2 CYC Notes Hello 4-H friends, families, and guests! The weather is changing which means fair time will be here soon! Remember to be working with your livestock and animals, as well on projects for the exhibit building. Also, be watching for upcoming summer trips, workshops, and camps to attend. This newsletter is packed FULL of information. Please make sure to read it through carefully! Hannah Wilson, County Youth Coordinator There will be a special livestock newsletter coming out this month in regards to upcoming weigh-in s, county fair, and state fair rules. If you plan on applying for financial assistance through the Iowa 4-H Foundation all applications are due by April 25 to the Wayne County Extension Office. This refers to any Iowa 4-H event, activity, or summer camp. Please visit or contact Hannah Wilson for more information! It s time to celebrate! 2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of the Wayne County Extension Office. Be on the lookout for upcoming details for the ceremony on Wednesday, July 25th at the Wayne County Fair Grounds! 4-H Animal Identification Now available on 4HOnline. All animal Identifications must be submitted no later than May 15th, 11:59 p.m. Families are not able to enter information for any weighed-in animals (mkt. beef, sheep, meat goats & swine). 3 June 2018 Summer Day Camps-Wayne County Expand My World Grades Completed K-3 (limit of 12 youth per location) What better way to spend the day than traveling the world! Through charming picture books and engaging activities children will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of languages, traditions, games, music, dance and cultural culinary from around the world. Monarchs on the Move Grades Completed 4-8 (limit of 16 youth per location) Experience life as a monarch butterfly in the Monarchs on the Move day camp. In this camp you ll need to get food as a caterpillar, make a chrysalis, and fly to find habitat to live in as an adult. Learn about the biology and importance of the monarch butterfly and how they are in danger. Explore ways to help the monarch by increasing habitat. Find out what you can do help the monarch. Iowa 4-H Youth Conference Every June, almost 900 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities. If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! 10 Save the Date: CAMP WILD June 11-13, 2018 Take a ride on the "WILD side and mark your calendars to attend Camp Wild, June 11-13, 2018 at Camp Clover Woods near Madrid, Iowa. Camp Wild is offered for youth completing grades 5, 6, and 7 in Spring Experience adventure and excitement during three days filled with 4-H camp traditions and favorite activities, including nature hikes, challenge course, creek walk, rock wall, archery, swimming, camp songs, crafts, and campfires. Bring a friend with you, and make new ones while you are there too! Registration Deadline will be May 15, Register before May 1, 2018 to secure your spot, and receive our $200 registration early bird price. Registration costs $220 after May 1 and before May 15. No registrations will be accepted after May 15, Click here to register today! Make sure to check with your County Extension Office, as many have financial assistance for 4-H members attending camp! 11 4-H Summer Program Assistant Position The 4-H Summer Program Assistant is responsible to support summer programming in the 4-H Youth Development Program in Wayne County, Iowa. Apply by sending cover letter, resume, application, and 3 professional references. $10 per hour, approximately 24 hours per week, total of hours May through August, flexibility in hours is required to meet position demands. Must be 18 years or older, ability to lift 25 pounds, valid driver s license and reliable transportation, ability to pass a background check, attend a day training May 14th, required. Goat and Sheep Weigh-In Sunday, May 6th at the Wayne County Fairgrounds from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. All Iowa State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben meat goats and sheep the State Fair identification process will include the animal s weight, retinal image scan and ear tag numbers (official tattoo for does). The County Youth Coordinator will be entering this information following weigh-in. The cost for a retinal scan is $5.00 per animal.
