1 Innvative Prgram Paper and Pster Presentatin Infrmatin 2013 AWHONN Cnventin: Champin Excellence in the Care f Wmen and Newbrns Innvative prgram presentatins are abut innvative prgrams implemented in a variety f practice settings. These are newly created and implemented prgrams that address challenges in wmen s health, bstetric and nenatal nursing practice, educatin r administratin. Papers and psters must include a discussin f prgram utcmes. Submissins are peer reviewed blindly. Applicants can indicate a preference t present rally in a paper sessin, r as a pster. Only thse with speaking experience shuld select paper. Thse interested in presenting rally are encuraged t indicate a willingness t display a pster if nt selected fr ral presentatin. There are a limited number f slts available fr ral presentatin, and ur pster rm is extremely well attended. Arguably mre attendees are expsed t yur wrk there than in an ral presentatin which cmpetes with seven ther sessins. At the cnclusin f the cnference attendees will be able t Integrate imprvement science int practice. Experience inspiratin and prfessinal grwth. Strengthen cllabratins. Submissin Prcess T expedite the submissin prcess, gather required cmpnents befre entering the Speaker Management System. Yu will be asked t prvide the fllwing: Title: Shuld spark interest, yet still clearly reflect the cntent. The title shuld be a cncise statement f the main tpic. Sample titles: Explring An Innvative Apprach t Patient Cmmunicatin with Antepartum Diabetic Patients Implementatin f a Bar-Cded Label System fr the Management f Expressed Breast Milk 1

Presentatin Frmat: Yu will be asked t indicate yur preference t present as a paper, which is a 30 minute ral presentatin, r as a pster. Only thse with speaking experience shuld select paper. If yu select paper, yu are required t list three recent speaking engagements f presenting authrs, including the audience size and cmpsitin. Yu will als be asked if yu are willing t present as a pster if yur abstract is nt selected as a paper. Brief Descriptin: This is 2-3 sentences, n mre than 75 wrds, intended fr psting n the cnventin website r ther prgram materials t let attendees knw what the sessin is abut. Yu want them t attend yur sessin, this shuld stimulate interest. Sample descriptins: Clear cmmunicatin is a crnerstne f quality patient care. As the United States experiences changing demgraphics, healthcare prviders are ften challenged t cmmunicate with patients wh d nt speak English well. The Luz de mi Vida prgram ffers a new and effective apprach t prviding Spanish interpreters in the maternity care setting. There is an under-reprted fall/drp risk fr newbrns during hspitalizatin primarily due t mthers falling asleep when the newbrns are in the maternal bed and the babies falling t the flr. Significant injuries and ptential preventable deaths will be described in three categries f newbrn falls. The presentatin will include an analysis f factrs, events, preventin interventins and the resulting Newbrn Fall Preventin Prgram implemented within a large health care system. Three Behaviral Objectives: This is what the learner shuld be able t d n cmpleting yur sessin. Sample bjectives: Identify the challenges and pprtunities in rural bstetric nursing t prvide safe bstetric care. Describe methds t imprve staff readiness and imprve patient utcmes in lw frequency, high risk events in a rural setting. Frmulate a framewrk t implement evidenced- based practices in bstetric care in a lw vlume setting. Teaching Delivery Methds: Yu will be asked t select frm a list f delivery methds; the methds yu chse shuld be apprpriate fr the cntent and bjectives. Pharmaclgy Cntent: Yu will be asked t estimate hw many minutes yu will spend discussing medicatins during yur presentatin. Bibligraphy: Reviewers want t see the scientific r academic basis fr yur presentatin, the surces fr yur assertins. Yu will be asked t prvide at least five references, preferably frm peer reviewed jurnals. At least three f them must be current as f the last five years. If the submissin is accepted fr ral presentatin, the bisketches f presenting authrs will be read alud t attendees. The fcus f the bisketch shuld be what makes yu qualified t present the tpic. This is an authr s bisketch fr a presentatin n a peer centered nurse internship prgram: Kimberly Carnevale is a Level III RN with ver 20 years experience in labr and delivery nursing at Maine Medical Center (MMC). She hlds a Bachelr's Degree in Nursing frm the University f Suthern Maine, and is certified in Inpatient Obstetrics. Kim has functined as the Family Birth Center Unit Crdinatr, Labr and Delivery charge nurse and MMC's Magnet Cmmittee Unit representative. She has been C-Crdinatr f the Birth Center Nurse Internship Prgram since its inceptin. CV/Resume: All presenting authrs must uplad a current CV r resume. CNE Disclsure: All authrs must disclse any relevant persnal, prfessinal r financial relatinships with a cmmercial interest prducing, marketing r selling health care gds r services cnsumed by r used n patients. In additin, yu must als indicate whether yu will include discussin f ff label drug r device use Abstract Text: Yu will be asked t submit a narrative summary f yur talk, limited t 400 wrds. If yur submissin is selected, this abstract will be included in a cnference prceedings supplement t the Jurnal f Obstetric, Gyneclgic & Nenatal Nursing (JOGNN) and will be edited prir t publicatin. The abstract is used by reviewers t assess yur apprach t the tpic, yur grasp f the current state f practice and science, and the level f sphisticatin f the presentatin. Yu can create the abstract in Wrd first and then cut and paste int the Speaker Management System. Yur abstract must be structured t include the fllwing elements: Purpse fr the prgram Prpsed change Implementatin, utcmes and evaluatin Implicatins fr nursing practice 4

5 Keywrds: 3-6 key terms that can be used t index yur abstract Yur abstract shuld nt include a reference list, in text citatins, tables, r bulleted lists. If yu include these elements, they will be remved prir t publicatin. Please use acrnyms and abbreviatins sparingly if at all. If yu d use an acrnym r abbreviatin, write it ut n first use fllwed by the acrnym in parenthesis; use the acrnym nly thereafter. Tips and Timeline Yu d nt have t cmplete the submissin in ne sitting. Yu can click save and cntinue at the end f a page and get back t the submissin by using yur lg-in number. If the system will nt let yu save the cntent because yu have nt cmpleted the entire page, yu can simply fill in a place hlder such as t be determined and cme back t that field at anther time. All submissins must be cmpleted by September 10, 2012; yu will be ntified f the Prgram Cmmittee s decisin by December, If Yur Submissin Is Selected fr Presentatin All accepted submissins will appear in a cnventin prceedings supplement. In additin submitters are eligible fr the prestigius Outstanding Innvative Prgram Pster r Paper Award presented at a designated time during cnventin. Paper presenters will be prvided an LCD prjectr, cmputer, screen and lectern with micrphne. N ther audi/visual equipment will be prvided r may be used. Each paper sessin will be limited t 30 minutes, which shuld include time at the end fr questins and answers. A maximum f tw peple can present a paper. AWHONN des nt permit use f flipcharts, verheads, r videcassettes during paper presentatins. Psters are put n display in a rm r fyer fr attendees viewing frm Sunday evening, June 16, 2013 thrugh Tuesday late afternn, June 18, Presenters are expected t be at their psters and available fr questins during specified times. Attendees can earn a maximum f 5.0 cntact hurs by viewing psters. Selected pster presenters will be prvided with a chair and a 4ft. high X 8ft. wide crkbard. Psters shuld be n larger than 46 ½ inches high and 93 ¾ wide. Electrical utlets will nt be available. A maximum f tw peple may present a pster. Presenters will be respnsible fr their wn travel and all expenses related t their presentatin. All presenters are required t register t attend the cnventin and will be eligible fr a $75 discunt ff f full cnventin registratin fees.
