From 5pm-7pm at the Youth Expo grounds each club will be present to talk with new members and present opportunities and show projects that 4-H has to offer. If you know of new families that are interested in 4-H this will be a great event for them to come to and talk with club leaders and find out more about 4-H. The flyer is attached to hand out to any families that might be interested in 4-H! In case of rain this will be held in the Auxvasse Elementary School! The horse show at 7pm has been cancelled. This will count towards your member in good standing as working a county wide event. Please call Sarah at the extension office if you can help. Jobs needed: If the event is outside: 3:00pm-5:00pm need 5 adults and 5 kids to help get nachos ready, cut desserts, and check bathrooms 5:00pm-7:00pm need 5 adults and 5 kids to help serve nachos, drinks and desserts, and check bathrooms 5:00pm-7:00pm need 2-3 kids at each club booth to answer questions and show off their projects that they brought, and help their club leader as needed 7:00pm-9:00pm-need 4 adults and 5 kids to clean up kitchen, check for trash in the barns, clean the bathrooms and help as needed families to bring one pan of brownies or 1-2 doz. large cookies Sarah Rohrbach rohrbachs@missouri.edu Callaway County 4-H Youth Program Assistant callaway/4h.aspx If the event is inside: No food or drink can be brought into the gym so we will only need workers to help at their club tables. 2 September 11, 2017 Awards See attached information about the awards that are offered for filling out the Missouri Recognition Form and Project Reports. MO Recognition Forms & Project Record Reports-Due October 3, 2017 to the extension office. Officers Books/Reports & County Leader & Volunteer Reports-Due October 10, 2017 to the extension office. Anyone can nominate a leader or volunteer. County Happenings Committees-These are being formed for some of our county wide events. Contact Sarah at the extension office to see how you can help for the coming 4-H year. The following county wide fundraising events have been approved for the year ***The amount of kids/adults needed for each event are rough numbers taken from last years events. Each event will be around 2 hour shifts, the CYE food booth may be longer depending on the times it is open. Please let Sarah know if you are an adult or teen and would like to be on a committee(s) to help organize an event. 3 September 11, 2017 Projects Our new 4-H year starts October 1! If you know you would like to be project leader this year for your club or county wide let Sarah or your club leader know. It is always nice to know what projects might be available before sign up begins. Aquaculture project New project for Callaway County to be led by Jim Wetzel Professor of Aquaculture at Lincoln University. Meetings will start the middle of October with a field trip likely in November. Aquaculture-What is aquaculture? Aquaculture is the controlled to semicontrolled production of aquatic organisms. We will be developing 4-H projects that can be done indoors using aquariums or tanks as well as cages in ponds.your club leader has the full description of the project or it can be ed to you. Ham Leaders-Carson Humphreys would like to have a meeting with all ham leaders before starting the project this fall. (examples: posters, cake decorating, foods, photography) Callaway Youth Expo Fair Checks There are still a few checks to be picked up. These checks are void on November 3, H online will be down the month of September for maintenance. No enrollment or event registration will be available during this time! Callaway County 4-H programs receive financial support from the Callaway County United Way.

4 September 11, 2017 Fall paper clover drive October These funds help go to camp scholarships! Donate $1 for each clover. Regional Happenings Silver Dollar City- 4-H Day at Silver Dollar City will be Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9:30am-6:00pm. See Aug. 28 newsletter for the form. Livestock Judging Clinic-There will be a livestock judging clinic at Truman State University on September 30, See attached flyer. State Happenings Volunteers-New for this year. Most returning volunteers will be screened every other year. When you re-enroll online it will prompt you to fill out a background screen form only if necessary. See attached form. If your club is interested the form needs to be submitted by the end of the week. State Dues-Those needing help paying $20 state dues for the H year and have Missouri Care Insurance can call and request a voucher. The voucher should be filled out by the family and dropped off at the Callaway Extension Office and then will be mailed to the state office. Global Education-Check out our website for summer 2018 opportunities to have an experience with a host family for 3 weeks in Japan, Korea, Costa Rica or Norway. Application deadline is November 1. Details are included on our updated flyers under Opportunities Outside 4-H Science on Wheels-will be held at the Callaway County Extension Office on Sept. 21 at 6pm. See flyer in the August newsletter. Trick Riding Horse Clinic-The clinic is Saturday, October 7th in Greentop, MO. See attached flyer. Like us at Callawayco4h! Youth Trapper Education Clinic-Saturday, October 21 at Whetstone Conservation Area in Williamsburg, MO. See attached flyer. Hurricane Harvey-If you would like to give to the relief efforts for 4-H for Hurricane Harvey victim s please see attached flyer. The Callaway County Extension Council is looking for a 4-H member 14+ to be a part of their decision making. They meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm. The extension council is made up of members from various organizations and areas of Callaway County. The 4-H representative would listen to ideas of the council and bring ideas and suggestions to the table for council discussion. This would be a 1-2 year commitment. Must complete the following: 1)MO Recognition Form 2) Have graduated with accreditation from a high school or equivalent program. 3) Must submit a letter of acceptance from a university, college, or technical school. 4) Must submit a copy of an official high school transcript. 5) Must submit a letter of application stating goals and plan of action. 2-$250 scholarships or 1-$500 scholarship depending on applications 4-H Foundation Scholarships 4-Hers who are current high school seniors and form 4-Hers who are college students Must apply scholarship funds toward tuition at any postsecondary or technical school Guidelines and Appli cations can be found at the Missouri 4-H website recognition Monetary awards vary depending on the type of scholarship

7 COUNTY LEADER AND VOLUNTEER AWARDS These awards are given to leaders who meet the criteria for each award and are nominated by either members, club leaders, project leaders, parents or other interested individuals. If wanting to nominate a leader please fill out the Leader Nomination Form. First Year Man A male leader in his first year of leadership is eligible. Leadership roles eligible are project leader, club leader, activity leader and county 4-H Council committee member. First Year Woman A female leader in her first year of leadership is eligible. Leadership roles for consideration are the same as First Year Man. Project Leader of the Year Any project leader who has completed their project leader role is eligible. Club Leader of the Year Any club leader or assistant club leader is eligible for nomination. Expo Award Any 4-H volunteer involved in the Callaway Youth Expo is eligible. Teamwork Award Club leaders, project leaders, committee members or any other volunteers who work together as a team are eligible for this award. Special Award This award is designed to allow the Council to honor special volunteers who may not fit in the categories above. Nominate any individual, team, or business who you feel is especially deserving. Golden Circle Award Two awards are given to persons who have been nominated but did not receive the above awards. These are a special group of people that have been recognized by their peers. Club Leader nominations must be submitted by the 2nd Tuesday in October. ****Please fill out the leader award nomination form for these awards. Those awarded will receive a plaque and recognition at the annual Extension Dinner.
