4 A Summer of Mystery on PBS Lto R: Roger Allam as DI Thursday and Shaun Evans as DC Morse Endeavor 3 The Tunnel Dancing on the Edge Shaun Evans returns with his portrayal of Detective Constable Morse in four new episodes of Endeavour 3 on Masterpiece Mystery! Last we all saw, Endeavour Morse was in prison, framed for the murder of Chief Constable Rupert Standish, and his partner, DI Fred Thursday, had been shot. It s now March 1967 and Morse is brooding over his suspension from duty, pending an inquiry, when a country fair turns sinister and a young bus conductress is found brutally murdered. Although DC Endeavour Morse isn t part of the team called in to investigate the murder, a startling development in the case draws him in. Morse begins his own covert investigation, uncovering a disturbing secret that is hidden in plain sight. Endeavor 3 on Masterpiece Mystery! airs on 3-2 Sundays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 19th and Fridays at 10:00 p.m. beginning the 24th. On HD3-1, it airs Mondays at 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. beginning the 20th. Clémence Poésy as Elise and Stephen Dillane as Karl Airing as part of the PBS summer mystery line-up, The Tunnel is a critically acclaimed 10-part British crime drama set against the backdrop of Europe in crisis. When a prominent French politician is found dead in the middle of the Channel Tunnel, straddling the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck, played by Stephen Dillane ( Game of Thrones ) and Elise Wassermann, played by Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts I and II) are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. The case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership. The Tunnel will be broadcast on 3-2 Sundays at 9:30 p.m. beginning the 19th and Fridays at 11:30 p.m. beginning the 24th. On HD3-1, it airs Sundays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 19th and Mondays at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. beginning the 20th. Chiwetel Ejiofor as Louie From acclaimed writer Stephen Poliakoff (The Lost Prince), Dancing on the Edge has many of the elements of an Agatha Christie novel wealth! garden parties! intrigue! murder! but also incorporates the very American element of jazz. The six-part mystery features sumptuous sets and costuming and an all-star cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Matthew Goode, Jacqueline Bisset, and John Goodman. The miniseries covers the rise and quick unravelling of the fictional Louis Lester Band from 1932 to 1933, led by their highly educated band leader Louie (Ejiofer) and a pair of alluring chanteuses, Jessie (Angel Coulby) and Clara (Wunmi Musaku). Countless aristocrats including the royal family ask the band to play at parties. But just as the band s success balloons, tragedy strikes. Dancing on the Edge airs on 3-2 Sundays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 26th. On HD3-1, it airs Sundays at 10:00 p.m. beginning the 26th. Portrait of Wally The Face that Launched a Thousand Lawsuits Portrait of Wally tells the story of the 1912 oil painting by Austrian painter Egon Schiele of Valerie Wally Neuzil, his favorite model and true love until the time of his marriage to another woman in The documentary traces the history of this iconic image from the theft of the painting from Lea Bondi, a Jewish art dealer fleeing Vienna for her life, to postwar confusion and subterfuge, to the surprise resurfacing of Wally on loan to the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan (MOMA) in 1997 that triggered a historic court case. For 13 years the painting was locked up in New York, caught in a legal battle between the Leopold Museum in Vienna that had 4 loaned the painting to MOMA and the Jewish family from whom the Nazis seized the painting in MOMA, along with all the museums in New York even the Jewish Museum sided with the Leopold Museum and against the Jewish family. But this was more than a dispute over property stolen from Jews during the Holocaust. It was a battle over history and memory. This time, the truth won. The lengthy Wally case was resolved in dramatic fashion in 2010, having brought the story of Nazi art loot into the open. Eventually, museums around the world were forced to search their own collections for suspect objects. Many museums ended up returning art to Jewish families who had abandoned hope until Wally showed that institutions could be held accountable for holding property stolen during the Holocaust. Portrait of Wally contains paintings of naked women and men by Schiele, a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. Portrait of Wally airs on 3-2 Monday, the 27th at 9:00 p.m.

