The chaplain is responsible for organizing groups of different faith to offer services to the inmate population and is an important liaison to jail administration regarding any religious needs of the inmates. The chaplain performs any religious services that are required at the jail as well. Dougherty recognized Metzger s years of service at an Oct. 24 meeting of jail clergy at St. Mary s Church in Geneseo and presented him with a commemorative plaque bearing the following inscription. In Honor of Your Dedication and Years of Loyal Service Paul Metzger Jail Chaplain Having served in the capacity as Jail Chaplain for nearly 40 years, being an integral part of jail ministry for well over 40 years and having served three Sheriffs you have undoubtedly touched the lives of thousands of inmates and staff. Your dedication, loyalty and contributions to the County of Livingston and the Sheriff s Office will not be forgotten. Presented this October 24, 2017 by Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty on behalf of the men and women of the Livingston County Sheriff s Office with appreciation and fondness. (Source: Livingston County News, November 1, 2017)
