2 Overview, Target Audience and Learner Outcome This perinatal conference reviews aspects of assessment, stabilization, and acute care of the high-risk pregnant woman, fetus and newborn infant through clinical cases, parent perspectives and evidence-based information. Perinatal nurses, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists and other healthcare team members working in prenatal care, OB/ICU, Mom/Baby and NICU environments will find the conference and networking opportunities invaluable. Attendees will expand their own professional development by self-reporting how they share knowledge and resources regarding obstetrical and neonatal diagnoses, trends and innovations with their teams, patients and families. Choose to attend the live conference at Children s Hospital Colorado or at one of the video conference sites in Colorado (Colorado Springs and Grand Junction), Montana (Billings and Kalispell), New Mexico (Farmington) or Wyoming (Cheyenne). Objectives Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to: Discuss toxic substances pregnant women may come in contact with and potential effects on the pregnancy and fetus. Describe how fetal Doppler studies are used in the diagnosis and management of the intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) fetus. Recognize key features of prenatal congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) imaging that predict postnatal outcomes. Describe current postnatal management strategies for newborns with CDH. List elements for a basic understanding of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Describe various types of selective fetal growth restriction, management strategies and outcomes. Formulate a clinical diagnosis and plan based on data obtained from a case study. Breakfast Roundtable (choose one): Facilitators will present a case illustrating topic key points to elicit gaps in practice and strategies for improvement: - Review most recent literature to improve impact on practice. - Discuss use of maternal early warning systems for better early recognition of OB sepsis. - Describe the technology and application of NAVA Ventilation in the setting of a difficult extubation (also video conferenced). - Review recent literature/events on preventable harm in the Neonatal ICU. Outline the strengths and limitations of prenatal testing. Explain maternal Diabetic Ketoacidosis including early recognition, treatment and potential complications. Outline the different methods to support newborns with surfactant deficiency and evolving chronic lung disease. Review strategies to prevent retinopathy of prematurity in the newborn. Describe the barriers and facilitators to optimizing home care of preterm infants after hospital discharge. Continuing Education Credit Registration, attendance, sign-in and submission of the evaluation, including a written response to questions related to any change in practice that you may make as a result of learning that took place at this activity, are required for successful completion and receipt of the certificate of attendance. Claim only those hours you attend. Nursing is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Western Multi-State Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This offering for 13 nursing contact hours is provided by (5/ hours; 5/ hours, including the Breakfast Round Table). Respiratory Care Application will be submitted for American Association for Respiratory CRCE credit for Respiratory Therapists. Other Providers A certificate of attendance will be given to all other providers. Note: Continuing competency components and measures may now be part of your specialty certification program. Documentation of completion of the targeted education activities is required. To assist with this requirement, you may want to keep a copy of the brochure.
