1 OVERVIEW The elective student participates as part f the gynaeclgical nclgy team under the directin f the senir fellw r resident. INTRODUCTION The Gyneclgic Onclgy service is the nly tertiary care nclgy service in wmen s health within the prvince f Manitba with an encatchment area including Manitba, Nunavut and Western Ontari. The service sees ~ new patients per week, prvides 4-6 surgical days per week and has apprximately inpatients at a given time. The service is run by either a senir resident r fellw and ften has several learners including junir residents, ff-service residents and medical students. The Gyne nclgy rtatin ffers the medical student an pprtunity t see and examine cmplex surgical and chemtherapeutic cases, hning their histry, physical and prcedural skills. The student will help the team with runds and participate in departmental educatinal activities. The student is encuraged t assess new patients in each clinic and fllw the patient thrugh the diagnsis, treatment planning and initial stages f management. B) - Inpatient management and care: The medical student will be expected t crdinate and rund with the fellw, senir resident and junir resident daily as assigned. Time f runding will depend upn daily schedule and duties. - Surgical experience in the OR (Ptential ORs daily at bth sites; t be assigned by fellw r senir resident) - Gyn Onc Runds & Pathlgy runds (Mnday mrnings at 8 am at HSC), Gyneclgic nclgy tumur grup (Tuesday mrnings at 7:30 am at SBGH), grand runds (Wednesday mrnings at 7:45 am), O&G academic half day (Friday afternn at 1-4 pm) - Call respnsibility will be individually negtiated with the student
