A SMP meeting was held on 06 October at San Onofre Beach Resort. The Member at Large called the meeting to order at List of those in attendance is provided on the sign in sheet (attachment 1). 2. This information for those in 11 Area and 13 Area. SAFETY ISSUES Galaxy 7s are still burning up and E-Cigarettes are exploding. Be aware! Motorcycle safety courses will be open November, December and January. November and January are highly recommended as December classes will be very full. 4. Tamika Peters San Onofre Beach Staff Not in attendance San Onofre Beach Club is open for PME, reception events, retirements, weddings, etc. All PME s are free of cost. Oct 21 Sunset Social event there will be food and games included. Campsite cottages are now available in 2 and 3 bedrooms. Also available, spots for RV trailers (book at least 12 weeks out). Cost depends on paygrade of Marine/Sailor 7. Jimi Shive Hardcorps Race Series - Tun Tavern event (go to website to register, $35). Register to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday by signing up to run 10 miles or a 10K. This is a virtual run so completion is on the honor system. You will get a t-shirt and medal upon completion. 8. Patrick McNulty Transition and Employment Services - Starting planning for transition months from EAS date. TRS (Transition and Career Services) Program covers interview skills, resume writing, VA Benefits, How to Dress for Success, etc. Nov 3 Bldg 1795 LinkedIn will be on base and offering assistance on how to maximize the benefits of your LinkedIn account Skills Development Department 8 programs involved (such as Microsoft, assistance with job placement, etc) 8. This is an awesome event for a local school where the whole community comes out to have fun! Volunteer and have some fun too! As a grand finale for our Red Ribbon Week, we are having the Marines/Sailors come and motivate the students to exercise during our "Red Ribbon Fun Run/Spirit Day", which will take place during lunch recesses on the track field for all students from kindergarten - 5th grades. The Marines/Sailors will be great examples of good character, good values, good choices, and healthy living for our students. First shift of 12, please arrive 10:45am and lead warm up exercises/run laps with children till 12pm. Next shift of 12, please arrive at 11:50am and exercise with the kids until 1:15p. They will get a letter of appreciation for helping to motivate our students to exercise. Ivey Ranch Elementary Annual Harvest Festival Friday, 14 Oct 2016 from 4pm to 9pm Darcy Clevenger E- MAIL DARCY@IVEYRANCHPTO.ORG In past years we've had Marines volunteer to help us man the games, jumpies, pony rides, etc. It's been wonderful because it allows families to enjoy the festival instead of working it. We will need help setting up and cleaning up for the carnival. Some of the other things we will need help with is managing the carnival games and directing cars for the Trunk or Treat. The Panther Lacrosse Club February - May Tom Slaughter tom.slaughter@oulacrosse.org The Panther Lacrosse Club is searching for a coach for the upcoming 2016 season. This is a High School Boys Varsity program that will be competing in the Pacific Lacrosse League (PLL) for the upcoming 2016 season. The season runs February through May, with practices on weeknights from 7-9PM in the Vista High School Stadium in Vista, CA. Games will be scheduled on weekend (usually Saturdays). Practices will be scheduled to begin in December. There is an existing core group of players with lacrosse experience, and a large number of non-lacrosse athletes ready to give the sport a try. Previous coaching experience is desired, but not required. Previous high school playing experience Big Brothers, Big Sisters of San Diego Mondays or Wednesdays or Cory Schurlock Tuesdays - CoryS@SDBigs.org or Thursdays Big Brother Big Sisters of San Diego is looking for active duty and civilian volunteers for our Operation Bigs program which takes place on all 5 elementary schools on Camp Pendleton. In our program, the Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers meet with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters for one hour one day a week (times and dates are the same every week) at the child s school site. During that hour the Big and Little matches do activities such as play board games, do arts and crafts projects, or just run around outside, playing ball, throwing Frisbees, jumping rope, and other fun activities! These are the days and times we meet each week during the school year Fisher House Camp Pendleton Kiana Bright (760) kiana.bright@usmc.mil The Fisher House provides a "home away from home" at no cost for families of patients admitted for medical care at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton or affiliated medical centers. We offer comfortably furnished rooms with bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living, dining, laundry and play rooms. The home provides free temporary lodging so military families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis. Fisher House is available to families of active duty, retired and veterans from all services including the National Guard and Coast Guard. Our Fisher House has a full-time staff but depends on volunteers and voluntary support to enhance daily operations and program expansion. Please consider volunteering your time to help our courageous service members and their families.

