Social Services Assistance Carol Tudino is a trained SHIP councilor (State Health Insurance Program). The goal of SHIP is to provide seniors with access to accurate, unbiased health insurance information, counseling and assistance free of charge. Carol is available throughout the year for anyone turning 65 who needs to choose a Medicare Part B insurance supplement or advantage plan. She is also available during Medicare Part D open enrollment until December 7th to review your current insurance plan and look at available options. Appointments are required; please contact Carol. Friday Movie We will show a free movie at Swift on Friday, November 3rd at 1:00 p.m. Reservations are not required. Please contact Erin the week of October 30th for the title of the movie. December Holiday Luncheon Tickets will go on sale at Swift on Thursday, November 16th and will be on sale through Wednesday, December 6th or until they are sold out. The meal will be served at Swift on Thursday, December 14th at noon. Tickets are a suggested $3 donation and must be purchased at Swift. Please help us Go Green by joining the Newsletter List! All Nurse Clinics include blood pressure and heart rate checks: Amy Craig from WellOne in North Kingstown will not visit this month. She will be at Swift on Friday, December 1st from 10:00-11:45 a.m. Reginald Wilcox, Director of Admissions for South County Nursing and Rehabilitation, will be at Swift on Thursday, November 9th from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Rhonda Brunnero, a registered nurse with Visiting Nurses Services of Home Health Services, will be at Swift on Tuesday, November 21st from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Tests for blood sugar are available for $1. Cholesterol tests are available for $5. Dana Tessier, a registered nurse with Bayada Home Health Care, will be at Swift on Wednesday, November 29th from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Holiday Prepared Meals If you and your spouse are 55 and older or disabled East Greenwich residents, and will be alone for the holidays, Senior Services will provide a prepared meal with all the trimmings. The deadline to register for a Thanksgiving meal is Wednesday, November 8th. The meal will be delivered to your residence on Wednesday, November 22nd. The deadline to register for a December holiday meal is Wednesday, December 6th. The meal will be delivered to your residence on Thursday, December 21st. Both the November and December meals will include a dinner roll, garden salad, turkey with gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert. To register for a meal, please contact Carol Tudino at or ctudino@eastgreenwichri.com. The Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN) is working with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to provide a free program to assist older adults who may be experiencing Medicaid or Medicare issues, especially those who have Neighborhood INTEGRITY. The program is called the RIPIN Healthcare Advocate. All of RIPIN s programs are free and confidential. Representatives will offer a free presentation at Swift on Wednesday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m. Preregistration is required. NEW PROGRAM! A Caregiver Support and Resource Group will be offered at Swift on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:00 11:00 a.m. The November date is the 8th. The group will be facilitated by Carly Hague, Program Director, Cornerstone Adult Services. This monthly meeting is an opportunity to discuss caregiving needs, and/or to obtain resource information to help meet needs. Participants can attend monthly or as needed. There will be time for questions about resources for senior care in Rhode Island and for discussion. Pre-registration is not required. A Free Oral Health Information and Training Session will be offered at Swift on Wednesday, November 8th at 1:00 p.m. This presentation is designed for caregivers of older adults and/or someone with special needs. Kathleen Stack from the Rhode Island Department of Health will provide training in how best to accomplish daily mouth care for those you care for. The program will contain demonstrations as well as a question and answer period. Participants will receive free dental products! Pre-registration is required. A representative from ClearCaptions will offer a free presentation and serve pie with hot chocolate at Swift on Wednesday, November 15th at 1 p.m. ClearCaptions is an FCC-certified telephone captioning provider that helps millions of people with hearing loss stay connected with the world. Take Control of Your Joint Pain Take the first step towards understanding your joint pain as local orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Barrett answers your questions and discusses arthritis of the hip and knee as well as non-surgical and surgical alternatives. Dr. Bartlett will offer a free presentation at Swift on Wednesday, November 29th at 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Maxine Hutchins from The Seasons is offering a FREE Candy Cane Wreath Workshop at Swift on Thursday, November 30th at 10:00 a.m. All materials will be supplied. Make a wreath for yourself or to give as a present. Pre-registration is required. Limit of 10 participants.

