Do you know a School Nurse who demonstrates outstanding efforts in promoting the health of school children in your community and contributes to the excellence of school nursing practice? Would you like to recognize a School Nurse who utilizes commendable nursing skills according to the Scope and Standards of Professional School Nursing and freely shares this nursing passion with others? Many School Nurses go above and beyond the expectations of the job and go that extra mile to provide services to their students, staff, and communities. Please consider nominating a School Nurse for the Overseas School Health Nurses Association s highest honor: School Nurse of the Year! This is your chance to highlight a School Nurse s professionalism and share what he/she does for students, faculty and community by submitting a letter of recommendation. What makes a great school nurse? High expectations for themselves and our students, the ability to actively listen, energy to go the extra mile, knowing when, where and from whom to seek assistance and offering creative problem solving. If this sounds like a School Nurse that you know, start the nomination letter now! Send your Letters of Recommendation to Selection Committee Chair, Pam Parker: pam.parker@eu.dodea.edu.
3 HEAD LICE ALERT AEIS has confirmed a few cases of head lice. If a student in your child s class has lice, you will be informed. As a precautionary measure please watch your child for itchy scalp. Check your child s head daily for the presence of lice and/or eggs. It is especially important to look at the scalp, back of the ears and back of the neck. Head lice are elongated insects approximately 1/8inch in length. The eggs, commonly called nits, are teardrop in shape, very small and vary in color from off-white to yellowish brown. The nits are attached to the hair shaft close to the scalp with a waterproof, cement-like substance. These nits cannot be washed or brushed off like dandruff or debris. Lice can be transmitted by direct contact with an infected person or by use of the personal belongings of the infected person such as combs, hats, jackets, etc. If you notice any lice or nits on your child, please contact the School Nurse or take your child to a local medical facility for treatment. -Diane Stebbins, RN, AEIS Nurse, Are you missing something?.. The AEIS Lost & Found might be the place to l k! Unclaimed items will be donated after December 18th
