2 CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION RDs In Practice is an educational program aimed at advancing clinical knowledge and ideas in specialty areas of pediatric nutrition. Didactic lectures, question/answer sessions, and networking opportunities will allow time for attendees to discuss emerging topics, evidence based practice and solutions to practice dilemmas. CHOC s Clinical Nutrition and Lactation Department has been hosting conferences providing education for specialty and/or advanced level registered dietitians and other professionals since The aim of this conference is to provide advanced level education on infant and toddler nutrition with an emphasis on feeding, allergy, breast milk and formula preparation, and neonatal and surgical nutrition. Who Should Attend Pediatric dietitians, hospital based and general community based pediatricians, pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, feeding therapists (OT/SLP), and management (quality/risk management, NICU managers, breast milk/formula room managers). Discipline Specific Presentations Include Best Practices for Handling Human Milk & Formula in Healthcare Facilities Lactoengineering & Case Based Panel Discussion in Utilizing a Breast Milk Analyzer with an IRB Protocol to Guide Clinical Interventions Neonatal and Surgical Nutrition Complementary Feeding in Infants at Low and High Risk of Developing Food Allergies Medical & Nutritional Management of FPIES & EoE Management Strategies for a Variety of Feeding Challenges Presenting in Neonates through Toddlerhood CONFERENCE OUTCOMES 1. Provide nutritional management to infants using evidenced based guidelines for nutrition support, handling of human milk and formula, breastfeeding, and nutrient composition of human milk and formula. 2. Manage feeding challenges of premature infants, children with dysphagia, selective feeders and picky eaters by utilizing evidenced based strategies to improve feeding skills, behaviors and nutrition. 3. Provide optimal early nutrition support for surgical infants to improve wound healing, immunity, and preservation of lean body mass while preventing TPN induced cholestasis and other nutritional complications. 4. Recognize the clinical presentation of patients with food allergies, FPIES, and EoE and provide appropriate medical and nutritional management using current best practice guidelines.
3 CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS CHOC is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CHOC designates this live activity for a maximum of 14.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this live activity. Dietitians: CHOC Children s is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), code CH020. This event is approved for 14 CPEUs. Nurses: CHOC Children s is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # This event is approved for 14 contact hours. Occupational Therapists: This course has not been certified as an approved AOTA provider, however, this course is pertinent to the practice of occupational therapy and attendants will receive a certificate of hours of attendance to submit for approval with their state therapy board. This certificate is acceptable for the California Board of OT Licensure. Speech Language Pathologists: This course has been approved for 1.35 CEUs (Day 1.35, Day 2.7, Day 3.3) Seeking accreditation for lactation specialists.
