2 Target Audience This conference is designed for the primary care provider, nurse and other members of the multidisciplinary team that are dedicated to successful weight loss and long-term weight management of their patients. Overview This half day conference will address current issues of bariatric surgery for the Primary Care Physicians. We have found in discussions and interactions with the PCP s in our community, there is a knowledge gap regarding the surgical treatment of the morbidly obese patient. This symposium will explain the role of the psychologist, dietitian, nurses and surgeon in the treatment of the severely obese patient. Objectives Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to: Identify the rapid rise in the incidence of type II diabetes mellitus and the indications for its treatment with Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS). Describe the various bariatric surgeries, their associated risks and benefits and their long term results. Understand the physiology of weight regulation and how Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) affects this physiology to achieve weight loss. Understand the nutritional deficits that can occur after Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) and how to manage those deficiencies that do arise. Understand the psychological evaluation the patient considering Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) undergoes and the pre- and post-operative issues these patients face. Understand practical applications and discussion points to help monitor your patients after their weight loss surgery. Conference Day Includes $50 tuition fee includes conference educational credits, materials, and continental breakfast. Tuition Payment $50 Payment deadline is Friday, March 1, You will not be considered registered for the course until tuition is received. If you have registered but payment has not been received by the deadline noted above, you will be automatically cancelled from the class and receive an indicating the cancellation of your registration. Questions regarding receipts and payments call at Cancellation Policy Tuition is refundable if request is received by Friday, March 1, Notices after this date will not receive a refund. Advancement (prior to course) Submit a copy of the brochure showing price, after the class a certificate of completion should be submitted to the HR Service Center 2. Reimbursement (after course) Submit a copy of the certificate with proof of payment. Submit these forms to the HR Service Center, MR 10700; Learning & Development is unable to process these forms. 6 Accreditation Physician Allina Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Allina Health designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurse This activity has been designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education requirements for 5.10 hours of credit. However, the nurse is responsible for determining whether this activity meets the requirements for acceptable continuing education. Please Note: Continuing medical education credits (ACCME) are accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) for certification renewal if the content is applicable to the area of certification. Continuing education hours approved by the ACCME meet the ANCC-accredited continuing nursing education (CNE) criteria.
