Adults who routinely work with 4-H members in clubs, projects, etc. need to undergo the volunteer screening process, as is policy of the Purdue Extension and the Indiana 4-H Program. If you have not completed this annual process, you are not officially a Purdue Extension/4-H volunteer and will not be eligible for reduced-rate fair passes. Questions? Contact Laura at the Extension Office at H Adult Leaders Meeting The 4-H Adult Leaders will meet on Tuesday, September 8th. The Executive Committee will meet at 6:30 pm and the general meeting will be at 7:00 pm. Both meetings will be held at the Porter County Administration Building in Room H Council Meeting The next 4-H Council meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15th. The Executive Committee will meet at 6:30 pm and the general meeting will take place at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the Porter County Administration Building Room 102A. The 4-H Council Executive Committee will meet on October 20th at 6:00 pm in the Extension Office. 2 4-H News READ YOUR 4-H PUBLICATIONS! Many of your 4-H questions can be answered by reading your 4-H Pandemonium newsletter, your Porter County 4-H Handbook and project materials, and checking out the website by clicking on 4-H Youth Development at Show your 4-H Pride! Help us spread the word that 4-H enrollment is now underway, stop by our office and pick up a yard sign to put in your yard. All we ask is that you take good care of it and put it out again every enrollment season or return it to the office for safe keeping after enrollment season. Rising Star, Junior Achievement Ambassador, & Achievement Ambassador Nomination/Application forms for Rising Star, Junior Ambassador, and Ambassador are available on the County 4-H website at Completed forms will be due back in the Extension Office by September 25th. Read on for more details about the awards 4-H RISING STAR AWARD: This award is for 4-H members who have completed grades 3, 4, 5, or 6. Members must be nominated by their 4-H Club Leader on a form which is available on-line or at the Extension Office. If you're interested in the award, don't be afraid to let your Club Leader know. There is no limit to the number of 4-Hers who can receive the "4-H Rising Star" award each year. Members may be nominated to receive the award each year they are eligible. Recipients of the award will receive a 4-H gift at the fall Achievement Day. 4-H JUNIOR AMBASSADOR AWARD: This award is for 4-H members who have completed grades 7, 8, or 9 and have completed at least two years of 4-H. Members must apply for this award on an application form that is available on-line or at the Extension Office. Members may reapply for the award each year they are eligible. First-time recipients of the award will receive a chenille 4-H patch (letter jacket style) at Achievement Day. Second and third-time recipients will receive a 4-H gift as well. Individuals who are named Junior Ambassadors are encouraged to volunteer to assist with various 4-H activities and events at the following year's Porter County Fair. 4-H ACHIEVEMENT AMBASSADOR AWARD: This award is for 4- H members who have completed grades 10 or 11, completed at least four years of 4-H, and have one year of 4-H eligibility remaining (i.e., you must be enrolled in 4-H during the 2011 fair season). Two "Achievement Ambassadors", two "Reserve Ambassadors", and no more than six additional members of the "Achievement Board" will be selected from those who complete the application process. The application process includes submission of an application form and a letter of reference, as well as participation in an interview with the Ambassador judges. Individuals who are named to the Achievement Board will be expected to assist with various 4-H activities and events in the year ahead, particularly at the Porter County Fair. Last Chance Exhibit Pick-Up Your last chance to pick up fair exhibits will be Monday, September 21st at 6:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building. Please RSVP at the following site to let us know that we can expect 4-H families that night. The site will also send you a reminder two days prior so you don t forget! Please understand that we don t have the space at our real office to store unclaimed exhibits, and that we are not regularly at the fairgrounds. 