2 COURSE DESCRIPTION Pediatric Emergency providers and Pediatric Radiologists are frequent partners in patient care. This conference is designed to highlight common and emerging diagnostic dilemmas. We hope that fostering a dialogue between our specialties will enhance the care of children in our region. TARGET AUDIENCE Pediatricians, Family Practitioners, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Residents, Nurses, Paramedics, and Emergency Medical Technicians COURSE OBJECTIVES Explore how to diagnose shunt malfunction in a variety of different shunts. Present common and uncommon manifestations of child abuse in medical imaging. Explain the imaging assessment used for pediatric arterial ischemic stroke. Examine the role of CT in pediatric abdominal trauma. Outline pediatric radiologic studies commonly ordered in the emergency department based on latest evidence in literature. Objectives for afternoon breakout sessions include: Describe recommended radiographic imaging for common sports injuries. Determine when imaging is and isn t necessary in the athlete with head injury. Discuss current imaging modalities that augment the management of common foreign body ingestions/aspirations. Identify the best use of ultrasound in the pediatric emergency department by using hands on experience. Demonstrate the evaluation and management of an infant presenting with irritability. Discuss plain film radiographic finding of traumatic and non-traumatic pediatric emergencies.
