2 Purpose and Objectives Purpose: This conference is designed to update attendees regarding the evidence supporting best current clinical practices in ambulatory care. The information presented is intended to enhance clinical competence in the diagnosis and treatment of selected primary care topics as identified by past participants. Objectives: At the end of this program, the participants should be able to: FRIDAY, APRIL 27 Discuss the guidelines, diagnostic algorithm and lung function tests in the diagnosis and management of asthma in the primary care setting Describe the prevalence, etiology and current management options for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Review the clinical features, evaluation and diagnosis of melanoma and identify newer immunotherapy and targeted therapies in the management and treatment of this disease Describe the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus and discuss clinical practice guidelines to improve management in the primary care and outpatient settings Explain the assessment of elevated creatinine levels, potential etiologies, diagnosis and treatment options Identify new medication therapies which were approved by the FDA in the past 12 months and understand the role(s) of these agents in clinical practice SATURDAY, APRIL 28 Discuss typical developmental milestones from birth to age one; recognize the warning signs that could indicate a type of developmental delay and the clinical guidelines to evaluation, diagnosis and management Examine the challenges of diagnostic workup, differential diagnosis and guidelines in the evaluation and management of patients with syncope Evaluate guidelines, recommendations, improved access to HIV testing and new testing algorithms to decrease the number of individuals who present with advanced immunocompromise, enhance detection, and reduce transmission to others SATURDAY, APRIL 28: HANDS-ON SESSIONS Demonstrate injection technique for cosmetic botulinum toxin treatment Review and practice various techniques of skin closure and repairs Employ best practice guidelines for the application of intra-articular shots Demonstrate an implant placement procedure and removal instructions 2

4 Welcome From The Course Director Naureen Rafiq, MBBS The 2018 Primary Care Update focuses on ambulatory care, an area of clinical practice, characterized by wide working styles, many viewpoints, perspectives, and evolving clinical evidence. This background provides us an opportunity to create a curriculum that is up to date and addresses these difficulties. We are very fortunate to have an excellent panel of speakers who are considered experts in their fields and we sincerely hope that you will find these two days full of useful information that you can take home and apply in your everyday practice. Interactive Audience Response System We will be utilizing an Audience Response System in select educational sessions to facilitate an interactive learning experience between the speakers and program attendees.
