1 APRIL 23, 2018 Tell us something good T.J. REGIONAL HEALTH HOSTS GLASGOW BARREN COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE QUARTERLY BREAKFAST T.J. Regional Health proudly hosted the Quarterly Chamber Breakfast last Friday morning at the T.J. Health Pavilion Community Center. More than 200 local community business leaders attended. The event highlighted two major accomplishments that our T.J. Oncology Department has recently achieved - the UK Markey Cancer Center Network affiliation and the Commission on Cancer Accreditation. Several guests from UK Markey Cancer Center attended the breakfast, including Dr. Timothy Mullett, who spoke to the group of Chamber members. Special thanks to the T.J. Dietary team for their delicious food and beautiful set-up. We also want to thank each T.J. employee who helped make this event possible. Chamber members were very complimentary of this event. Great job, T.J. team!

3 EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY ATTENTION ALL TJ REGIONAL HEALTH EMPLOYEES: Build A Bed Donation Natalie Compton, Pavilion MOB Administrative Assistant, and her granddaughter, Jozalin, recently made and donated this beautiful quilt to the Build A Bed program. Thank you, Natalie and Jozalin, for using your talents to make such a beautiful quilt for a child in need in our area. Great job! Once again the TJRH Employee Engagement Survey is upon us. Our survey will be conducted from April 23 May 7th. This survey is an important tool for communicating within our organization and a way each employee s voice to be measured individually and confidentially. We had an amazing year in 2017 largely due to your responses and feedback from last year s survey. This survey is intended for all TJRH employees, physicians, and nurse practitioners. Press Ganey is conducting our survey this year. Your responses are very confidential. The survey link was sent through your this morning, April 23rd. Please click the link and complete the survey. Your thoughts and opinions are extremely important to the leadership at TJRH and your participation is greatly encouraged and appreciated. As always, THANK YOU for all that you do to provide for our patients, our customers and each other. Sincerely, Bud Wethington

4 OPENS IN 2 WEEKS! Children's Day Celebration Dr. Bharat Mody presented an award to Bud Wethington, on behalf of T.J. Samson Community Hospital, in thanks for the organization's partnership with the Children's Day program. T.J. Samson is honored to be a partner for this outstanding project. The owners of Garcia's will soon be opening their new restaurant, Dego's Place, located near the T.J. Health Pavilion in the former Plum Yum space. Dego's Place will also house a butcher shop which will open in approximately five weeks.

5 Label Reading Week 4: Clearing the Confusion on Nutrition Labels Don t get overwhelmed by all you see on the nutrition label. Focus on a few simple tips and be aware that individual foods require different guidelines. Sugar. Ideally, less than 5 grams/serving. Less is always better. Ingredients. Look for a short list and ingredients you recognize. Minimal or no additives or chemicals (the things you cannot pronounce and don't know what they are). Sodium. Choose items with less than 250 mg/serving. Less is always better. Fiber. Food with at least 3 grams/serving is optimal. More is better. Calories, fat, carbs, and protein. These are each unique to individual foods. For example, nut butters are high in fat, though it is a healthy type of fat. While technically a high fat food, you still want nuts/nut butters included in your diet. Meat has no carbohydrates and is high in protein, while its fat content varies. Choose leaner meats as these have less unhealthy fats. Digging Deeper Click here for an in-depth look at each component on the nutrition facts label. Healthy Recipe Try this southwest breakfast burrito for a high fiber, high protein breakfast option.
