1 PARENT CONNECTION October 2014 A monthly newsletter for parents of Luther High School students Luther High School Music Department has scheduled Heidelberg 2014 for Sunday, October 26. This celebration of our German heritage will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Heidelberg is a family event that features food, music performances, entertainment and games for the children. Food includes the traditional German meal of red cabbage, sauerbraten & noodles as well as brats and potato salad. There will also be Heidelberg 2014 pizza, walking tacos, pretzels and many desserts. The Big E will have 2 inflatable fun shows for all to enjoy. Door prizes will be given away all day. Music performances include the Luther High School Band and Choirs, Lancer Band and grade school choirs. Please plan on attending. If you are willing and able to help with Heidelberg, please contact Mr. Jim Rupprecht at x443. Luther High School 1501 Wilson St Onalaska, WI Mr. Paul Wichmann Principal x100 Mr. Keith Heinze Assistant Principal x109 Mr. James Mahnke Assistant Principal x116 Ugly Duckling - Children s Theater Ever feel different or out of place? Ever feel like a victim of rude comments or bullying? God has made each one of us uniquely different and He does not make mistakes! The Drama department is preparing for its fall production of Hans Christian Anderson s, The Ugly Duckling. The show will feature both high school and grade school students. The story tells of a homely little bird born in a barnyard who suffers abuse from the others around her until, much to her delight (and to the surprise of others), she matures into a beautiful swan. Take note - there s a beautiful swan in everyone! Please join us for the show in Luther s Auxiliary Gymnasium. The public performance will be on Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 p.m. The Lutheran Elementary Student performance will be on Monday, October 20. The Publications Department is looking for photos of student life, music events, athletic events - anything depicting life of current students at Luther. If you are willing to share Pictures Please! and don t mind them being used in print publications and on Luther s website, please contact Mary Bilitz at wi.us. Luther High School would like to recognize the men and women who have served our country in the Armed Forces at a special Veteran s Day chapel service and patriotic program. We invite veterans of our Armed Forces to be our honored guests on Tuesday, November 11 at this special worship and observance. The program will begin at 9:45 a.m. and will conclude at 11:15 a.m. Everyone is invited to join us as we give thanks to God and express gratitude to Veterans Day Service those who have served our nation in the Armed Forces. We will also be collecting information regarding Luther High alumni who have served or are currently serving our nation in the Armed Forces. If you or a relative is a veteran or is currently serving in the military please forward name, service, rank, area serving and a picture to the Luther High office to wi.us. Our goal is to honor all Luther High alumni that have served and are serving.

2 Fruit For Sale! The Luther High School Music Department will conduct its annual fruit sale from Heidelberg through December 1. Fruit will be delivered near December 9, just in time for Christmas gift giving. This year s sale features apples and pears, along with oranges, clementines and grapefruit. Customers can get their fruit in 40 lb boxes, half boxes and one-third boxes. We will also have a meat and cheese box with a variety of cheese blocks, summer sausage & cheese curds. Contact members of the Luther High band and choirs for information and order forms, or call Luther (608) x443 to place an order. The Luther High Music Department thanks you for your support. Winter Sports Physicals If your Freshman or Junior student is planning to participate in a winter sport, they need to have completed a physical for the current school year. Fall sport participants have already completed this process. If your child did not participate in a fall sport and is planning on participating in a winter sport please make your appointment now. Girls begin their winter sport season on Monday, November 10. The boys begin their winter sport season on Monday, November 17. No physical = No practice, so please plan ahead! LHS Apparel Orders The new line of Luther apparel is here! Choose from short sleeve (black or white) cotton t-shirts, dri-fit t-shirts, long sleeve t- shirts, hooded sweatshirts, baseball caps and knit beanies. In addition, we are featuring Adidas and Under Armour jackets and pullovers. Choose from two new designs, Loud & Proud or Luther Knights Athletics. You will also have the option of adding a name to some of the garment choices. This is your only chance to purchase Luther Athletic gear during this school year so act now!
