This is a public health and ethical issue because medical errors can result in unnecessary deaths, injuries, and expenses. As medical knowledge and technology continue to improve at a rapid pace, it is important that all healthcare providers continue to improve their quality-of-care and keep patient safety at the forefront. As a leader in quality and safety, is uniquely positioned to begin the regional conversation regarding quality improvement strategies for all learners. This year s conference seeks to educate learners on care coordination, health information technology to reduce errors, professionalism to improve patient safety, quality improvement in an ambulatory setting and ethical concerns with quality improvement projects. TARGET AUDIENCE Health professionals and students within the Texas Medical Center and Houston region. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to: Identify diseases that may benefit from care coordination Implement health information technology to reduce errors Apply methods to reduce unprofessional behavior to improve patient safety Implement quality improvement in an ambulatory setting Identify ethical concerns with quality improvement projects EDUCATIONAL METHODS Lecture Question and Answer Session Small Group Breakout Sessions Poster Session EVALUATION Evaluation by online questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias. ACCREDITATION/CREDIT DESIGNATION Physician AMA PRA Category 1 Credit This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
3 designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The ethics presentation, Ethical Concerns with Quality Improvement Projects, has been designated by Baylor College of Medicine for 0.50 credit of education in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility. The ethics presentation, Professionalism and Its Impact on Patient Safety, has been designated by for 0.50 credit of education in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility. ABIM MOC Points Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 1.00 MOC point in the American Board of Internal Medicine s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points. Nurse Texas Children s Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association - Approver, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. DISCLOSURE In order to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education it is the policy of Baylor College of Medicine that all individuals who are in a position to control the content of a CME course (course director, planning committee members, and faculty) disclose relevant financial relationships with commercial interests. All identified conflicts of interest are managed to help ensure that the educational material is scientifically based, accurate, and objectively presented. Specific disclosure will be made to the participants prior to the educational course. Audio or videotaping is prohibited without written permission from the Activity Director and the Office of Continuing Medical Education,, Houston, Texas. Faculty, topics, program schedule, and credits are subject to change. FEES, REGISTRATION, AND CONFIRMATION INFORMATION There is no registration fee to attend. Your registration will be confirmed. If you have not received confirmation at least five business days before the activity start date, contact the Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) immediately. If you plan to register on-site, contact OCME at least 24 hours in advance to confirm activity status and space availability. The OCME reserves the right to limit the number of participants in an activity and will not be responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available. CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY The OCME reserves the right to cancel activities, not less than 10 business days before the scheduled date, if extenuating circumstances make it necessary. Registrants will be notified at the contact number indicated on the registration form, followed by written notification. If an activity is cancelled, OCME s liability is limited to the registration fee paid. Note: If payment is made by check, a social security number is required to process the refund. Call for Abstracts The 5 th Annual Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Conference will offer all health professionals and students interested in quality and safety an opportunity to present their ideas in an interactive forum. The conference will highlight a peer-reviewed selection of quality and safety research projects and program innovations. We encourage all types of submissions involving quality and safety, which may include quality improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, educational innovations, or similar topics. Deadline Deadline for abstract submission is Friday, February 16, 2018 at 5:00PM CST. Submission Use the following link to submit abstracts online: Peer Review Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and accepted abstracts will be chosen for poster presentation. Additionally, the top two abstracts will give a 10 minute oral presentation at the conference. Registration Presenters are expected to register for the conference. You will be notified once online registration opens. There is no fee to register. Poster Session The poster session will take place on Thursday, April 26 from 7:00-8:00PM in Onstead Auditorium Foyer.
