Send newsletter submissions and photos to valley@uidaho.edu. Register for the New 4-H Year Online Welcome to a brand new 4-H year! New enrollment opens October 1st. Go to the 4-H online website at to re-enroll. If you are an existing 4-H youth and family, DO NOT create a new profile. Returning members enter your address and password previously used, select Family for role, then click login. Be sure to delete past projects if you are not re-enrolling in them. If you cannot remember your password, check I forgot my password and an message will be sent to the you entered. If this is your first time to enroll, you ll need to follow the instructions on the website page. All enrollments are considered pending and are not covered by insurance until payment of $20 for all members, any project, is received at the Extension Office. No fee for Cloverbuds, ages 5-7. Remember, for all leaders and volunteers enrolling, there is a short, but required, on-line minor protection training and a background check that will be required each year before you are accepted as a leader. Soil Conservation Speech Contest It s that time of the year again for the Conservation Speech Contest! The theme this year is We All Need Trees. All high school aged 4-H members are encouraged to enter this contest. This is a great opportunity for youth to have some extra experience speaking to the general public. Youth will be competing for cash prizes. First $50, Second $40, and Third $30 The Valley County Soil and Water Conservation District (Valley SWCD) contest will be held October 6th, at the Valley SWCD office at 209 N. Idaho Street in Cascade. The first place winner from each District will go on to the Division Level October 11 th for additional prizes. First place contestants at Division may participate at the state competition. The state contest is in November. Details of the contest including an application( for each District), rules and a sample of a judge s worksheet are available from the Extension Office or Valley County Soil and Water District. These forms consist of the Annual Summary Financial Report, Club Assets Dispersement Form, 4-H Club Materials & Equipment Inventory, and the 4-H Club Audit Form. These four forms, along with the September bank statement (if the club has a bank account) are due to the Extension Office by October 31st, whether the club has a bank account or owns any materials or equipment. Leaders can pick up blank forms in the Extension Office or can print them from the they will receive soon. Looking for updates on the happenings in Valley County 4-H? Please see the promo flyer on page 4 for more information and start spreading the word about this year s conference. The Teen Conference and Ambassador Steering Committees as well as the Idaho 4-H Teen Officers will all be joining us for the weekend to begin their event planning. Transportation is provided in the registration fee and registration will open Oct 3 rd in 4-H Online. Please contact Alysson Statz at astatz@uidaho.edu or phone for more information to participate in the great teen opportunity. Volunteers Needed for Event Steering Committees Idaho 4-H is looking for Southern District II representatives for the Ambassador and Teen Conference Planning Committees (youth and adults). This is a new opportunity to help improve and promote these events. Most meetings will be held via video conference. Youth and adults who have attended these conferences and are interested in helping to plan them should contact the Extension Office for more information. Full position descriptions and applications are available. If you have any questions, please contact Alysson at astatz@uidaho.edu or Cayuse Horseless Camp Cayuse Camp is an overnight horse experience without the horse! This camp is designed to bring FUN into the 4-H horse project while completing your CCS activities and getting a jumpstart on your horse project! Cayuse Camp is being offered by Payette County 4-H Horse Leaders and will be held again in the 4-H Building at New Plymouth at the Payette County Fairgrounds on December 9-10th. Camping fee $15.00, includes lodging, program materials & potato bar Friday night and Saturday breakfast/ lunch!! T-shirts are also available for $ Camp application must be postmarked no later than November 21, Send to Payette County Extension, PO Box 10, Payette, ID Make Checks payable to Payette County Extension. The Forum will kick-off with a local Taste of Harvest from local food producers. Forum activities this year include 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Certification Training, a Road Trip Tour, Robotics Workshop (adults only) and 7 different workshops. For the teens in addition to the workshops, there is a CSI Challenge Course and an evening of Knocker Balls from Bubble Ball Idaho.
