47 SUMMER 2017 SENIOR & YOUTH CENTERS SOUTHSIDE SENIOR & COMMUNITYCENTER C da Summer Theatre, South Pacific at the Kroc in Cd A 1 day All Ages SOUTH PACIFIC, a Rogers and Hammerstein classic, is set in an island paradise during World War II. Two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, refuses Emile s proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself the fulfillment of a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl with whom he s fallen in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe s life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices. Price includes theater ticket, valet parking, escort and transportation from Southside Senior & Community Center, 3151 E. 27th. No host meal following the show. $61 Su 07/16 1 PM 7 PM $49er Club, Hutterite Colony 1 day All Ages Spend the day at this fascinating community outside of Odessa WA. The Marlin Hutterites have lived, worked and worshipped in this location since 1975, one of five Hutterite colonies in Eastern Washington. They call themselves the plain people, partly because of the way they dress, alike and simply. Women wear long, plaid dresses and scarves. Men wear colored shirts and black pants hitched by suspenders. The married men wear beards and all but one has the same surname, Gross. Among themselves they speak their own Tyrol dialect, which is never written, but speak English with outsiders. They shun conveniences - television or computers - that don t help work or their colony thrive. They are skilled craftsmen and mechanics, but foremost they are large-scale, efficient farmers with the latest equipment. Work is at the very heart of their religion. Price Includes an up close and personal tour of the colony, an amazing home-cooked meal in their dining hall, transportation, a loaf of fresh bread baked right from their ovens and transportation from Southside Senior & Community Center, 3151 E. 27th. $49 W 06/28 8 AM - 5 PM Phillipsburg, MT 3 days All Ages Spend two nights at the historic Broadway Hotel where each room is specially themed, cozy and comfortable. Wander around charming Phillipsburg s compact three block downtown with it s seven antiques stores, fun old saloons and dozens of stunning old buildings that reflect P-burg s rip-roaring history as one of the West s great mining centers. Be entertained both nights by plays at the Opera House Theater. It will be a great adventure to the Old West! Price includes, lodging, theater tickets, picnic lunch, escort and transportation from Southside Senior & Community Center, 3151 E. 27th. $449 For more information call 311 (Outside the City, call CITY (2489) (711 for hearing impaired)) 45
