1 Volunteering Students must bring a form to document their service and request that the event supervisor enter the hours earned, complete an evaluation, and sign. Forms are available in the College and Career Center; you may also print a form by going to and selecting the left tab marked Volunteer Forms. 3 Department of Ecology Multiple opportunities. Check out the links from their Ecology for Educators & Students page. (Note that several pages have not been updated/or are not found) This organization partners with lower-income people to create gardens for growing their own food as well as numerous outreach and education/training campaigns. Volunteers can paint, make phone calls, letter signs, take photos, weed gardens, repair tools, post flyers, and perform many other tasks. 4 Hands On Children s Museum Volunteers may sign up for special events such as Sand In the City, regularly scheduled days, or internships. Duties could include face painting, cleaning up, greeting visitors, helping with art activities, food service, marketing/promoting, and more. Volunteers stamp books, put on new covers, shelve items, assist patrons, and more. Minimum age is 13. Application with criminal background questionnaire required. 5 The Habitat Store The South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity s store needs teenage volunteers to keep it running smoothly. Student volunteers meet with the child at the Lacey Boys and Girls Club. A separate program involves volunteering at Nisqually Middle School. For mature student volunteers who wish to work directly with orphaned or injured wild animals. FHSARR is located in Rochester. Lacey Police Department s Explorer Post 747 Thurston County Animal Services The Lacey Police Department sponsors this opportunity to experience different areas of law enforcement, service to the community, and the development of skills related to leadership and discipline. Volunteer duties can include being a kennel helper, office helper, project helper, public events worker, shelter helper, fostering a pet, and more. Looking for dedicated long-term volunteers only. Minimum age is 15 ½ Minimum age 14. Due to intensive training required, volunteers must commit to 4 hours per month for at least 6 months. 7 Thurston County Search and Rescue Washington Explorer Search and Rescue is a statewide organization comprised of youth and adult volunteers dedicated to helping those who are lost or injured in wilderness or urban settings. They also assist the Sheriff s Department in other missions such as flood control and crime scene evidence searches. Other activities they are involved in are: parking lot attendants, sand bagging during floods, and other community activities. Training for new members is offered twice a year.
