The specimens of different ocular pathology will be reviewed and the disease processes that cause changes in ocular pathology will be discussed. 9:00 am 10:00 am Session I Surgical Options for Presbyopia Jordan Rixen, M.D. Synopsis: This course will describe the new options available to correct presbyopia surgically. This lecture will compare the options of surgery versus eyeglasses, review the surgical procedures and determine who is a good candidate. 9:00 am 10:00 am Session II Secondary Glaucomas Thomas Graul, M.D. Synopsis: This presenter will define the difference between primary and secondary glaucoma. From knowing the best materials to dispense for safety and RX, to actively measuring decentration for a smaller PD. Opticians will learn the foundations of dispensing to a younger age group. 1:00 pm 2:00 pm Session II Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye : Hands-On Cow Eye Dissection Patty Terp, M.D. Synopsis: This course will cover the anatomy of the eye. The technology, tools and resources available to give to patients will be discussed. Attendees recognize what patients can benefit from with the proper tools and resources. 3:15 pm 4:15 pm Session I Double Trouble: Workup and Treatment of Adult Patients with Diplopia Prem Subramanian, M.D. Synopsis: This lecture will help attendees recognize dangerous symptoms that may accompany diplopia. The presenter will describe the urgency of obtaining appropriate laboratory and neuro-imaging studies to investigate the cause of diplopia. Attendees will learn how to counsel patients on medical and surgical management strategies and the requirements for office follow up. 3:15 pm -4:15 pm Session II Current Guidelines for Plaquenil Screening Matthew Appenzeller, M.D. Intermediate-Advanced Synopsis: This course identifies current screening protocol guidelines. Discussion will describe testing used to rule out potential abnormal results and identifying toxic dosing levels of Plaquenil. 4:15 pm 5:15 pm Session I SunXtreme TKelli Koenigsberg, Education Services - Walman Optical ABO Approved Synopsis: Learn the dangers associated with UV rays and Blue Light and the damage they can cause. Presented will be choices of lens products which will prevent or prolong onset of certain eye conditions related to harmful rays. 4:15 pm 5:15 pm Session II Diabetic Retinopathy Update Thomas Hejkel, M.D. Synopsis: This lecture will describe diabetic retinopathy. The presenter will list the signs and symptoms of diabetic retinopathy as well as what exam and testing is needed. 5 Agenda Saturday, September 30, :00 am 9:00 am Session I Emerging Technology in Pediatric Eye Care and Surgery in 2017 Donny Suh, M.D. Synopsis: This course will discuss the new treatments being used for eye care in the pediatric patient. The harmful effects UV light can have on the eye will be described. Options that are available for limiting UV exposure will be learned. 8:00 am 9:00 am Session II Eye Emergencies Shane Havens, M.D. Synopsis: This course will help attendees recognize what constitutes an emergency in ophthalmology and will discuss what is emergent, urgent and routine. An overview of different emergencies and how they are treated will be a part of this lecture. 9:00 am 10:00 am Session I Corneal Disease Mike Stuntz, M.D. Synopsis: This lecture will review different corneal conditions ophthalmologists see in the clinic. It will discuss examination and testing used to diagnose corneal disease as well as various treatments of corneal disease. 9:00 am 10:00 am Session II Medication Update Kristen Burwick, M.D. Synopsis: This course highlights the topical ophthalmic medications available. Also reviewed will be the injectable ophthalmic medications used in ophthalmology. Attendees will learn to recognize the differences in the actions of glaucoma medications. 10:00 am - 10:15 am BREAK 10:15am 11:15 am Session I An Overview of Diagnostic Procedures in Ophthalmology Andrew Baldwin, M.D. Synopsis: This course will discuss reasons and techniques for manual diagnostic procedures. Reviewed will be instrumental diagnostic studies. Presented will be case studies which will demonstrate the need for diagnostic testing and procedures. 10:15 am - 11:15 am Session II Ophthalmic Manifestations of Systemic Disease John Peters, M.D. Synopsis: Attendees will learn to identify the systemic diseases which present with ophthalmic findings. Discussed will be the ocular clinical findings in multiple systemic diseases. The diagnostic and therapeutic options will also be covered. 11:15 am 12:15 pm Session I Introduction to Oculoplastics and the Work-up of the Functional Patient David Blodgett, M.D. NO SESSION II Synopsis: This course will identify the most common conditions treated by the oculoplastics surgeon and help differentiate between a functional and cosmetic patient.
