2 Welcome to the Sanford Black Hills Pediatric Symposium This two-day conference is designed to provide an update of current or emerging pediatric health care issues. The lecture format of the conference is designed to address a nursing and care provider audience ranging from inpatient to out-of-hospital care settings The conference will focus on new and changing diagnosis and treatment technologies including the challenges and rewards of providing nursing care to pediatric patients and their families. We will feature premier speakers discussing medical and surgical related topics across the broad spectrum of pediatric specialty care. Conference Objectives This education offering will enable the pediatric healthcare provider to: Examine current issues in pediatric health care Summarize emerging best practice approaches and treatment technologies in the delivery of pediatric health care Discuss common concerns related to pediatric nursing and the care of children and families Exchange ideas and resources with other pediatric health care providers Guest Speakers: Colleen Kraft, MD Colleen A. Kraft, MD, FAAP is President-Elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She serves as the Interim Medical Director for the Complex Care Center at Cincinnati Children s Hospital. She is the past Medical Director for the Health Network by Cincinnati Children s (HNCC), an innovation lab for alternative payment models with Medicaid managed care. Dr. Kraft received her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech and her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to her arrival in Cincinnati, Dr. Kraft was a primary care pediatrician in private practice in Richmond, Virginia, and the Founding Pediatric Program Director at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Dr. Kraft was President of the Virginia Chapter of the AAP from , and was best known for working with the Legislature to improve Medicaid payment rates for pediatric services. Dr. Kraft s work in early childhood and population health seeks to translate the goals of health equity into medical practice. Andrew Gregory, MD, FAAP, FACSM Dr. Gregory completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Indiana University and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He then finished a pediatric residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham before his fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute. He joined the Vanderbilt Faculty in August 2001 where he sees young sports medicine patients in the Vanderbilt Sports Medicine Center and the Pediatric Orthopedic Clinic at Vanderbilt Children s Hospital. Kirk Hughes, MD Kirk Hughes is a Registered Nurse working as a Certified Specialist in Poison Information and Education Director for the Minnesota Poison Control System since He has been a Firefighter/EMT for the last 24 years and currently serves as a member of the City of Ramsey Fire Department and EMS training officer for Lexington Fire Department. He is recently retired from the Brooklyn Park Fire Department. Kirk also works as an Investigator for the Hennepin Medical Examiner s Office. He is a certified Advanced Hazmat Life Support Instructor, Hazmat Technician, and certified in Advanced Medical Life Support. He has been published in multiple publications including; The Journal of Perinatology and The Journal of Clinical Toxicology. Linda Fromm, MD Dr. Fromm attended Sanford School of Medicine graduating in She completed her residency in dermatology at SUNY Buffalo. Dr. Fromm is in private practice with her husband (Ted Fromm ophthalmology) in Rapid City. 1

The elegant Queen Anne-style house heralded a wealthy and socially prominent new age for Deadwood, a former rough and tumble gold mining town. Deadwood s Adams Museum is considered the Black Hills oldest history museum.
