2 About the Program Hey, Doc what s this spot? Rashes, itches, spots, lumps or bumps: skin disease is a frequent complaint of patients in all clinical settings. This conference is designed to provide physicians an opportunity to review both simple and serious skin problems commonly seen in the office and inpatient settings. Emphasis will be given to: skin problems prevalent in primary care practices; developments in the field of office practice dermatology; dermatologic manifestations of internal disease; and diseases more commonly seen in our region. Objectives Upon completion of this knowledge-based program, participants should have a greater understanding and knowledge of strategies to integrate into practice new developments in the following: Non-melanoma Skin Cancers for Primary Care Practitioner: * Recognize non-melanoma skin cancers * Describe treatment guidelines for non-melanoma cancers * Recognize when to refer for Mohs microscopic-directed surgery Cutaneous Rings n Things: * Recognize and diagnose various annular skin rashes and lesions * Develop a reasonable plan for evaluating these annular entities * Explain when to refer these various problems The Cogburn-Kirby Lecture: Updates in Tickborne Illness in North Carolina: * List the signs and symptoms of tickborne illnesses including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis, and Lyme Disease * Describe the incidence rates of tickborne illness across North Carolina * Identify appropriate laboratory tests needed to meet CDC case definitions for surveillance of tickborne illness * Locate online resources for the assessment, treatment, and prevention of tickborne illness Common Pediatric and Adolescent Dermatology: * Identify the most common skin rashes and lesions seen in the pediatric and adolescent population * Describe initial treatment of these various common skin conditions * Recognize when to refer these skin conditions Diagnosing Dermatologic Problems in the Primary Care Setting: * Describe a variety of common skin rashes and lesions presenting to a primary care practitioner; * Describe initial treatment of these skin conditions * Recognize when to refer these common skin conditions Dermatologic Emergencies: * Recognize dermatologic diseases considered requiring emergent attention * Apply initial evaluation/treatment for the patient with dermatologic emergencies * Identify whom to consult for these various diseases Corticosteroids and the Skin: * Describe safe utilization of corticosteroid medications in cutaneous disorders Recognize effects of corticosteroids in disease treatment * Recognize side effects of these medications * Interesting Cases from Down-East: * Recognize, manage and treat a variety of skin problems especially those related to our region Who Should Attend This conference has been planned for Physicians in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Women s Health and Pediatrics and may be of interest to other physician specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurse Midwives and Pharmacists.

To receive CE credit, attendance must be acknowledged at the registration desk upon arrival at the program. Participants must attend the entire session to receive CE credit. Statements of credit can be viewed and printed from CPE Monitor. The University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants must attend the entire session to receive credit. No partial credit will be given.
