1 OMCNews The right care, right here. May 26, 2017 Growth Ozarks Medical Center to Break Ground on New Clinic on June 12 Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 12:15 p.m. June 12 for the new home of the combined OMC Mammoth Spring and Thayer clinic. The community is invited to attend. The groundbreaking will be held at the construction site at the corner of Nettleton and US Hwy 63 in Thayer, close to the Arkansas/Missouri state line. At 8,700 square feet, the combined clinic will greatly increase the size of the current clinics located at 300 Warmfork Road in Thayer, Missouri and 260 South Main Street in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. We are so pleased to officially kick off construction of this new, state-of-the-art facility, said Tom Keller, OMC President and CEO. By combining two clinics that are less than three miles apart into one, our goal is to help patients get all their health care needs met in one location. Keller said plans for the new facility include an increased number of exam rooms; a rehabilitation gym for physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy; expanded areas for behavioral healthcare, chronic care management, and patient education. The OMC Thayer Clinic has been serving the area since 1990, and is staffed by Dr. Harry Kelly, Family Nurse Practitioner Glennette Haney, and Licensed Social Worker Charlotte Collins. OMC began operating the Mammoth Spring Clinic in It is staffed by Dr. Harry Kelly and Family Nurse Practitioner Leslie Batterton. Dr. Kelly, along with Batterton, Haney and Collins will continue to provide care in the combined location. OMC will also be able to enhance services due to wiring and infrastructure for advanced electronic health capabilities such as telemedicine. We are proud to construct this spacious new facility to provide access to our patients closer to their homes, added Keller. Tate General Contractors, Inc. of Jonesboro, Arkansas are the general contractors on the project. Cromwell Architects and Engineers, Inc. of Little Rock, Arkansas is the architectural firm that designed the clinic. Construction of the clinic is expected to be complete in winter To reach the OMC Thayer Clinic, call or the OMC Mammoth Spring Clinic, call For more information about the groundbreaking, contact the OMC Public Relations Department at Inside this Issue OMC Lobby closing for remodel. It is great that OMC employees choose to live out our corporate mission by going out into the community to attend these events. Some people just needed to know we are available to help them. Others will need a higher level of care and we ll be prepared to help, Richard McGee OMC BHC Director. Addressing Envelopes Friendly reminder: Please address your envelopes completely and visible through window envelopes. We have had a few with no zip, no street address or folded so you could not see all of the address though the window. We try to catch as many as we can but some slip through and we get charged for them. Thank you for your help! Nina Tryon, CMRP, Manager Materials Management The Shuttle is back! Shuttle service is running again and I have drivers available Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:00pm and Friday from 8:00-12:00 noon. Call N Accessing Your Own Medical Records Even though I caused quite a stir by bringing it to your employees attention that we are truly reviewing their access to or through their own medical record even for purposes of doing their job, it was effective and made a huge impact on the report as you can see below from the I received from Brandon this week. No employee access! That s what we as Security and Privacy Officers like to see. Remember to educate your employees that accessing their medical record to see how much they owe is still considered accessing your own medical record. PHI includes many of the elements we collect and use here, including billing and patient account information. Thank you for all you do to keep us compliant with Privacy and Security rules. Jason Staggs, RHIT HIM Director Privacy Officer Jason.Staggs@ozarksmedicalcenter.com God, please enlighten my mind with truth, inflame my heart with love, inspire my will with courage, enrich my life with service, and please pardon what I have done. Sanctify what I am and order what I shall be. In Jesus name, Amen. Weekly Prayer brought to you by the OMC Chaplains

3 May 26, Growth OMC Main Entrance and Lobby to be Closed for Remodel Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) main entrance and lobby will be closed beginning Wednesday, May 31 for remodeling. Everyone should use the entrance of Surgical Services just south of the main entrance. Remodel work began a few weeks ago and detours were used as sections of the walls were remodeled. The closing will allow new flooring to be installed and an update to the information counter and main hospital admissions waiting area. The OMC Gift Shop will be closed during this time. The OMC Courtesy Shuttle will be available during daytime business hours. The main entrance and lobby should reopen in approximately three weeks. For more information, contact OMC Public Relations Department at Gift Baskets for Volunteer Dinner This year s Annual Volunteer Dinner Is Thursday, June 22, The theme is the TV show Happy Days, just in case you are already thinking about those wonderful gift baskets that you make for them every year. The gift baskets are always the HIGHLIGHT of the entire evening. For more information, call Dianne Hoover at You Rock! These individuals You Rock cards were shared with Public Relations: Madeline Hicks & Aaron Feidler ~ Urgent Care Clinic They dug a foreign body out of my thumbnail that had been embedded almost two weeks. They were so kind and considerate and took very good care of me. They went above and beyond what was expected and they deserve recognition for their courageous and tedious skill. ~ from a patient Dr. Brian Teeter ~ ED Dr. Teeter was the voice of calm during my heart attack recently. He s the one that told me I was having a heart attack and