4-H FUN-a-thon Pledges Health to Better Living The Discovery Trackers held their Fun-a-thon on August 9 around the square in Chesterton. The weather stayed cool and clear so they logged 191 total miles! Participants included 11 Trackers, Cameron and his dog Angelo from the Positive Peers 4-H Club, Sgt. Alfaro of the Chesterton Police Department, Tracker friends, parents and siblings; in all 23 people and 1 dog. Trackers would like to thank Emma Ekblaw and her Fun-a-thon committee! The Burke family of Illiana Basement Waterproofing "Stop leaks before they go from a nuisance to a disaster!" was the water sponsor and kept participants hydrated all day. The participating 4-H member with the most total pledges collected by the September 1st Tracker meeting will receive a FREE ride wristband for the 2016 Porter County Fair and the first jar of honey from the Tracker beehive. Project News SUPERINTENDENT NEEDED: Drawing The painting and drawing projects have grown immensely in the past several years, and we are dividing responsibilities! We will need a superintendent for the Drawing project. Do you have an interest in drawing and would be willing to work with members and be present for exhibit check-in, judging, and check-out, you may be the right person for this superintendent position. If you re interested, please contact Laura at Club News Center Wildcats We began the July meeting with our annual potluck dinner. Then we opened the meeting with the usual committee reports. We also talked about the Coin bank contest, ordering new T-shirts, and signing up for Clover Cafe and Building Watch. We also planned new committees. After that, we did officer speeches and voted on the slate of officers for the coming year. Then we had the usual health and safety reports, this time on melons and kite safety. We had Senior speeches and announcements. Finally, we adjourned the meeting and had our traditional Water Balloon Volleyball Tournament! Submitted by, Luke Trujillo, Center Wildcats Reporter

3 Porter County 4-H Council Minutes June 16, 2015 ATTENDEES: Matt Wellsand, Michelle Strader, Ben Wilson, Danielle Wilson, Randi Webber, Jeff Russell, Paula Shreve, Steve Webber, Kurt O Connor, Kyle Stowers, Brooke Sauter, Sandi Russell, Janice Denham, Scott Krzyzanowski, Steve Wilder, Peter Wilder, Janenne Stuber, Tamra Wells, Annette Hansen, Jayne Watkin and Joan Grott. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President Matt Wellsand at the County Administration Building. PLEDGES: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Randi Webber and the 4-H Pledge was led by Kyle Stowers. AGENDA APPROVAL: The following was added under Unfinished Business: Club signage and grants. The following was added under New Business: REMC, carnival tickets, 4-H Hustle and Volunteer Dinner. Kurt O Connor made a motion to accept the amended agenda. Randi Webber seconded. Motion carried. MINUTES APPROVAL: The minutes from the May 17, H Council meeting were published in the June Pandemonium. Janenne Stuber made a motion to accept the May minutes. Paula Shreve seconded. Motion carried. TREASURER S REPORT: Paula Shreve reviewed the budget with the membership. She noted the geranium money, license plate proceeds and Monsanto grant were all received. Randi Webber mentioned that due to her pregnancy, Jeff Russell was approached about adding him to the Treasurer team. He will finish off the year by being added as a signer to all checks. Annette Hansen made a motion to accept the Treasurer s Report and the addition of Jeff Russell. Brooke Sauter seconded. Motion carried. EXTENSION REPORTS JUNIOR LEADERS: Brooke Sauter reported that elections were held at their last meeting and she was elected as President. They will have an outing on June 17 at the 49-er drive-in. Their last Executive meeting included discussion of the remainder of the year and to get new members acclimated. ADULT LEADERS: Sandi Russell reported that the Adult Leaders donated $100 to the 4-H 4 mile Hustle, leaders reminded all to read pandemonium, drop/add deadline was June 1, and their next meeting is September 8, AG SOCIETY: Matt Wellsand reported that maintenance projects are being completed. EXTENSION BOARD: No business to report. EXTENSION EDUCATOR: Joan Grott reported that 4-H Camp was sold out and Purdue workshops will be starting soon. Due to the Board of Animal Health s ban of poultry at the fair, educational displays and posters will be encouraged for this year and updates on events will be given as more information becomes available. Sponsors of this year s 4-H 4 mile Hustle include: Family Express, Extra Mile Fitness, Fair Board, O Connor Builders, Birky s and Kohl s. Randi Webber made a motion for the 4-H Council to donate $500 to the 4-H 4 mile Hustle to be used towards 4-H promotional items in the gift bags. Sandi Russell seconded. Motion carried. Matt reported that cleaning day at the fair is July 11 th. COMMITTEE REPORTS EXECUTIVE: Matt Wellsand reported that the committee met prior to the meeting and more will be discussed under Unfinished Business and New Business AWARDS: Matt Wellsand noted that the committee met in April and will meet again in the fall for banquet awards. BUDGET: No business to report.

