A SMP meeting was held on 04 February at the 43 Area SMP Recreation Center. 3 8. Tom Wagner Base Volunteer Coordinator Thanked everyone for doing an amazing job with volunteering. Last quarter CPen had 40,000 volunteer hours logged. Please contact Tom for any questions regarding the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal or volunteering out in the community. 9. Cpl Castro Rivera: Old Issues: None New Issues: o The Hard Corps Race Series is in need of corpsman for the Hell Fire Fat Tire race in March. If interested please contact Mark Buehman at o The Hearst Castle trip Right now we cannot secure a campsite for the dates that were originally planned. Kids will be jogging to raise money for the school to pay for programs like art and PE! We would like about 20 marines to do a quick 2 or 3 minute warm-up with the kids (stretching, jumping jacks, etc.) then jog laps with them. Children from Kinder to grade 5 will participate and run in shifts. It is a really fun time with music blaring and good vibes for all! Food and drinks will be provided as well as a letter of appreciation! Please wear a marine t-shirt. California Pizza Kitchen Lake O'Neill Restoration Project 24 Feb Devin Leal (760) devin.leal@usmc-mccs.org We need Marines and Sailors (Active Duty Only) to volunteer at the California Pizza Kitchen Event on February 24th from at Lake O Neill Peninsula meeting at the Lake O Neill Office at 0930 for check in. The uniform will be Boots and Utes and they will be assisting with the Lake O Neill restoration project in which 500 Volunteers come aboard Camp Pendleton and restore the Lake O Neill peninsula. We had a great turn out last year with almost 200 Marines- this year we are hoping for around 75. Marines will have a catered lunch, shirt and an LOA. Thank you! Ironman March16 & 1-3 April 16 Morgon Latimore (816) cal@ironmanvolunterrs.com Ironman 70.3 California at Oceanside is a half Ironman distance race (Swim 1.2 miles, Bike 56 miles, and Run 13.1 miles) that takes place in Oceanside, CA and aboard Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. Every year over 2,500 athletes come to par take in this race and every year we reach out to the Marines and Sailor of Camp Pendleton for their AWESOME support. This year the Ironman Foundation has given us over $20,000 in grant funds to donate to your Battalion/Company/Association. These funds are donated to groups that volunteer for Ironman 70.3 California. We also are looking for individuals that would like to give back to their local community. The Panther Lacrosse Club February - May Tom Slaughter tom.slaughter@oulacrosse.org The Panther Lacrosse Club is searching for a coach for the upcoming 2016 season. This is a High School Boys Varsity program that will be competing in the Pacific Lacrosse League (PLL) for the upcoming 2016 season. The season runs February through May, with practices on weeknights from 7-9PM in the Vista High School Stadium in Vista, CA. Games will be scheduled on weekend (usually Saturdays). Practices will be scheduled to begin in December. There is an existing core group of players with lacrosse experience, and a large number of non-lacrosse athletes ready to give the sport a try. Previous coaching experience is desired, but not required. Previous high school playing experience required, college playing experience preferred. Stipend available to cover expenses. Big Brothers, Big Sisters of San Diego Mondays or Wednesdays or Cory Schurlock Tuesdays - CoryS@SDBigs.org or Thursdays Big Brother Big Sisters of San Diego is looking for active duty and civilian volunteers for our Operation Bigs program which takes place on all 5 elementary schools on Camp Pendleton. In our program, the Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers meet with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters for one hour one day a week (times and dates are the same every week) at the child s school site. During that hour the Big and Little matches do activities such as play board games, do arts and crafts projects, or just run around outside, playing ball, throwing Frisbees, jumping rope, and other fun activities! These are the days and times we meet each week during the school year Fisher House Camp Pendleton Kiana Bright (760) kiana.bright@usmc.mil The Fisher House provides a "home away from home" at no cost for families of patients admitted for medical care at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton or affiliated medical centers. We offer comfortably furnished rooms with bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living, dining, laundry and play rooms. The home provides free temporary lodging so military families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis. Fisher House is available to families of active duty, retired and veterans from all services including the National Guard and Coast Guard. Our Fisher House has a full-time staff but depends on volunteers and voluntary support to enhance daily operations and program expansion. Please consider volunteering your time to help our courageous service members and their families. The animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up or not, and many of the current volunteers are seniors. They often find it difficult to stay to a regular schedule. Most of the chores involve cleaning and washing, not the most exciting type of chore, but one that is required daily. Dog walking would also be helpful. Fallbrook Union Elementary School District Bill Billingsley bbillingsley@fuesd.org Seeking a small group of dedicated mentors willing to work with 8th grade students who have past behavioral and or social/emotional difficulties, many reside in very poor families with a single parent in the home. Community Resource Center Community Resource Center is seeking volunteers that can help with event breakdown for their Fall Equinox gala and their soccer season. The Fall Equinox gala is in September are times and days to be determined. Los Angelitos de Encinitas is seeking two soccer coaches. Soccer coaching experience is not a must, just knowledge of the game is needed. Overall, we are looking for male role models for low-income youth. Sunrise Youth Care Center Escondido Ana (760) Sunrise Youth Care Center in Escondido is in need of a few mature men who would be willing to mentor their boys. They especially need men who are of African American and Hispanic descent. They prefer men who are in their 30's-40's, and men who perhaps grew up in foster care or were in trouble with the law before they turned their lives around. Banding Together info@themusictherapycenter.com (619) Have you ever wanted to volunteer with teens and young adults with special needs? Do you have a desire to help others? If so, this could be a great opportunity for you. This group helps teens with special needs (such as autism) learn the dynamics of building friendships, social skills and self-expression through fresh and creative avenues. Drawing on peers and professionals from the music community, this group experiences music recording, instrument exploration, improvisational songwriting, drumming and other projects based on the interests and needs of the group. This pilot program will involve a total of 6 jam sessions, and volunteers (peer mentors) must be able to attend all six sessions to sign up. Each Jam Session will feature a special rock star guest musician and will be facilitated by board-certified music therapists. Peer mentor will help nurture inclusion opportunities for this special group. Each peer mentor will be paired with a teen as a buddy for the duration of the six sessions and must attend a mandatory training session prior to the first group. This opportunity will be once a month on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30pm starting in the fall of 2012.