5 Path to Healing: Genomics and Disease Prevention Path to Healing: Genomics and Disease Prevention examines the impact of precision medicine also known as personalized medicine or targeted treatment by using knowledge gained from the Human Genome Project, completed in 2003 after more than a decade of effort to map a genetic blueprint for a human being. Precision medical therapies have had remarkable results in the treatment of cancer, muscular dystrophy, and other diseases. Each human has more than 20,000 genes. But, unlike genetic testing where scientists look at one suspect gene at a time, genomic testing allows researchers to look at hundreds of genes at a time. Viewers meet experts on the forefront of this new era in medicine, and hear the stories of patients offered hope by new treatments, including Corey Wood, a 22-yearold non-smoker who received successful targeted treatment for stage-4 lung cancer. Path to Healing: Genomics and Disease Prevention airs on 3-2 Sunday, the 19th at 12:00 noon and Sunday, the 26th at 6:30 p.m./11:30 p.m. On HD3-1, it can be seen Monday, the 13th at 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday, the 14th at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds examines the crisis surrounding the corporate patenting of seeds our most crucial source of food, fuel, and fabric. Approximately 90 percent of the fruit and vegetable varieties that existed 100 years ago no longer exist today. Seeds that were lovingly nurtured over decades or even hundreds of years have been lost forever. In the past, the seed was communal, a shared resource. But today, corporateowned seed accounts for 82% of the worldwide market. Plants grown from transgenic seeds (also known as GMOs) send pollen through the wind and contaminate neighboring crops. Food grown has been shown to have dangerous health effects and once a crop is contaminated by GMO pollen, there is no turning back. In Open Sesame, viewers meet a diverse range of individuals farmers, renegade gardeners, passionate seed savers, artists, and seed activists as they work to save this precious resource. Open Sesame: The Story of Seeds will be broadcast on 3-2 Saturday, the 4th at 11:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, the 15th at 9:00 p.m. The Grand Rescue The Grand Rescue recounts one of the most infamous rescues of its time. In 1967, on the North Face of the Grand Teton (shown), seven rescuers risked their lives to save a severely injured climber and his companion. The rescue took three harrowing days and pushed the team to the edge of their abilities. Remarkably, the injured climber was publicly critical of those who risked their lives to save his. It was August 22nd around 2:00 p.m. when a young graduate student and his female climbing companion became stranded on a narrow ledge 13,000 feet high. A boulder had broken free and showered the climbers with rock fall leaving Gaylord Campbell with protruding compound fractures. The rescue was the first one on the feared North Face, an unprecedented rescue for its time due to the climber s severe injuries and unknown terrain. The Grand Rescue can be seen on 3-2 Wednesday, the 15th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, the 26th at 10:00 a.m. On HD3-1, it airs Wednesday, the 1st at 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. VICIOUS The acclaimed British sitcom Vicious returns for one final hurrah, after its two season run. Ferociously funny and heartfelt as ever, this final episode charts a year in the lives of the beloved leading partners Freddie (Ian McKellen, above left) and Stuart (Derek Jacobi, above right), and their friends Violet, Ash, Penelope, and Mason. The episode opens in springtime, when Freddie and Stuart attempt to hide their recently gained inheritance, while Violet faces financial troubles after her recent divorce and Ash struggles to meet his rent. Signs of Freddie and Stuart s expenditures soon threaten the pretense as their home is overrun with guests. A Year on Vicious will be broadcast on 3-2 Sunday, the 19th at 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. On HD3-1, it airs Sunday, the 19th at 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight. 9 Months That Made You 9 Months That Made You, a three-part series, reveals the thrilling story of how you were made, from the moment of conception to the moment of birth 280 days later. The latest research and medical advances reveal this hidden world in forensic detail. The First 8 Weeks follows the story of how, from a fertilized egg, you became unmistakably human at about 12 weeks. One of a Kind explores how your face was shaped, why you re likely to be righthanded, and how your sexuality formed. In The Final Countdown, it turns out that a time you can t remember the nine months you spend in the womb could have more lasting effects on your health, personality, and even the lives of your children than your lifestyle or genes. 9 Months That Made You airs on 3-2 Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. beginning the 29th. On HD3-1, it airs Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 29th and repeats Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. INDEPENDENT LENS TRAPPED TRAPPED on Independent Lens goes to the front lines of the controversial battle currently being waged over so-called TRAP laws Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers which reproductive rights advocates believe are designed to restrict access to abortion. Proponents of these laws, most of which have been passed in Southern states, maintain that they are necessary to protect women s health. In Texas, more than half of the clinics open in 2013 have closed; the handful remaining in Alabama are struggling, and only one remains in Mississippi. The current case before the U.S. Supreme Court, Whole Women s Health v. Hellerstedt, will decide whether these laws are constitutional. TRAPPED on Independent Lens will be broadcast on 3-2 Monday, the 20th at 9:00 p.m. On HD3-1, it airs Monday, the 20th at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, the 21st at 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. 5

6 The Greeks In The Greeks, Parthenon, 432 BC a three-part series, historians, archaeologists, actors, athletes, scientists, and artists alike explore the Greeks journey across time. Greeks invented democracy, distilled logic and reason, wrote plays to plumb the deepest recesses of the soul, and captured the perfection of the human form in athletics and art. Put simply, the Greeks created our world. From their beginnings as hunter-gatherers in harsh landscapes, to surviving the worst collapse in human history, to facing off against the greatest empire the world had ever known, the Greeks overcame incredible odds to pave the way for the modern West. The Greeks airs on 3-2 Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning the 21st and Sundays at 10:30 p.m. beginning the 26th. On HD3-1, it airs Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. beginning the 21st and repeats Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Real Adam Smith It s difficult to imagine that a man who lived with horse-drawn carriages and sailing ships would foresee our massive 21st century global market exchange, but Adam Smith, considered the father of modern economics, was no ordinary 18th century figure. The Real Adam Smith: A Personal Exploration explores Smith s insights regarding free trade and the nature of wealth, and how these insights from nearly 240 years ago are driving the world s economy today. In part one, Morality & Markets, French wine, Scottish whiskey, and freshlybaked scones all illustrate Smith s economic principles. True wealth is defined, and we learn Smith s thoughts on the government s role in markets and his distaste for monopolies and crony capitalism. Ideas that Changed the World ponders why Smith is so widely studied in China today, and whether ethical and honest businessess can still prosper in the current competitive environment. Ethical businesses, like Whole Foods, showcase the morality Smith insisted was critical to thriving markets, while Uber and ebay demonstrate that markets can thrive through selfpolicing. The two-parts of The Real Adam Smith: A Personal Exploration will be broadcast on 3-2 Friday, the 17th at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Summerfest 2016 June 3 12 Joan Baez Carol Burnett Carol ol Burnett s tt s Favorit orite e Sketches For over a decade, Americans would gather round their TV sets to watch The Carol Burnett Show. Legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, Cream, B.B. King, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Who graced The Grande Ballroom main stage. This is the story of the hallowed halls that started it all, told by the artists who helped create The Grande s legend.