calmly reassured me as many started working on me. He told me I was going to be fine. ~ from a patient Jennifer Whitaker ~ BHC Jennifer made a client comfortable by explaining CPRC services and the client s options when being in CPRC. The client reported feeling that Jennifer was well informed and comfortable with participating CPRC services. ~ from a coworker Karmen Cressman ~ Transcription EWS transcription crashed and Dr. Howard started using the telephone transcription. When Karmen was called, she immediately started typing from home. She had spent the night before at a graduation lock-in and only got home at 6:00 a.m. It was 9:00 a.m. when I called. Even though she was exhausted, she knew patient care and flow was being affected and did all she could to make things flow smoothly. ~ from a coworker Emergency Department For going above and beyond on a very busy night (May 9). The following individuals worked extra to keep this ship afloat. Very proud and happy to be working with such dedicated professionals! On duty: Emily Sexton, PA; Alva Gerlach, RN/Charge Nurse; Nathan Wickham, Medic; Gayle Green, RN/House Supervisor; and Kialy Farris, ED Scribe Those who stayed beyond their scheduled shift: Dona Fuller, RN; Trish Bullock, RN; Reba Gunter, RN/House Supervisor Those who came in extra: Dr. Horstman and Glenna Birk, RN/ED Clinic Supervisor ~ from a coworker Julie ~ Lab Julie, after a long night shift and morning rounds, had a 2-year old patient. His mother had run out of diapers and the floor only had a much larger size available. Julie (after clocking out) went to her car to get some of her grandson s diapers which were the right size. That is truly caring for your patient and their family s needs. Great job! ~ from a coworker

4 May 26, PILLAR AWARD WINNERS SERVICE PILLAR ~ T.J. Temple QUALITY PILLAR ~ Treda Traw, LPN Nominated by John Wilcox I would like to nominate TJ Temple for the Service award. TJ is widely recognized throughout the OMC organization as someone who excels in providing customer service. He is respected by his team, his peers, senior leadership, and physicians. TJ is always focused on what is in the best interests of OMC as he serves. He is known to sacrifice his own interests in order to keep hospital operations running smoothly. When I first arrived at OMC, people would routinely communicate to me that TJ should be awarded perpetual MVP. After serving with him for two years now, I whole heartedly agree. He leads by example, always! Nominated by Wanda Roark Treda Traw has been an LPN for over 25 years. Glennette Haney calls Treda her right hand when it comes to triaging patients. Treda is the Mary Poppins of this century she is firm but with just enough sugar to make the patients and staff want to do what she is asking. Treda adapts to the patient s needs, will flex hours or even take off if asked. She is what a good nurse looks and acts like at all times in all situations. VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR ~ David Kirk COMMUNITY PILLAR ~ Mike Ross, CRNA Nominated by Dr. Rodney Zimbelman Mike Ross, CRNA has been at OMC for almost 30 years. Mr. Kirk served as a school teacher and administrator for many years before becoming a volunteer here at OMC. Serving our patients and employees here at OMC since 2010, Mr. Kirk marks a superior example of selfless, compassionate dedication to serving our community. He has spent his life giving to the community through educating our youth and now serving us here at OMC. You will never find him without a welcoming smile and a warm greeting. Often times staying late into the evening to ensure all of her work is complete, she strives to make OMC the best place to work and to receive care. Relationships are very important to her. If you have the privilege to call her a friend then you are indeed blessed. She is an inspiration to me and so many others. Always calm, cool and collected even in moments of great stress. She is a thinker - Angela thinks before she speaks, thinks before she acts, and thinks before she makes any decisions. She is fair, dependable, honest, and humble. Her contributions to the work place are immeasurable! You can t fake compassion - you either have it or you don t and Angela has it! She is great leader, role model, mother, wife, and friend. TB Screening & Fit Requirements Also, you are still expected to complete your annual TB screening and respiratory fit requirements in Employee Health during your month of hire. Benefits Program Errors Several coworkers have mentioned concerns that they have experienced with the benefits programs. During the transition of Third Party Administrators from BMI to Meritain, errors were made regarding how our OPHO network is set up. I am very sorry that co-workers and providers were left with unanswered questions, and (in some cases) incorrect information about their benefits eligibility and in-network payments. Several steps have been taken to address the issues: All claims for 2017 are being reprocessed by Meritain. o Some errors in the set-up of the network tiers resulted in incorrect processing during the January March time frame o Participation in OPHO was updated and corrected to insure that OPHO providers are in tier 1 o Reprocessing of claims was completed on April 28, 2017 Please note: You may have already received a corrected Explanation of Benefits for medical claims processed during the Jan-March timeframe. If you were impacted negatively by overpaying for a claim, your OPHO provider will be refunding you in a prompt manner over the next few weeks as the adjustments are assessed. The Summary Plan Description has been posted on the Benefits portal At this time, Cox is not participating in the Aetna network. OMC is negotiating with Cox to include them in our benefits plans. We will provide periodic updates as those negotiations continue. If you have questions or need additional information, you can call or me, you can call or our Truss representatives Marita (mgeist@trussadvantage.com ) or Adam (akroeger@trussadvantage.com ), or call or Felicia Armades x5843.
