OMCNews The Right Care, Right Here October 2, 2015 First Day on the Job Shirley Arnold s first day at her new job of Courtesy Shuttle Driver was Monday, September 28.

We have a beautiful, bright green, six-passenger golf cart manned by volunteers that can bring people to and from the parking lot, and the nearby clinics. Their cell phone number is 293-4731.

This is the time for family gatherings with a lot of food and celebration. However, for some that have experienced a recent loss, this time of the year might not seem as special anymore.

Their cell phone number is They will be available Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Community OMC Riverways to host Handling the Holidays program For those who have lost a loved one Fall is here and the holidays are approaching. This is the time for family gatherings with a lot of food and celebration. However, for some that have experienced a recent loss, this time of the year might not seem as special anymore. Ozarks Medical Center Riverways will host a memorial program, Handling the Holidays, from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, October 22, in the Willard Hunter Classroom, located in the OMC Parkway Center off Porter Wagoner Boulevard. The program is open to anyone in the community who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Our guest speaker is Registered Dietician Waynita Cahoj, said Erin Honeyfield with OMC Riverways Hospice. The grieving process can be a difficult time and not eating well can make you feel worse. This program will include information about cooking simple, fast, healthy meals, as well as how to cook for the holidays. The event will include drinks and snacks. 2 October 2, People The Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF), the only professional society for healthcare food and nutrition professionals in self-operated facilities, will celebrate Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week October I would like to add a personal thank you to my team for all the great progress we have made over the past year, said Michael Kenny, Food Director at OMC. We have seen a huge increase in café sales, numerous outstanding catering events, and an increase in patient satisfaction scores. Without the great attitude, dedication, and teamwork of the Food employees none of this would have been possible. Kenny would also like to remind everyone to thank the food service workers for all they do. The Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week tradition was started in 1985 by a legacy association that is now part of the Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF). Through their efforts the U.S. Congress declared that the first week of each October would be a national time to recognize the integral role that foodservice staff have in helping the employees and patients of healthcare facilities stay well-nourished and healthy. Today the importance of excellent nutrition has been established and documented, but it is even more critical to those individuals in healthcare facilities. This week is an excellent opportunity to recognize and thank those dedicated individuals who provide food and nutrition services in healthcare. Foodservice and nutrition professionals in healthcare play a vital role in maintaining the well-being of our patients, said Randy Sparrow, President of AHF. We rely on our foodservice professionals to create and deliver meals that are flavorful and nutritious. Healthcare Foodservice Workers Week is our way to say thank you to the many dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to provide comfort to our patients. I am in nursing school and we sometimes have clinicals at the ER at OMC and there is a wonderful nurse there named Beth (Elizabeth). I spent one day with her and I was immediately reminded of why I want to be a nurse and why I m going to school in the first place. She made it my best clinical experience ever! Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with her!!! Jamie Scarbrough Hello, I had a procedure done recently and had to spend the night in the OB dept. I just wanted to say that everyone that dealt with any aspect of my stay there were absolutely amazing! I was so nervous about my procedure but the nurses in pre-op helped me feel comfortable and even had me laughing. Once I was up in OB the nurses up there blew me away. They had so much compassion and wanted to help in anyway they could. Thank you for making a very scary and emotional time for me a lot better. Three patients from OMC ALS Treatment Center participated in the ALS Walk in Sringfield, with one even cutting the ribbon to begin the walk. Madison s grandmother recently lost her battle with cancer. This speaks volumes of the love and compassion Dr. Morgan has for his patients.

Tourniquet Use Unlike B/P cuffs, which are typically used on intact skin, tourniquets are intended to be used for venous draws and access and are therefore assumed to be contaminated after use, even if no visible blood is present. Additionally, they are listed by the manufacturer as single patient use only items, so there is no acceptable method of disinfection between patients. Please make sure that all staff are aware, and that you have adequate tourniquets available for venipunctures in your area without re-using.