3 East Greenwich Senior Newsletter November 2017 New Medicare Card Scam Alert Medicare recipients will receive a new Medicare card in the mail between April 2018 and April Your new Medicare card will NOT have your Social Security number. This will help protect your identity. Please understand that mailing everyone a new card will take time. Your card might arrive at a different time than your friend's or neighbor's. You do not need to do anything. Your new card will be mailed automatically. If someone calls you and says they need to confirm your identity or your Medicare number, it is a SCAM. If you receive a call from someone and you are just not sure, please hang up and call the RI Senior Medicare Patrol at (401) to report the call. Help is always free and confidential. Never give your information to anyone who calls you on the phone or comes to your door! The Rhode Island Special Needs Emergency Registry is a system for the identification of Rhode Islanders who may require assistance during emergencies. Examples of people who may register include those with chronic conditions, disabilities and other special healthcare needs. If you would like your name added to the State s registry, please contact Erin or you can go online to complete the form at Notary Public Services Available Erin McAndrew, Senior Services Director, is a Notary Public. If you need any documents notarized, she is available to assist you. Please bring a photo I.D. along with the unsigned document you need to have notarized. Please contact Erin to make an appointment or for more information about notary services. Coming in December - Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Presentation Susan Hammond from Tru-Care Physical Therapy in East Greenwich will be at Swift on Wednesday, December 13th at 1:00 p.m. for a free presentation on shoulder and rotator cuff pain and options. Pre-registration is required. TRIPS: The Senior and Human Services bus is accessible to East Greenwich residents ages 55 and over and residents with disabilities. The bus lift will accommodate persons using wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, braces, etc. or who otherwise have difficulty using steps. The bus will pick up and drop off East Greenwich residents at their residence. Non-residents can meet the bus at the Swift Community Center. Passengers are required to have a completed application form on file. Please contact Melaine Potrzeba at , ext. 3 for an application or to make a transportation reservation. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. Bus fees are $10 for one month unlimited use or $2 per trip. Special day trips may not be included with the monthly bus pass. Wednesdays; November 1st, 8th & 29th: Shopping from 1:00 to approximately 3:00 p.m. The bus begins picking up passengers at 1:00 p.m. and takes them to the following destinations: 1st Stop: Stop & Shop Plaza on Frenchtown Road in North Kingstown 2nd Stop: T.J. Maxx Plaza on Post Road in North Kingstown 3rd Stop: Dave s Market Plaza in Quonset, North Kingstown Passengers choose the plaza they would like to visit, but it is not possible to visit multiple plazas. Passengers will have approximately one hour and 30 minutes at the Stop & Shop Plaza, one hour and 20 minutes at the T.J. Maxx Plaza and one hour and 15 minutes at the Dave s Market Plaza. Friday Retail Shopping Trips: Pick up begins at 9:00 a.m. November 3rd: Wrentham Outlets and lunch on own November 10th: Coventry Walmart and Denny s on own November 17th: Rhode Island Mall and Wendy s on own November 24th: Closed, enjoy the holiday!

5 NOVEMBER 2017: PROGRAMS * * * SPECIAL TRIP! * * * Reservations for a trip to Blithewold Mansion on December 13th are currently being accepted. The fee for a 45 minute guided tour of the Bristol property and afternoon tea is $40 p/p. The bus will leave Swift at 9 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m. Payment for the trip is due by Nov. 15th. A refund will not be given unless the seat can be filled. To register, please call Class Fees: M=Member / NM=Non-Member The membership fee is $5 p/yr Please note: You should always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. All fitness program participants must sign a Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk Agreement prior to their first class. Forms are available at the Swift Community Center, Monday - Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Fitness participants must wear sneakers to exercise classes. Sneakers should have closed toes, nonslip soles, a backing and laces. Participants should wear breathable, loose fitting clothing and bring water to class. Mondays The Choral Group Join volunteer leader Gen Meegan on Mondays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the dining room. No experience necessary. Bingo! 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the gym. A set of bingo cards is $3. A bingo marker is $2. Mondays continued Sit to be Fit Exercise 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the dining room. With the stability of a chair, you can perform exercises for range of motion, balance and strength. This class is taught by YMCA instructor Susanna Bodell. Tuesdays Scrabble Club 9:30 a.m. in the game room. Please join fellow wordsmiths for some fun! Stretch and Tone 10:15-11:00 a.m. in the dining room. Exercises help maintain muscle strength, stamina and balance using weights. Weights are provided. Instructor: Jill Saint. Beginner Country Western Line Dancing 12:15-12:45 p.m. in the gym. Participants will learn basic Line Dancing steps in these walk through instructional classes. YMCA veteran instructor Jackie Willsie ($1 M / $2 NM) Country Western Line Dancing Class 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the gym. If you enjoy line dancing, you ll love this class taught by YMCA veteran instructor, Jackie Willsie. Wednesdays Yoga YMCA instructor Maria Saillant teaches Yoga from 8:45-10:00 a.m. in the dining room. Yoga can improve your health through relaxation and breathing techniques, relieve stress and improve flexibility. All levels are welcome. Participants supply their own mat. Wednesdays continued Art Class Drawing and Painting from 10:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the dining room. Join this great group of artists led by Jeannine Anderson. All levels of skill are welcome. Participants supply their own materials. Seating space is limited. Hi Lo Jack Tournament 1:00-3:00 p.m. The next 15 week session will begin this month. Participants must know how to play and have experience playing by league tournament rules. The fee is $5 p/person. Pre-registration is required, please contact Carol at or ctudino@eastgreenwichri.com. Thursdays Zumba A Latin music dance class from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the gym. Taught by YMCA instructor Jackie Willsie Fridays Cribbage 9:00 a.m. in the game room. Participants must have a basic knowledge of the game. Circuit Fitness 11:00-11:45 a.m. in the gym. Low impact exercises mixed with upper body and lower body strength training. A chair can be used for added stability. Instructor: Michelle Anderson. Canasta 12:45 p.m. in the game room. Participants must have a basic knowledge of the game.