They have several different programs that would benefit from additional volunteers; they include: Operation Appreciation, Military Kidz Club, Books on Bases. Each program has different capacities in which to volunteer in. Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary Ali Nusbaum alinusbaum@msn.com There are a lot of chores to do there and only a few volunteers. The animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up or not, and many of the current volunteers are seniors. They often find it difficult to stay to a regular schedule. Most of the chores involve cleaning and washing, not the most exciting type of chore, but one that is required daily. Dog walking would also be helpful. Community Resource Center Community Resource Center is seeking volunteers that can help with event breakdown for their Fall Equinox gala and their soccer season. The Fall Equinox gala is in September are times and days to be determined. Los Angelitos de Encinitas is seeking two soccer coaches. Soccer coaching experience is not a must, just knowledge of the game is needed. Overall, we are looking for male role models for low-income youth. Sunrise Youth Care Center Escondido Ana (760) Sunrise Youth Care Center in Escondido is in need of a few mature men who would be willing to mentor their boys. They especially need men who are of African American and Hispanic descent. They prefer men who are in their 30's-40's, and men who perhaps grew up in foster care or were in trouble with the law before they turned their lives around. If so, this could be a great opportunity for you. This group helps teens with special needs (such as autism) learn the dynamics of building friendships, social skills and self-expression through fresh and creative avenues. Drawing on peers and professionals from the music community, this group experiences music recording, instrument exploration, improvisational

13 Newsletter October 2016 Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation. Charlies are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. Each event begins at /11 - Rancho Vista Retirement Home 10/12 - Pacific Place Retirement Home 10/26 - Fairwinds Retirement Home 10/ Base Stables Volunteer Day. Camp Pendleton Stables, bldg Participants will help clean and groom horses, clean stalls, and help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event. 10/21 P.E. Fitness Challenge. Volunteers will host an all-day fitness challenge at a local Middle school. All volunteers must meet at Semper Fit Headquarters at Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts and plain skivvy shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed. 10/22 Pumpkin Plummet Volunteers will 10 volunteers needed at 1500 at 13 Area Pool. Volunteers may wear civilian attire and will help with parking, games, and crowd control. An LOA will be issued to volunteers, dinner will also be provided. MCCS Activities 10/1 - Tour De Camp Pendleton $10 for Active Duty includes race bib, t-shirt, Gatorade, snacks, and race access. Cycling event riding from the Northernmost point on Camp Pendleton through Basilone and down to Las Pulgas covering varying routes of 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles. Register at 10/5 - GC Cup Kickball Tournament. Max 10 players on a team. Team rosters are set once your first game has started. Unit uniforms or cleats are optional, pennies uniforms, Kickball are provided. No metal cleats. Commanding General's Cup Points are awarded for this tournament. This tournament is for active duty military stationed aboard Camp Pendleton. 3 female teams are required for a Female Category Division. There is NO entry fee. Check out upcoming events and up-to-date Cup point standing at 11/6-11 Tun Tavern Ten Virtual 10 K and 10 mile Run - Celebrate the Marine Corps 241st birthday. Run between November 6-11 and receive the event shirt and finisher medal. Register by Nov 6 at finished your 10K or 10 miles by Nov 11 and receive your prizes in the mail. Proceeds support the quality of life programs for active duty programs aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
