FOOTBALL CAMP Coach Jeff Root & staff The 4th annual Lakers Football Camp is a four-day non-contact camp with instruction in all phases of football. Offensive and defensive instruction will include technique play for interior linemen, linebackers, offensive backs & receivers including QBs and defensive backs. A specialty unit with a focus on the kicking game will also be highlighted. The emphasis of the camp is to learn technique, make new friends, and have fun! Coach Root and his staff offer over 150 years of coaching experience and are excited for you to attend the camp. This four day camp promises to be extremely fun as well as highly instructional. Learn about the basics such as stretching, proper footwear, and running form using advanced technology in the MPS Dream Lab. Also, you will dive deeper into racing strategy, pre-race preparation, nutrition and team building. You can come as an individual or invite your team to attend. 3 ROWING CAMP Coach Dave Geiger MPS is host to the area s only international rowing team, which began in the 80s. With our experienced, winning coaches, you ll be learning skills that will develop and improve your technique. The atmosphere is relaxed enough to be fun while also providing an informative introduction to the sport of rowing on Presque Isle Bay in our top-of-the-line racing shells. Head Coach David Geiger has been on the staff of the rowing team since During his time as head coach, the team has won numerous awards on the national and international level. Many of his rowers have been awarded scholarships at some of the top colleges in the country. Join Coach Geiger and his experienced coaching staff, many of whom are dedicated Mercyhurst Prep alums. BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP Coach Sean Baer Coach Baer recently finished his eighth season as head coach of the MPS varsity basketball program. Members of the current Laker basketball team and coaching staff will help you expand your skill set and reach your full potential. Campers will learn ball handling, shooting skills and man-to-man defensive strategies. Daily contests and drills will be a part of the competitive yet fun-filled atmosphere. GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP Coach Dan Perfetto Master fundamentals in this highly individualized camp, while concentrating on skill development and game application. Coach Perfetto has completed his 12th year of coaching the MPS girls team, with over 250 career wins and seven Region Championships. He is a two-time State Class AAA runner up, won one D-10 championship and was named the 2011 PIAA State AAA Coach of the Year. We ll see you on the hardwoods in June. 4 POTTERPALOOZA: A Week of Magic...Wizardry...Fun...Adventure... During the Week of Magic, students will be sorted into houses and will attend various Harry Potter-themed classes such as herbology, PLR (Professor Lockhart s Reenactments), potions, astronomy and so much more. Young witches and wizards will gather at the Mercyhurst Prep campus of HOGWARTS and will take excursions to the castle at Mercyhurst University. Students should dress for a variety of indoor/outdoor games and activities and are welcome to dress in costume. Bring a bagged lunch; snacks and beverages will be provided. SPAW (Summer Performing Arts Workshop): Gotta Sing...Gotta Dance... This is a two-week program that will commence in the recently renovated Mercyhurst Prep Performing Arts Center, (PAC). If you ve gotta sing and gotta dance...then grab your dancing shoes and favorite music and join us on the MPS Performing Arts stage for two weeks of musical theatre fun!!! Students will be grouped according to age. Every day each group will experience classes in dance, music, and theatre. Grab a friend or two and don t miss this opportunity! On Friday, July 22, the talented students will perform a showcase for family and friends in the Performing Arts Center. Our coding program will teach students important strategies to enhance their logic and problem-solving skills as well as help them work toward becoming technological innovators of tomorrow. Our program offers a skill level progression of coding concepts. Students will be introduced to basic coding with a fun, user-friendly coding software. June AM - 12 PM Ages 9 and up STOP MOTION ANIMATION Light, cameras, LEGO action! Use LEGO bricks to tell YOUR story, complete with music, special effects and all your favorite LEGO mini- figure characters! In this unique and creative camp, students will plan, script, stage, shoot, and produce their own mini-movie using Stop Motion Animation. Working as a team, students will use LEGO components to build the set and props, then shoot their movie using a camera. Teams will use movie-making software to add special effects, titles, credits and more. When the movie is complete, campers will impress friends and family with a screening party on the last day of camp. Don t miss your chance to be a movie producer! June PM or July AM - 12 PM Ages 9 and up sensors and software by programming their commands directly into the intelligent brick. Test their capabilities by moving an object with a robotic claw, building a robot that draws, or creating a mousetrap. Our endless list of builds is sure to provide the complete fundamental components of robotics at its best! July PM Ages 9 and up NEW! VIDEO GAME DESIGN Students will develop a range of coding and problem-solving skills as they create fun video games. Game designers will think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively to create various video games. Each Game Design unit includes a themed mini-model built with LEGO Bricks that will be the main character of all of the games. Each game progressively teaches more advanced capabilities within the video game design software. Students will be proud and excited to actually play their very own completed video games. July 30 - August 3 9 AM - 12 PM Ages 9 and up CODING WITH EV3 Bring LEGO Bricks to life with coding! The ability to code is a key component of technology education today. MERCYHURST PREP STUDENTS ONLY Grades 9-12 STUDY SKILLS WITH ipad DISTRIBUTION AND ORIENTATION This course is designed to help students access techniques that will improve comprehension and application across the curriculum. The ipads for incoming students will be distributed, and an ipad skill session will occur during class time. The ipad is only one of many tools our students will use in this study skills class. July 23 - August 3 10 AM - 11:30 AM Grades 9-12 $150 Class meets Monday through Friday PRE-ALGEBRA FOR HIGH SCHOOL The class is designed for incoming ninth graders who would like to strengthen basic math skills. The ninth grade placement test will be used as a guide for what skills need to be reviewed, practiced, and reinforced. July 23 - August 3 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM Grade 9 $150 TERM CLASSES Students take summer term classes for many reasons. The most common motivation is to clear the yearlong schedule for added classes in math, science, theatre, and the arts. Many students also use this avenue to open their upperclass schedules to take advantage of college classes offered at Mercyhurst University. June 11 - July 6 (EXCLUDING July 4) Grades 9-12 ALL TERM CLASSES $200 Class size is limited, and the atmosphere is casual. Students enrolling in these classes should register online or by mail by June 1. Courses are scheduled at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. NOTE: Schedules are set to accommodate the greatest number of students. Please contact your student s guidance counselor for more information. Students will have the opportunity to work through a fourth term (40 hours) of review and graded practice to identify and correct skill deficits. Students may enroll in remediation/credit recovery courses on the recommendation of their teachers and counselors or upon parent request. Dates: June 14 - July 12 / 40 hours 8:30-10:30 AM or 10:30 AM -12:30 PM $200 Class schedules accommodate the greatest number of students A class must meet a minimum capacity in order to run Students are permitted one excused absence in remediation/credit recovery classes. All credit issued for summer classes are at the College Prep (CP) level. No classes Wednesday, July 4. NOTE: Private tutoring may be available at all levels of math instruction. Fees are negotiated directly with tutor through Mercyhurst Prep. MERCY LEARNING ONLINE Mercyhurst Prep students have the opportunity to access select elective and remediation/ credit recovery courses online through the Mercy Learning Online Network for a term elective credit. In the event that a course is not offered on the Mercyhurst Prep campus in the summer, it may be taken online as a fourth term remediation/credit recovery class.
