The integratin f clinical practice, which includes psychtherapy, assessment, and cnsultatin, is achieved thrugh direct clinical experience, supervisin, rle mdeling, and mentrship by psychlgists and ther prfessinals wh advcate fr practice based n the scientific literature as well as best practice appraches, didactic instructin in seminar and supervisin, and additinal assigned reading materials. In rder t accmplish the critical tasks f training interns t becme cmpetent prfessinals, we emply a variety f instructin and training prcesses. Interns will be able t gain direct clinical and assessment experience with children and adlescents acrss multiple settings. Direct experience will include individual psychtherapy, family cunseling/therapy, grup therapy,parent-child interactinal therapy, parent management, psychlgical and/r psych-educatinal assessment, functinal behaviral assessments, and crisis interventin. Direct clinical experience is guided, prcessed, and integrated with infrmatin abut best practices thrugh supervisin, didactic instructin in seminars and cnferences, cllateral cnsultatin with a multidisciplinary team and their intern peers, in-service presentatins n relevant tpics, and by reading supplementary materials. 2. Supervisin High quality, ethical, effective, and cnsistent supervisin is the crnerstne f gd practice. We believe that the best supervisin is cnducted in an atmsphere f mutual respect and trust. While each supervisr's style is different, a cmmn thread thrughut the supervisin prcess is t enhance intern functining by emphasizing best practices, utilizatin f evidence-supprted interventins and encuraging the use f cmmn factrs underlying empirically supprted relatinships. While we recgnize that supervisin entails an evaluative cmpnent and is a hierarchical relatinship, we

7 strive t prmte and maintain a cllegial atmsphere. We expect ur interns t be active participants in the supervisry dialg and prcess and pen t cnstructive feedback n their wrk. Supervisin may include case review, videtape, r live supervisin. It is imprtant fr applicants t knw that there may be times when a supervisr may elect t explre an intern's persnal issues when the supervisr believes these issues are impacting the therapeutic r supervisry prcess. The explratin f cuntertransference and transference dynamics is believed by sme supervisrs t be an integral aspect f gd supervisin. In additin t these issues, it is expected that interns will be able t discuss issues related t their unique cultural heritage and value system as it pertains t clinical practice, ethics, as well as ther relevant practice areas. We strngly encurage interns t talk with each supervisr and establish an agreed upn prtcl fr these and ther issues. In cases where differences exist, additinal input and cnsultatin can be sught frm the Directr f Training r anther supervisr. Each intern receives a minimum f fur hurs per week f supervisin prvided by dctral level licensed psychlgists. Interns will receive 2.5 hurs each week f individual supervisin fcused slely n their residential therapy clients. Supervisin f these cases is extremely thrugh due t the intensity and cmplexity f each case. Each supervisr will fllw and intern's case thrugh discharge. Interns will als receive 1.5 hurs f grup supervisin each week. Grup supervisin is used fr didactic training, reflectin n intern experiences, and clinical case presentatins. Interns are als encuraged t seek ut and btain additinal supervisin frm prfessinals in ther disciplines and t interact with ther schl and clinical psychlgists in the cmmunity. 3. Rle Mdeling We strngly believe that interns gain knwledge and skills fr cmpetent practice thrugh regular expsure t experienced prfessinals ding their jbs. In keeping with this mdeling apprach, every effrt will be made t have interns wrk with prfessinals frm a variety f disciplines. This enables the intern t becme expsed t the day t day prcesses f wrking within cmplex systems as part f a multidisciplinary team. 4.
