Vikki is an extremely versatile singer, singing Rock, Pop, Country, R&B, Jazz, and Gospel. Her favorite is R&B with a little South Louisiana flavor. Besides her versatility, one of the first things you notice about her is her big voice. She has been asked many times, How does such a big voice come out of a little person? She always replies, It s a Louisiana thing! We do everything large in Louisiana, from the food to the music, everything big. Born in Port Barre, a small town in South Louisiana, she grew up surrounded and influenced by the talent of legendary musicians such as Vikki s Great Grandfather Dean of Cajun Music Dennis Mc- Gee; Great Uncle Gerry McGee-Singer/Songwriter Pictured, front row, from left: Eric Judd, Senior Vice President/Chief Loan Officer; Ward Franz, Executive Director of the OMC Foundation; David M. Gohn, President/Chief Operating Officer; Courtney Judd, Loan Assistant. and Guitarist for the Ventures; the legendary guitarist and entertainer, Ronnie Brumley; Ted Broussard, one of Louisiana s greatest Guitarist; and Uncle Randy James, powerhouse acoustic man; are all strong musical influences. Many other entertainers have inspired her song writing and style of music: Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Bessie Smith, Eva Cassidy, Patsy Cline, Eric Clapton, Merle Haggard, Delbert McClinton, Otis Redding, and Ray Charles. Vikki has performed with and led numerous bands such as Louisiana Fire, Uptown Express, and is currently leading her own. 3 August 26, Service Review received on OMC Facebook I couldn t have asked for better care in an emergency situation! OMC got me in, calmed me and my family down and took wonderful care of us! Dr. Crowe was amazing and my night nurse was double amazing! I really cannot express how grateful I am for the knowledgable, caring staff! Thank you so much for taking care of my children and me!! Sincerely, Thank you s received via OMC Website This message is sent to thank all of the nurses and administration of OMC Riverways. My wife has had excellent help and attention. Thanks to all. Thank you for everything. I would like to thank and show appreciation to the following people who helped with my grandson s care. Thank you to the ED staff for doing a great job collecting a quick cath. To lab, really showing compassion and doing a excellent job of collecting blood. Whitney and Rebekka (I apologize if I misspelled your name Rebekka). I would also like to thank the 2 South nurses and CNAs. An Example of Compassionate Care Mark Noon with Studer Just a Missouri girl headed home from vacation Group was talking with us this week about addressing patients concerns. Often patients present with a chief complaint and the complaint may not be their biggest concern. Their biggest concern could easily be a personal matter. Recently a patient was very upset and didn t want to be admitted. The ED Charge Nurse followed the patient out of the hospital as the patient was going to leave against medical advice. She sat on the curb with the patient and listened to his concern. He was worried about his two beloved pets and how they would be cared for during his hospitalization. The Charge Nurse offered to care for the dogs and take them to her own home while he was hospitalized. Because of her compassion and taking an extra moment with the patient, he returned to the ED and was admitted. Not only did the Charge Nurse provide service recovery but showed an example of exceptional, compassionate patient care. Thanks for all you do! Kurt Abbey, CNO Father, bless the men and women that are serving this Great Nation, both here at home and overseas. Watch over them and keep them safe. Be with the ones that do service in this hospital, Lord. Work through their hands O Lord as they go about tending to those in need of their care. Give them knowledge and peace as they work to make people whole once again, In Jesus name, Amen. Weekly Prayer brought to you by the OMC Chaplains August 26, Generations of Nursing at OMC Nursing runs in the family with these three nurses who work at Ozarks Medical Center (OMC). Rufina Falwell had been a stay-at-home mom, raising two daughters and a son. Once my children got a little older, it just hit me I could go to school, said Rufina. God called me into nursing. Rufina started taking classes at South Central Career Center and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She began working at OMC in October of 1984 on the Med/Surg floor. Rufina wanted to continue her education and went back to school at Missouri State University-West Plains while continuing to work. She became a Registered Nurse Pictured left to right: Rufina Falwell, Cindy Wilson, and Briawna Wilson. (RN) in Rufina currently works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at OMC. She remembers working in the old ICU that was only a 4-bed unit. I was working on Mother s Day in It was the day we moved into the new ICU. We took one patient with us. The current ICU at OMC is a 12-bed unit and usually has a census of 8 to 10 patients. Daughter Cindy was a senior at West Plains High School taking health occupation classes when mom Rufina was in LPN school. Cindy and her sister, Sheila, helped around the house so Rufina had time to study. I liked being around people and taking care of them, too, Cindy said. Those qualities transferred to a love of nursing. Cindy completed LPN school in 1986 and began working at OMC in Currently, Cindy works in the GI Lab, a section of the hospital that at one time housed the OB Department. Cindy works in the room that she was born in, says Rufina. Like mom Cindy, Briawna started earning her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) while at West Plains High School. Watching grandma and mom, I knew how much they loved their careers. It wasn t until I became a CNA and actually began working in the field, that I knew it was what I wanted to do, too, Briawna said. Briawna began working at OMC in She is now an RN after completing her LPN in 2014 and her RN in Briawna primarily works on the Medical/ Surgical floor, but sometimes works in ICU, too. All three agree that they work with an exceptional staff. We are all like family, Rufina said. After working as a CNA, Briawna especially wants to commend OMC s CNAs. They get overlooked sometimes. In their spare time, Rufina enjoys antiquing, bird watching and taking care of her grandkids. Cindy shares her mom s love of antiquing and also enjoys reading. Briawna enjoys reading, too, and shopping, traveling and spending time with friends and family. When asked if she could think of any special patients or stories of her 32 years of service at OMC, Rufina said, All of my patients are special. The best thing about nursing is that you get to become acquainted with your patients and their families. Rufina is not planning to retire anytime soon. I am going to work as long as I m able.
