Senior Seminar Students: Your two 2nd trimester assignments are due to Mrs. Ellis (rm 1448) no later than Wednesday, March 2nd. REMINDER: The Testing Center is open from 2:50 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through the end of the trimester. Senior Seminar, Co-op, Mentoring and Internship students may test during 1 st or 5 th period (beginning during D lunch) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well. Be sure you have made arrangements for a ride you may not be able to complete your assessment by the late bus bell. Please also be sure you have a PICTURE ID for check in. 2 FBI Youth Leadership Academy (YLA): The Summer YLA is an educational experience that provides students with valuable leadership training and a greater understanding of the FBI. Through experiential learning activities, students will develop skills in communication, trust, team work, goal setting and leadership. This residential event hosted at Bradford Woods, Indiana University s experiential learning center located just south of Mooresville, starts July 13 at 9:00 a.m. and ends July 15 at 11:00 a.m... Participants must: be current Juniors (member of the graduating class of 2017); have a GPA of at least 3.0; possess qualities of leadership, scholastic achievement and good citizenship; and commit to attending the entire three day program. If interested, visit Mr. Frederick (room 1224) to receive an application. The application includes a 500 word essay in which the applicant must depict his/her interest in the program and how it will enhance his/her future plans. Applications must be mailed and received by Friday, April 1, Twenty students from across the state will be selected to participate by the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association. There is no cost for students to participate; lodging and all meals are included. Students must arrange their own transportation if selected. The Westfield High School Junior-Senior Prom Committee is holding a fundraiser on Monday, February 29 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please be sure to turn in a flyer when you pay at BoomBozz Pizza and Westfield High School will receive 15 percent of your check to help with the cost of Prom tickets! Flyers can be picked up at the Information Desk or on the WHS Facebook and twitter pages. Take this opportunity to treat your family and friends to social hour and dinner. Social hour prices apply to dine-in orders only and are from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Carryout ordering is available. Thank you for your support! 3 CLUB AND ACTIVITIES NEWS: On April 15, 2016, Amnesty International is holding a dodgeball tournament to raise money for Amnesty International and a local charity. The form packets can be found in the Club Hub. These forms are due back to Mrs. Knight by March 15. Be sure to get your forms in early because there is a maximum of 16 teams. It costs $60 dollars per team, and each team requires at least 6 people. The winners get to pick the local charity that receives a donation. Anyone interested in the Board Game competition must come to the Learning Center and sign up for a slot to present an idea. See Mr. Bruns by Friday for details. Girls Matter: Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 1st. We're going to work on tiles and future plans for trimester 3. WHS Key Club is sponsoring a Bowl-a-thon on March 12th at Bowl 32 in Noblesville to raise money for Relay for Life and everyone is invited! Tickets are $20, but high school students can get TWO tickets for $32! Each ticket includes 2 games of bowling, shoe rental, a piece of pizza, and a soft drink. This is a great deal and supports a great cause! Tickets will be sold during lunch from February 24 - March 4. See Mrs. Bever in room 2326 with questions. The next all member Key Club meeting is Thursday March 3rd during period 6 in the Learning Center. This is our last meeting before the Bowlathon. Please plan to be there!! ATHLETICS: Girls Tennis conditioning is canceled TODAY! Next Tuesday our Rocks boys basketball team will play the Fishers Tigers in the first round of sectionals at 7pm at Noblesville High School. The Rocks defeated the Tigers by one point just two weeks ago and are looking forward to another great game. Hope to see everybody at Noblesville next week cheering on the Rocks to a sectional victory. Sectional season tickets are available at the Athletic Office for $10 each until Tuesday, March 1st at noon. Single game tickets can be purchased at the door for $6 per game. Are you ready for some VOLLEYBALL? Student Impact Volleyball Registration will be in the cafeteria during all lunches starting Tuesday, February 16 th and ending Thursday, March 3 rd. Players must be in 9-12th grade and able to attend a Westfield Washington School, but can be home schooled or in private school to play. The fee is $50 per player. Evaluations are March 3rd at 7pm in the MPIF. Each night will be a practice for one hour and games for one hour on the following dates starting at 6:30pm: March 8, March 15, March 22, March 24, March 29, April 12, April 14, April 19, April 21, April 26 and the tournament on April 28. 4 SCHOOL COUNSELING CENTER: Seniors! There are a great number of scholarships listed in Naviance and some deadlines are quickly approaching! Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) has numerous scholarships available to high school seniors (1 specific to WHS seniors) and is just 1 application. That is due Tuesday, March 1st! Also, the Westfield Education Foundation scholarships were just posted; again, eight scholarships with 1 application. Check out the list in Naviance today! The following College Visits are during 6 th period and open to any student in grades 9-12; 11 th & 12 th graders please sign up in Naviance: IUPUI March 29 th During the day on March 16th, WHS will host our Spring Shamrock Rep Day during 3rd period open to sophomores and juniors. More details to come! On the evening of March 16 th, students have an opportunity to take advantage of the Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair to be held at the Ritz Charles in Carmel from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by a consortium of high schools on Indy s Northside as a way to provide access to college information for local students. Over 100 colleges/universities will be represented at the fair! The event is free, and students in all grade levels are welcome to attend. PARENTS: There will be a PTO Coffee with Dr. McGuire on Tuesday, March 29 th from 8 9am in the Learning Center. Please check in at the front desk. The WHS PTO is participating in the Marsh Cares fundraising program from February 25th - 27th. This is a great way to support the PTO by simply shopping at Marsh just show this form either on your phone or by printing it out. Great News! We have a new way for you to support WHS PTO and best news of all? It isn't going to cost you a dime!! If you shop at Kroger all you have to do is to link your Kroger Plus card to the WHS PTO community rewards account and then every time you shop at Kroger and show your Kroger Plus card you'll be helping out your PTO. Go to: krogercommunityrewards.com The Westfield Washington Schools Selection Committee for the Westfield High School Alumni Hall of Fame is now accepting applications. This award honors Westfield High School alumni whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life s work and/or service to their communities. An honoree s spirit and leadership are worthy of recognition and have inspired praise and gratitude among his or her peers. The application deadline is March 15,

5 2016, and the Hall of Fame recipient will be honored at the spring WHS Seniors Award Night at the close of the school year.
