We are interested in showcasing original and innovative projects that address current trends across the perinatal continuum. Abstracts for poster presentations should be no longer than 200 words including, purpose, design, methodology, discussions/findings, theoretical/ conceptual framework (if applicable), and implication for nursing practice. The requested size for the poster presentation should be no larger than 48 inches X 36 inches.{abstracts may be sent to C.J. 4 Overview The Annual Perinatal Conference is a very successful obstetrical/neonatal conference that has become a tradition for maternal child nurses and practitioners in the tri-state for many years. The 34th Annual Perinatal Conference will present a variety of cutting edge topics impacting the daily practices of today s obstetrical and neonatal nurses and providers. The highly specialized and inter-professional team-based care provided to obstetrical patients and neonates requires ongoing multidisciplinary education to empower the health care professionals to apply evidence based practice to improve perinatal outcomes and women s health. The planning committee has selected topics based upon written as well as verbal evaluations and surveys from last year s symposium and clinically current information concerning obstetrical and neonatal care. We are inviting health care professionals to present their evidenced based practice and research during the poster session. A recent needs assessment identified the following areas in knowledge, competence and performance that we plan to address in the symposium curriculum including: implications & management of intrauterine resuscitation, prenatal recognition and treatment options for congenital heart disease, update on management and education regarding safe sleep practice, OCD and impact on parenting, cultural health disparity present on Long island, L&D nurse research project: peanut ball study/implications in the delivery setting.

7 Competencies: This symposium will address the following ACGME/ABMS/ IOM competencies: Medical knowledge > Provide patient centered care > Evidence based practice > work in interdisciplinary teams Target Audience Obstetricians, Neonatologists, Pediatricians, Obstetrical and Neonatal nurses, Midwives, Advance practice nurses, Physician Assistants, Community Health nurses, respiratory therapists and fellows, residents, and students involved in the care of obstetrical and neonatal patients. OBJECTIVES Discuss the cultural health disparities that exist in specific geographical areas on Long Island. Evaluate how the knowledge of cultural beliefs and evidence based interven tions and education will enhance safe sleep practices and improve SUID outcomes. Comprehend the clinical significance of intrauterine resuscitation on Category II & III heart rate tracings during labor. Understand the fundamentals of collaborative care for women experiencing congenital heart disease during childbearing. Develop a plan of care for prenatal diagnosis and neonatal management for the infant with congenital heart disease. Increase awareness of significance of the bedside nurse to be involved in research to enhance the care of laboring patients to facilitate vaginal delivery.
