a rare look at a school shooting. Even with no fatalities, the residual trauma is palpable. Students, teachers, staff, and school administrators, along with first responders, reflect on what happened, what went well, and what could have worked better. Shots Fired poses some important questions: what can we do to prevent these kinds of situations; what can we do to prepare for such incidents; and what do schools and first responders need in order to improve communications during a critical incident? Shots Fired will be broadcast on 3-2 Sunday, the 22nd at 10:30 p.m., Monday, the 23rd at 9:00 p.m., and Friday, the 27th a 11:30 p.m. On 3-1, it airs Monday, the 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Penelope Keith s Hidden Villages Penelope Keith s Hidden Villages, a sixpart series, leads viewers through Britain s most charming villages to uncover what makes these places so unique. Penelope Keith s Hidden Villages airs on 3-1 Saturdays at 4:00 p.m. beginning the 14th. Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles tells the story of the man who created many of Los Angeles most iconic structures at a time when the city was inventing itself. Among the more than 400 buildings he designed are the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, home to the 1932, 1984, and 2028 Olympics (above); Los Angeles City Hall, the most iconic building in the city; Bullock s Wilshire, an Art Deco cathedral of commerce, and Union Station, the last great American train station.