4 WAYS & MEANS: Geraniums Ben and Danielle Wilson reported the sale went well. Prizes will be awarded to the top sellers and a pizza party for the top club will be reimbursed up to $200 by the 4-H Council. Sandi Russel made a motion to reimburse clubs 10 cents per plant sold and 25 cents per basket sold. Janenne Stuber seconded. Motion carried. Randi Webber made a motion to have the pizza party reimbursement a yearly budgeted item. Jeff Russell seconded Motion carried. Clover Café Clubs need to sign up to work at Clover Café at fair. Wreaths Nothing to report. CONSTITUTION: No business to report. EXPANSION & REVIEW: Sandi Russell reported that there is a possibility of a Superintendent for a new Robotics Project. Joan Grott reported that the Project of Year superintendents should look for awards for their members and the Archery project received donations. 4-H FOUNDATION: Ben Wilson reported there are 4-H Foundation scholarships available. NOMINATING: Matt Wellsand reported that nominations will take place in November. Anyone interested in running for office should talk to him. PUBLIC RELATIONS & PROMOTIONS: Annette Hansen reported if clubs are participating in different events (parades, etc.) that Laura in the main office has a template for cards to hand out. A special table will be set up at the fair for information/questionnaires. A discussion was held about a prize raffle for volunteers at the fair. MAKING THE BEST BETTER: No business to report. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Discussion was held to have a form available for projects and/or clubs to request disbanded clubs money as a grant proposal. Annette Hansen made a motion to accept. Motion carried. It was also discussed that Annette Hansen will get a template and quotes prepared for the purchase of signs or pennants to promote all 4-H clubs at the 4-H Building and the Show Arena at the fair. NEW BUSINESS: It was noted that carnival wristbands will be available online through the fair website. The 10-year member recognition breakfast will be July 8 at Suzie s Café. It was discussed that different ideas or a plan should be made for the uses of the REMC donation. Ideas that were mentioned were for educational displays or towards the purchase of the new gates in the animal barns/show arena. Discussion was held about how to recognize volunteers. Ideas that were mentioned were fair passes, gift certificates, or an ice cream social. Joan Grott also brought up the new online system to register projects. It is not mandatory and it is being worked on to streamline, but every effort should be made to try to use the system. Discussion was also held about having a 4-H stencil and locking system on new chairs in 4-H Building and the possible rental of 4-H Building for events throughout the year. The heart of Belonging Learn how to guide youth in developing a list of club or group expectations that accommodates all members, to support youth with special needs, and discover resources to help you in your role as a caring adult. Leave with activities that will help you foster positive behavior, belonging, and inclusion in your club! The heart of Community Volunteers in this session will be prepared to help youth find their voices as they become actively engaged in their communities. The session will include resources and models to incorporate mastery, belonging, generosity, and independence as you include citizenships activities in 4-H settings. 7 Indiana 4-H Livestock Volunteer Conference The Indiana 4-H Livestock Volunteer Conference is designed for existing county 4-H volunteers that are involved in livestock that are interested in learning more about designing educational opportunities for 4-H members that are age-appropriate, hands-on and fun. Additionally, learn how to incorporate all three 4-H missions (Science, Citizenship and Healthy Living) into livestock club meetings and workshops. The state fair grooming rule will be updated to include 4-H volunteers that attend this conference. Participants will be able to assist 4-H members from the county in which they are a volunteer. This conference is for current, county-approved 4-H volunteers for the H program year. For lunch and facility purposes, registration is due one week prior to each respective event.
