2 16th Annual Community Response GUEST SPEAKERS: Carole James Ms. James has a Bachelor s degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Northern State University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. Ms. James began practicing criminal law in 2006 after being admitted to the South Dakota State Bar. Ms. James has been prosecuting juveniles in Minnehaha County since Ms. James has been active in various committees and organizations in Minnehaha County as they relate to juvenile prosecution and she has also been active on multiple work groups related to the implementation of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative in Minnehaha County. Ms. James is married and has a daughter approximately 16 months old. Jacqueline Page, Psy.D. Dr. Page is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Her specialty areas include: adolescents who have engaged in sexually abusive behavior, children with sexual behavior problems, victims of sexual abuse and juvenile justice. Dr. Page served on the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers Executive Board for six years, is co-chair of the adolescent guidelines committee and is an appointed member of the Tennessee Joint Task Force for Children s Justice. She has published in the field and is an experienced presenter at a state, regional, national and international level. Dr. Page s main focus at this time is assisting the Tennessee Department of Children s Services in developing and implementing best practices for adolescents who have engaged in sexually abusive behavior and children with sexual behavioral problems.

3 DISCOVER. INSPIRE. GROW. Lisa Stellinga Ms. Stellinga is a master s level therapist whose counseling agency is located in Sioux Falls, SD. She earned her Master s degree from South Dakota State University in Counseling & Human Resource Development, and her Bachelor s degree from the University of South Dakota in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies. She s worked in related fields for more than 30 years including outpatient and home-based therapy, hospitals, alcohol and drug treatment centers, group homes and schools. Currently, Ms. Stellinga works with adults struggling with depression/anxiety and insomnia, and with children and families involved in the post-adoption process. She is passionate about educating anyone who will listen about attachment and trauma issues as she is committed to offering hope. She speaks to parent organizations, churches, mental health and medical professionals. She uses metaphors and stories to help the listener absorb the material presented and she will help you understand how healing has been found in many with whom she has worked! Kevin M. Mulcahy Kevin is a survivor of child sexual abuse. He works as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Detroit and serves as the Executive Assistant United States Attorney. Throughout his career, Kevin has prosecuted a variety of cases, including offenses involving firearms, drugs, bank robberies, threats, and a wide variety of other federal prosecutions. But most of his caseload focuses on child exploitation crimes, including production of child pornography cases, traveler cases, and other significant crimes against children prosecutions. Kevin has been a prosecutor since 2002, all on the federal level, with the first 3 ½ years as an Assistant United States Attorney in San Diego, and the rest in Detroit. Kevin obtained his undergraduate degree in Statistics and American Culture from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara School of Law. He has 3 kids, 2 cats, 1 dog and a very nice wife.

Target Audience Child abuse professionals involved in the identification, investigation, prosecution or treatment of children who may be victims of child abuse and neglect will benefit from this conference. Target audience includes: social workers, law enforcement, attorneys, judges, victim advocates, counselors, CASA volunteers, first responders, health professionals, medical, nursing, students, daycare providers, teachers, foster parents, and others interested in the field of child abuse and neglect. Statement of Need The National Children s Alliance recommends that child abuse professionals receive continuing education on the latest trends and research in child abuse annually. Child s Voice and Child Advocacy Centers of South Dakota are committed to best practice in the evaluation of children who may be victims of child abuse and neglect. The conference agenda was chosen based on feedback from prior attendees and the multidisciplinary team members.
