The mission is to improve the quality of life in Collier County by connecting donors to community needs and providing leadership on critical community issues. Background The Community Foundation of Collier County is a 501(c)3 public charity. The mission is to improve the quality of life in Collier County by connecting donors to community needs and providing leadership on critical community issues. The Community Foundation was incorporated in 1985 by local visionaries who believed that a community foundation in Naples, like foundations in other cities across the country, could help charitableminded people create legacies for the immediate and future needs of the area. Their dedicated efforts in the early years of the Foundation ensured a perpetual source of income to meet the ever-changing needs of Collier County. The Foundation's first grants, awarded in 1986, included seed money for a new agency The Shelter for Abused Women and support for construction of the band shell in Cambier Park. By 1987, assets increased to $975,000 and 21 nonprofits were awarded grants, among them funds for a recycling project at the Conservancy. Today, with generous community support, the Community Foundation oversees more than 600 funds, manages more than $170 million in assets, and has distributed nearly $130 million in grants to local nonprofits and beyond. The Foundation has successfully led multiple community initiatives and is considered the go-to" resource for information on nonprofits serving Collier County and the Vital Signs (indicators) of community need. Needs 1. Endowment Building - helping nonprofits and their Board members understand the value of planned giving and endowment building in securing their long-term financial sustainability. 2. Funds for Grantmaking - there is a need to build the Community Endowment to allow the Foundation to determine and support the community's most pressing need.3. Transfer of Wealth - There is a potential to capture 5% of the transfer of wealth happening over the next ten years. In Collier County, the funds would yield $35 million dollars each year for local grants. 7 Impact Goals What are your organization's long-term strategic goals? The Community Foundation of Collier County (CFCC) has four ultimate goals: 1. Leverage CFCC's influence and resources to grow assets. 2. Provide grants to meet high priority community needs. 3. Gather, use and broadly share knowledge about the community and its needs. 4. Educate donors and the community about the needs in Collier County. Strategies What are the major strategies you will do to accomplish your goals? Four broad strategies are based on the Foundation's major goals: 1. Fully engage with CFCC's donors to understand their needs and interests, to influence and be influenced by their interests, and to increase their total giving. 2. Undertake a specific, focused and sustained plan to strategically reach out to professional advisors who support planned giving. 3. Align CFCC's grantmaking programs to strategically impact highest priority community needs according to the most recent Community Needs Assessment. 4. Improve marketing and communication efforts to attract donors who will create endowed funds. The transfer of wealth in the U.S. by 2052 is expected to be $1.4 trillion dollars. In Florida, it is expected that $322 billion will change hands by In Collier County, it is expected that $14.7 billion will change hands by If $734 million of the transfer (approx 5%) was endowed, $34 million would be available each year for community improvements - forever. In order to capitalize on this transfer, the Foundation must engage donors in community issues and involve professional advisors - estate planners, attorneys, financial planners and accountants who work with charitable individuals - in the work of the Community Foundation. Donors with advised funds will be introduced to hundreds of nonprofits serving Collier County in a variety of ways, such as donor briefings on issues, site visits and through their introduction to Vital Signs - collected by the Community Foundation to measure the impact of its grantmaking. Highest priority needs are evaluated annually. Donors are encouraged to create unrestricted or field of interest funds to address local needs. Capabilities What are your organization s capabilities for doing this? The Community Foundation of Collier County has 33 years of experience serving as a public charity in Collier County. It currently holds $170 million dollars and manages more than 600 philanthropic funds, including 90 local Agency Endowment Funds. The Foundation has granted $130 million to nonprofits from its funds including approx.12 million in FY18 alone. Approximately 50 percent or $6m of those dollars were granted to Collier County nonprofits from donor funds, unrestricted grants and scholarships. The Foundation also launched multiple initiatives during past 33 years and engaged thousands of donors in supporting community issues. Indicators What indicators do you use to measure progress? The Community Foundation of Collier County communicates the results of its grantmaking to its donors, financial advisors, and the philanthropic community. We measure our success by the amount of grantgenerating assets we raise each year, the number of donors that create named Funds and the impact we have on the organizations that we serve in Collier County and the impact of our grantmaking reported to us by nonprofit grantees. Our goal to reach $250 million in assets by 2020, increase grant dollars to nonprofits serving Collier County and provide leadership on community issues. Our impact on the community nonprofits we serve is measured by their responses to annual nonprofit surveys and outcomes reported from grants awarded. As assets grow, the potential grant and scholarship dollars from new funds will allow the Foundation to have even more impact in Collier County. The Foundation provides donors and the community with Vital Signs, or indicators of community need that are updated each year. The needs are updated each year and the impact of grants on the Top Ten Vital Signs are measured. They include: 1. Access to mental health services; 2. 7

8 Programs to help close the achievement gap for Collier County's diverse students; 3. Increased nonprofit capacity, leadership and collaboration; 4. Access to early childhood programs; 8. Programs to increase students' access to college and workforce training; 9. Prevention of teen births to girls 18 and under. 10. Access to senior services and social networks. Progress What have and haven t you accomplished so far? For the past 33 years, the Community Foundation of Collier County has grown as a philanthropic resource for donors and nonprofits in our community. In 2016, the Foundation's board launched a new strategic plan which sharply focused its efforts on building a community endowment and providing grants and leadership that help solve community problems and improve life in Collier County. The goal is to reach $250,000 million in assets in three years. As of June 1, 2016, assets have reached more than $170,000 million and the number of new Funds have grown by 10%. Approx. $12 million in grants were made during FY More than 90 nonprofit agencies have established endowment funds at the Community Foundation, further ensuring their long-term sustainability. The Foundation wants to continue to build endowed funds for donors and nonprofits and encourage donors to become more involved in community issues. By building on our past success, we will continue to increase grants to community organizations and improve the life of residents of Collier County. 8
