2 pre-conference program when the rubber meets the road breastfeeding difficulties in the mother-baby dyad MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2012 The Friday Center Registration time 8 am to 8:30 am Program time 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Purpose This workshop is designed to provide information and tools for experienced clinicians whose goal is to provide optimal breastfeeding care and support to families. Target Audience Lactation consultants, nurses, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, public health practitioners, midwives, health educators, doulas, peer counselors, breastfeeding support volunteers, physicians, physician assistants, chiropractors, speech pathologists and healthcare profession students Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Explain the functional difference between an anterior and posterior tongue-tie. Name the hormone implicated in recent research as suppressing normal glandular development. Explain the concept of first and second level approaches to dealing with lactation failure secondary to thyroid dysfunction. List three alternative therapies for milk production and describe one mechanism each for how they may help. Topics Include Why Can t that Baby Latch? The Friday Center is a short distance from Interstate 40 (from Raleigh, I-40 Exit 273B; from Greensboro, I-40 Exit 273). Participants may be contacted at the Friday Center at in case of an emergency. Parking is free. Cancellation and Refunds If you are unable to attend, you may send a substitute. A refund can be issued if we are notified by 5pm on September 28, If a refund is issued, we will deduct a $40 cancellation fee. Refunds are not available after September 28, 2012.
