1 OMCNews The right care, right here. October 28, 2016 Service Inside this Issue? OMC Recognizes Security Staff during Security and Safety Week Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) recently recognized its Security Staff during Healthcare Security and Safety Week. OMC s crew is proficient and skilled in conflict management through effective problem-solving, handling emergency situations, theft prevention, and complaint handling skills. OMC s crew consists of 12 officers, many of which are law enforcement officers or ambulance personnel. Pictured front row, left to right: Chris Barrett; Buddy Thompson; RD Reid; Retha Evans, Security Manager; Carl Ulm; and Ryan Hurley. Back row: Larry Rhoads, Ralph Finley, Randy Smith, Keith Price, and Paul Bradshaw. Not pictured: Chuck Honeycutt and Cody Barnes. A note from Retha... This past week it was Safety and Security week, and it is with great pleasure to let our community know that we have an amazing security staff at Ozarks Medical Center! OMC officers are capable of working independently, or as a team, and provide support for our hospital community. They can be relied on to deal professionally in emergency situations that may arise and to keep the public safety in mind at all times. They are able to work under pressure while staying calm. The staff on numerous occasions have jumped started a vehicle for someone and/or unlocked a vehicle for OMC staff. The security officers conduct patrols not only on the OMC campus, but at our off-site clinics. They use security and surveillance equipment to diffuse difficult and potentially dangerous situations. I am proud to say that I work with a great group of officers who make my job easier because they take our safety into their own hands on a daily basis. Please, next time you see a security officer, take time to thank them for a job well done. Mission To provide exceptional, compassionate care to all we serve. Vision We will change lives by nurturing hope, improving health and encouraging wellness every person every time.

3 October 28, Community OMC offers an effective way for smokers to overcome their tobacco addiction Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) and the American Lung Association will be offering the Freedom From Smoking program, an 8-week smoking cessation class for adults. Meetings will be held every Wednesday during the session beginning on Wednesday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m., in the OMC Pulmonary Rehab Conference Room in the Shaw Building. You must be registered by October 31. There is no cost for the program, but enrollment is required. As America s gold standard smoking cessation program for over 25 years, Freedom From Smoking helps participants create personalized plans to overcome their tobacco addiction. With a recent new edition, the program is based on the latest research on addiction and behavior change. It approaches the difficulties of quitting with a sensitive, supportive style. Studies show that people who use the program are six times more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who try to quit on their own. According to Ruth Nabors, Pulmonary Rehab Coordinator at OMC, the program is especially helpful because it is taught by a trained facilitator who helps participants learn what triggers their smoking, when they are most likely to smoke, and the best way to approach the quitting process. Our Community Health Needs Assessment showed the need for OMC to address causes of cancer and heart disease. Cigarettes and second-hand smoke are a leading cause of disease, said Tom Keller, OMC President and CEO. We want to improve lives by improving health. Helping people avoid health problems that can be prevented by stopping smoking will achieve a healthier community. The public can enroll in this free program by calling Ruth Nabors at , extension Please leave your name, phone number, and address on the voic and you will be contacted. The classes are limited to the first 15 to enroll. Forums Attendance I have entered most of the names from the August Forums sign-in sheets in Net Learning (NL). There are about two dozen names that I am trying to track down to get them entered. Unless you are one of those people, your forum attendance should be in NL. Remember, coworkers are required to attend 2 Forums per year. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Steve Culver Service Excellence Director Corporate Compliance Survey You should be receiving a Corporate Compliance on Survey Monkey on November 1. It should take you less than 5 minutes to complete It is very important that you complete this survey completely and honestly. I will be following up with all responses that indicate there may be any concerns by the end of The survey will be closed on 11/30 so please complete the survey prior to that date. Your input is valued and I want to hear from each and every one of you. October Honorary Team Member at OMC Home Care (Riverways) Our Intake referral specialist, Phyllis Franklin, RN is a great asset to our dynamic Home Health Care team. Phyllis has recently attended a diagnosis coding certification /qualification (three intense days of training and testing), updating education needs for accreditation and the applications needed to benefit our patients and enhance our Home Care operations. Needless to say, Phyllis has earned her Certification by Medicare by passing the course, as a Certified Diagnostic Coder to add to many other of professional attributes she provides on a daily basis, which are to be commendable and recognized. Phyllis has proven over and over to be a valued member of the home care team, and is always stepping up to the plate for the benefit of our team and the patients we serve. Her critical thinking skills add daily value to our operations and successful outcomes for our patients. I am very proud to have her as part of my team in the referral processing, qualification and high communications with the patients, team members, and providers as we as a Team, provide home care services second to none and she defines quality to our One Stop Shop for our post-acute services to patients. 5 October 28, People MEDITECH Physician/ CIO Forum Thought you would enjoy this picture of Dr. Frase at the MEDITECH Physician/ CIO Forum. In between our busy sessions, the physicians had the opportunity to play a life size game of Operation that was set up in the Doctor s Lounge. Dr. Frase represented OMC well as she was one of only four conference attendees to achieve a perfect score going 15 for 15 on the game. It was also interesting to note that only one of the physicians was a surgeon ( 2 hospitalists, 1 surgeon, and 1 IT guy). It was a good conference and we obtained some insights on a number of key topics including the Problem List! John F. Wilcox, Chief Information Officer OMC coworkers handed out mammogram information at the Grizzly Volleyball Pink Out Game this week. Pictured left to right: Brandi Davidson, RN (Radiation Oncology); Shae Criswell, Lead Office Assistant (CTC); Griz; Gannon (Susie Kenslow s grandson); Susie Kenslow, APN (Oncology); Tina Hansen, RN (Medical Oncology); and Gay Stover, Senior Executive Director of Marketing.
